<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
En un point quelconque du réseau,iitué de préférence dans le voisinage du clapet de retenue,la conduite i mène à un régu- lateur de pression à membrane,qui ouvre ou ferme le registre c par l'intermédiaire du tiroir de distribution 1 et du moteur m à pression d'huile. lorsque la quantité d'air diminue c'est à di re lorsque la pression de l'air augmente (parcours D-E dans la fig. 2) la pression augmente également sous la membrane k celle- ci se soulève en surmontant la tension du ressort n et ferme, à l'aide du moteur à pression d'huile l,m,le registre c,de dernier ne peut toutefois exécuter le mouvement de fermeture que jusqu'à ce que la membrane k vienne se placer contre la butée p.ajustable au moyen du volant c;
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

Control method for centrifugal compressors.
It is known that in centrifugal compressors the final pressure at which the liquid or fluid to be compressed is sent into the tube bundle increases as the quantity of fluid decreases, provided that the number of revolutions of the prime mover is constant. If we set the final pressure P as a function of the efficiency v, we obtain, according to the number of turns, for example one of the curves! Shown in fig. 1 (characteristics or curves of pressure and volume), curve '1 corresponding to a small number of turns, and curve 2 to a high number of turns. However, it is generally advantageous to keep the compressor flow pressure constant for all loads.
As a result, the machine is fitted with a pressure regulator (piston, membrane or equivalent) of the pressure in the bundle or tubular network; which, when the flow rate decreases, reduces the number of revolutions of the driving machine or, if the The driving machine can only turn a constant number of revolutions, reducing the passage section of the suction line, so that the flow pressure always remains at the desired value. The final pressure then corresponds to line AB in fig. l, which rises slightly when V says
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
bare, in a manner corresponding to the small degree of irregularity necessary to perform the adjustment operation.
It is further known that in all centrifugal compressors, when the flow rate decreases below a certain amount depending on the number of revolutions, a phenomenon referred to as "pumping" occurs which has the effect of subjecting the fluid. discharged as a result of currents in opposite directions, with harmful oscillations. In fig. 1, the L curve referred to as the "Pumping" limit brings together all the points of the various characteristics at which the phenomenon in question occurs.
To avoid this "pumping" phenomenon at low flow rates, an automatic check valve is often fitted in the pressure line behind the compressor, and in addition a device is provided which, when the pumping limit is reached, separates the network from the compressor, which then delivers to the open air by a blower valve, or which, according to another proposal, continues to run empty, while at the same time by a small opening or a by-pass of the check valve, a certain quantity of the previously discharged fluid returns to the compressor.
When this switch-off device is activated, the cost-rated air required for the consumption devices is taken from the existing supply in the network, so that the network pressure decreases little to pwu until a certain limit. once this limit is reached, the check valve is opened again so that the compressor resumes its normal flow, and this at a certain distance from the "pumping" limit and again fills the network until this limit of "pumping" is reached again. the cycle which has just been described is then repeated. This intermittent work of the compressor makes it possible to work, even for low flow rates, above the "pumping" limit, that is to say that there is no need to go beyond point A of FIG. 1.
However, the cooperation of this device for preventing pumping, and the device named first, for keeping the flow pressure constant, has a drawback.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
which consists in that the latter device, when the flow of the compressor is interrupted and the pressure decreases in the same sequence in the network, has a tendency to bring the pressure of the network as quickly as possible to its normal value.
As a result, the opening and closing of the check valve would succeed each other for small flow rates, in a permanent manner at relatively short intervals. The object of the invention is a device having the object of preventing the device serving to prevent pumping from operating too often. for this purpose, the invention proposes to carry out the adjustment in such a way that for flow rates ranging from the maximum flow rate to a flow rate close to the "pumping" limit, the pressure behind the compressor is kept constant or more or less constant. and that then, if the quantity delivered further decreases, one works with an increase in pressure, according to a characteristic (resulting curve of pressure and volume).
The use of this adjustment method will have the effect, as can be seen in FIG. 2 to keep the final air pressure constant, with a small pressure drop z, only up to a limit DE n, not quite reaching the "pumping" limit, while the compressor is working, in the vicinity "of the" pumping "limit, according to a characteristic CD passing through point 1
The regulation shown in fig. 2 by the diagram C-D-E can be carried out in two ways, depending on whether it is a constant number of revolutions training, or a variable number of revolutions.
