- the guidewire is further provided with a soft, flexible tip that is semi-circularly bent back to avoid perforation of the inner vessel wall along the way to the desired end position. After reaching the desired end position of the guide wire this is fixed and the vessel cannula removed. Following this, a hollow-cylindrical catheter can be introduced into the (blood) vessel by threading on the vessel-distal end and advanced along the guide wire. The guide wire is located in the interior of the hollow cylindrical catheter. The catheter is advanced along the guidewire until it reaches the desired end position. The guide wire is then removed from the interior of the catheter.
