Die angestrebte Wirkung kann durch Veränderung der angewendeten Temperatur, beispielsweise zwischen 80-140 C und der Säuremengen geregelt werden. Es sind zahlreiche Säuren für den angegebenen Zweck geeignet. Nur beispielsweise seien genannt : Schwefelsäure, Salzsäure, Essigsäure und Trichloressigsäure. Die Säuremenge kann sieh beispielsweise zwischen 1 g und 5 g pro Liter bewegen, wobei man einen Teil der zugesetzten Säure nachträglich durch Zugabe eines Alkalis neutralisieren kann.