In the first case, which occurs in particular when the drive is done by three-phase motors, action is taken, through the aforementioned pressure member, within the limits of the ED line, on the register of the pipe. suction, in the sense of a reduction of the passage section, while from point D its action ceases and the section of the suction pipe remains constant. In the second case, which occurs for example in the case of control by a vae turbine
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
fear, we act by the regulator, at the limit e- on the admission member of the steam turbine, and consequently on the number of revolutions, while from point D this action ceases, and the number of revolutions is kept constant.
Fig. 3 represents an example of the first case and figure 4 an example of the second case
In fig. 3, a denotes a centrifugal compressor with a variable number of revolutions drive, ie by a synchronous motor, for example, the suction line b of which is provided with a register c. The pressure line e, connected at d, contains a check valve f. By the by-pass g, provided with an nozzle h, when the check valve f is closed, part of the delivered fluid is returned to prevent the "pumping" of the pressure line in the compressor.
At any point in the network, preferably located in the vicinity of the check valve, the line i leads to a diaphragm pressure regulator, which opens or closes the register c via the distribution spool 1 and the valve. engine m under oil pressure. when the quantity of air decreases, that is to say when the air pressure increases (path DE in fig. 2) the pressure also increases under the diaphragm k the latter rises overcoming the tension of the spring n and, using the oil pressure motor l, m, closes the register c, the latter can however only perform the closing movement until the diaphragm k comes into place against the adjustable stop p. by means of the handwheel c;
From this moment, the air pressure can continue to increase in the network, that is to say also in the pipe e, without the damper making a new closing movement. This register therefore remains, when the air pressure increases, in the same position and the compressor then works according to the characteristic y (fig. 2) corresponding to this position of the register.
If the air consumption in the network continues to decrease the air pressure then increases along part D-C of characteristic y, up to point C at which the pump limit is reached. Then, the aforementioned device intended to prevent the '"pumping" comes into action; the air flow is interrupted, the cla
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
check valve closes, and a return of air from the network is established by the by-pass g and the nozzle h, as well as by the compressor, in the suction line b, the compressor then continuing to run empty. As a result of the interruption of the air flow, the return flow from the network, and the continued consumption of air in the network, the network pressure then decreases until it reaches a value corresponding to point D of FIG. 2.
From this moment, if the air pressure continues to decrease, the damper begins to open, because the diaphragm regulator comes into action; blade branes' moves away from the adjustable stop p, because the tension of the spring n becomes preponderant, and the register c opens a little under the action of the oil engine l, m. Then, the compressor must immediately start delivering again, because it recirculates a considerable quantity of air through the suction line, which is preponderant over the weak return current, which the nozzle h prevents from increasing. in return therefore ceases, and the compressor works again on the network.
The network pressure immediately begins to rise again and the air pressure increases again along the D-C curve, the cycle repeating itself when point C is reached.
The diaphragm pressure regulator is provided with a handwheel q, by which the tension of the spring n can be changed even during work, so that it is possible to move the line D-E in fig. s parallel to itself, upwards or downwards, and thus modify at will the value of the constant air pressure.
EMI5.1
The object of the invention that when the air consumption in the network remains low for a long time, the "pumping" of the network occurs as slowly as possible, is achieved in the example which has just been described, as a result of the The register, when the flow starts again, first remains in the middle position, so that the inlet section of the suction line does not become larger.
At the same time, we ensure that the pressure drop does not occur over a too large distance; the stopper p did not exist, the pressure
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
would not increase appreciably, it is true, until the limit of "pumping", but then, it would decrease strongly, especially when the network is emptied slowly, not only at the points of consumption but also under the action of the aforementioned device to prevent "pumping" back to the compressor. It may be, for example, that a compressor, having a pressure fi.
2.Normal level of 17 kgs per hundred produces, while there is current in return, only a final pressure of about 5 kg / cm2
Pressure variations of several kilograms per cm 2 would therefore occur in the network, which is obviously not admissible. This latter disadvantage is also eliminated according to the present invention, since the amplitude of the pressure variations is limited upwards by the pumping limit and downwards due to the fact that at point D the pressure regulator enters again. in action and does not allow a subsequent decrease in the normal flow pressure. The variations here correspond to the projection of the arc C-D on the vertical, ie! the value x in fig. 2.
This value x can be kept low, as a result of the stop p is changed, by means of the handwheel o so that the diaphragm k only touches the stop p when the compressor approaches the "pumping limit". ".
