- calcium hydroxide is used to safely treat industrial waste, and since direct landfill of acidic industrial waste can cause fatal environmental disasters by contaminating the soil, calcium hydroxide is used as a neutralizing agent in the treatment process of large amounts of waste acid generated in steelmaking and metal refining processes. Recently, it has been used as a neutralizing agent in high-concentration acidic waste water containing phosphoric acid ( H3PO4 ) or hydrofluoric acid (HF) in the treatment of semiconductor process waste water.
