Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Quellungsmittel für Zelluloid (britische Patentschrift Nr. 22662 A. D. 1901).

  Process for the production of rubber compounds.

   So far, the esters of adipic acid have been used as plasticizers or swelling agents for celluloid (British patent specification No. 22662 A. D. 1901). It has now been found that the esters of adipic acid and its derivatives, such as adipic acid methyl cyelohexyl ester (boiling point 226-232 C), methyl adipic acid methyl eyclohexyl ester (boiling point 216-224 C), methyl adipine isopropyl acid ester, etc., are excellent chewing plasticizers. The mixtures with it vulcanize well and after vulcanization give good, hard vulcanizates.

   Mixtures of this kind plasticized with the esters mentioned take up large amounts of rubber filler in a very short time, in particular American gas black, which is otherwise difficult to mix in, which is why they are particularly suitable for tire compounds. Sponge rubber mixtures and foam rubber mixtures are made so soft by the addition of the esters mentioned that the slightest pore formation takes place during vulcanization.