In FIG. 4, the invention is shown applied to a centrifugal compressor driven by a driving machine with a variable number of revolutions, for example by a turbine. Figures 5 and 6 show schematically details of certain members of the embodiment shown, r denotes a diaphragm pressure regulator of known construction, s denotes a centrifugal regulator, 1 an auxiliary machine and t the pressure relief valve. admission of the prime mover. The diaphragm regulator r and the centrifugal regulator s work as an intermediary of the auxiliary machine 1 on the shut-off valve t, so that the adjustment diagram is again carried out along line C-D-E (fig. 2).
If, for example, the air consumption decreasing the air pressure increases along the line D-E, the diaphragm regulator moves, by increasing the spring tension, the extreme right point of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
lever u, and consequently the rod v downwards. Correspondingly, the steam inlet valve t will close to a greater extent, via the auxiliary machine 1, so that the number of revolutions will decrease, according to the specifications. from fig. 2.during the adjustment on the path DE, the centrifugal regulator s is completely inactive, because a stop v 'mounted on the rod v, is fixed in such a way on this rod that the latter must have first traversed the path 1- 11 before the stop v 'meets the penguin w' of the regulator lever w.
The centrifugal regulator therefore has no effect on the adjustment path D, E on the shutter member t; on the contrary it is on the course
D-E exclusively under the action of the membrane regulator r. It is only when the quantity of air drops below a value corresponding to pointD, that is to say when the flow continues to decrease and it is a question of closing the penny even more. steam shutter valve t, that the stop v 'of the rod v, which continues to descend, meets the sleeve w' of the lever w of the regulator, and consequently, from this moment, the central regulator. fuge s influences the steam shut-off valve t. However, at this time, the membrane regulator r is inactive.
In fact, while the number of revolutions of the prime mover gradually decreased along the line DE, proprotinelletn to the decrease in the air flow, the sleeve s of the regulator s also moved downwards, due to of the decrease in the number of turns, and on the other hand the sleeve w 'of the rod w has moved upwards.The diaphragm regulator however lowers the rod, with the stops v' and v, in such so that the stop v 'meets the sleeve w' at a point which corresponds to point D in the diagram of fig. 2 If then the quantity of air continues to decrease, it is the centrifugal regulator s which ensures the adjustment, because the rod v and the sleeve w 'of the rod w remain, from this moment, in contact with each other .
This must be all the more so as the centrifugal governor tends to maintain a constant number of revolutions.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
We then go to part C-D of the characteristic, so that the air pressure rises more quickly than on the D-E path. The diaphragm regulator can no longer follow the air pressure, which increases more strongly, the diaphragm comes into place against its intended limit, and the rod v can then continue to move downwards. of air, under the action of the centrifugal regulator s, the stopper v continuing to drive the rod r 'but no longer having a voice on the diaphragm regulator, because it moves the rod s away from the membrane '. The steam shut-off valve is then only under the influence of the centrifugal regulator s, and the latter keeps the number of revolutions of the prime mover constant.
If we then act on the compressor of the device freeing it from its load, for example according to Havlicek's proposal, On the one hand, the driving machine and the compressor are prevented from racing, and on the other hand we obtain that the filling of the compressed air network does not occur too quickly, because the centrifugal regulator keeps constant the number of revolutions of the driving machine according to the lowest admissible characteristic.
Fig. 5 represents the connection of the membrane with the rod s'. This rod contacts the upper membrane closure plate only under the slight pressure of the spring f and is therefore easy to lift.
Fig. 6 shows on a larger scale, the passage of the ti ge v with the stop v 'through the sleeve w' of the rod w of the regulator; the abutment v "fixed on the rod v acts in the same way on the sleeve of the rod r '.
By means of a handwheel it is possible to give various tensions to the spring of the diaphragm regulator r and thus bring the line DE in figure 2 to different heights, that is to say to adjust the final pressure of the compressor to the value you want. - read.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
To prevent the motor machine from racing, the regulator rod w is extended, in the example shown, beyond the sleeve s in the extreme point u 'of this extension takes a rod u which comes to bear against a spring stopper u ". When the number of revolutions rises above the maximum permissible, the sleeve rises until the extension of the rod w lifts the stop u" overcoming the set pressure of the spring which acts on it. Consequently the point y 'of the rod w moves downwards, for example to take the position y ". A rod Z' articulated at the point y 'comes to bear by its stop a' against the lever r 'and presses the latter down.
The result is that the rod is raised and that the rod v resting on the other end of the lever r 'is lowered to such an extent that it comes to bear by its stop v' against the sleeve w 'and that' it is again governed only by the centrifugal governor.
