Es wurde gefunden, dass Schwefelsäure und Oleum Phosgen in grosser Menge zu lösen vermögen. Wenn das Oleum genügende Mengen von Schwefeltrioxyd enthält, tritt eine Zerlegung des Phosgens ein und es bildet sich Chlorsulfonsäure, welche durch Destillation von der übrigbleibenden Schwefelsäure getrennt werden kann.

It has been found that sulfuric acid and oleum are able to dissolve phosgene in large quantities. If the oleum contains sufficient quantities of sulfur trioxide, the phosgene decomposes and chlorosulfonic acid is formed, which can be separated from the remaining sulfuric acid by distillation.
