Impregnation compound for fiber sheaths for electrical conductors.
It is already known to impregnate the fibrous materials with which electrical conductors are coated to protect them against external influences with a mixture of linseed oil or varnish with a metal oxide in order to cement the fibrous materials together in this way.
The metal oxides that have hitherto been used for this purpose are partly toxic, partly very expensive and partly of large specific weights. The present invention now aims to provide an impregnation compound which does not adhere to these defects.
According to the invention, the impregnation compound is formed by mixing linseed oil or linseed oil with iron oxide and zinc oxide or with iron oxide and zinc sulphide.
In order to keep this impregnation compound soft for a long time so that it does not break when the wire is bent, you can add materials to it that delay the drying of the linseed oil, such as. B. Barite. If it appears to be desirable to increase the diameter of the conductor wire noticeably by attaching the sheathing, then an indifferent body in powder form, preferably carbon powder, is added to the impregnation compound.
