Im Elektroofen kann entweder mit höher legiertem Schrott oder auch mit Zusätzen von Legierungsmetallen gearbeitet werden.
Man kann nun entweder so verfahren, dass zur Entschwefelung und Desoxydation beide Stähle zusammengegossen und mit einer hoch reaktionsfähigen Schlacke innigst durchwirbelt werden oder dass die Schlacke zunächst nur mit einem der beiden Stähle und erst anschliessend durch Hinzugiessen des andern Stahles auch mit diesem reagiert.
Das Zusammengiessen der beiden Stähle und der Schlacke kann sowohl in einer Pfanne als auch in einem Ofen geschehen.
