  . " MACHINE PERFECTIONNEE POUR LA LIISE EST PAQUET ET SOUS
BANDDE"

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

Le bâti 60   effec-   tue alors un mouvement oscillant de sens contraire, son extrémité supérieure qui porte l'arbre 59 se déplaçant vers la gauche et cet arbre opérant simultanément une rota- tion partielle de manière à faire remonter la paire de doigts avec laquelle se trouve engagée la paire de lacets paquetée et entourée d'une bande;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

  . "PERFECTED MACHINE FOR BINDING IS PACKAGE AND UNDER
BANDDE "
The present invention relates to packaging machines and more particularly to a machine perfected for putting laces into bundles, in pairs, and putting these bundles in bands, this machine being applicable, for example, to laces. shoe laces packaging.

   So far the only devices used to bundle, in pairs, shoe laces and

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 others and to place on these packages an assembly band, were actuated by hand and consisted essentially of a rotating shaft provided with an arm at one of its ends, this arm carrying, at each of its ends, pins or studs which extend laterally. The operator grasps a pair of laces with one hand and brings their ends together by placing them on one of the side pins. He then turns the shaft by hand, winding the pair of laces on the two side pins in the form of a bundle which includes several lengths of laces arranged in parallel.

   While the laces are in this state, the operator takes a banae of pa pier, wets the glue on one end and places this strip by hand around the bundle of laces. This process is relatively slow and seriously increases the cost price of laces of all kinds.

   The object of the present invention is to remedy the drawbacks of the packaging methods used hitherto, such as for example that which has been indicated above, and relates, to this end, to a machine which rolls up in bundles. the pairs of laces and automatically applies to these packages an assembly tape or other means of retention.

   According to the invention, the operator places the end of a pair of laces at a point or in a determined part of the machine and, when the machine is put into operation, the pair of laces is automatically wound under. packet form, then after the packet is finished, a closure or assembly strip is attached to it automatically and the whole is driven out of the machine to some storage transport device.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 as desired. As the various operations of bundling and wrapping are carried out automatically, the only work necessary for the operation of the machine is to bring the pairs of laces to a determined point on this machine.

   The object of the invention is therefore an improved automatic sleeve for bundling and banding laces and other articles of the same kind.

   A preferred embodiment of the invention is shown, but merely by way of example, in the accompanying drawings.

   In these drawings, FIG. 1 is an elevation of the right side of the machine.

   Fig. 2 is an elevation of the left side.

   Fig. 3 is a section on 3-3, fig. 4.

   Fig. 4 is an end view.

   As seen in these drawings, 10 denotes a base provided on each side with side frames 11. In front and between the side frames extends a plate 12, while a bottom 13 extends between these side frames 11. and is connected to their rear part as well as to the base 10. Bushings formed as an extension of one another in the side frames 11 support a shaft 14 which projects beyond one of the frames and carries a steering wheel on its projecting end. 15. Near this flywheel 15 is mounted loose on the shaft 14 a control pulley 16 on which passes a belt 17 driven by an appropriate source of energy.

   A clutch is combined with the pulley hub ¯16¯ and with the shaft 14 and includes a sliding element

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 on the shaft 14 and by means of which it and the pulley
15 can be brought into or taken out of engagement. This clutch is actuated by a hand lever 17 pivotally mounted on a support carried by one of the side frames 11.

     A reservoir 19 is secured to a support
18 fixed to the base 13, and contains the wetting fluid intended to moisten the glue carried by the labels used in the machine. Above this reservoir 19 is disposed a shaft 22 on which is wedged a pulley 21 which is in the same plane as a pulley 22 wedged on the main shaft 14. Between the pulleys 21 and 22 is placed a loose pulley ruble guide 23 and an endless belt 24 passes over the pulleys 21, 22 and 23 to transmit the movement of the shaft 14 to the shaft 20.

   The latter carries a wetting roller 25 which is in contact with the surface of a second wetting roller 26 which is rotatably mounted in bearings and is housed inside the reservoir 19 so as to be partially immersed in the liquid which. is contained therein, as clearly shown in fig. 1. The periphery of the rollers 25 and 26 is formed of an absorbent material and the roller 26 which immerses in the liquid of the reservoir 19, conveys a part of this liquid on the roller 25, which keeps the absorbent periphery continuously moist. -this.

   The main shaft 14 loses a pinion 27 near one of the side frames 11. On these are formed, opposite each other, bearings in which rotates a transmission shaft 28 which carries a wheel. tooth 29 which meshes with the control pinion 27. A pinion 30, integral with the toothed wheel 29, drives a toothed wheel 31 mounted on the shaft 14. A pinion 32, integral with the toothed wheel 31 is in taken with a toothed wheel 33

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 crazy climb on the drive shaft 28.

   A clutch member 34 is formed on the toothed wheel 29 and a second clutch member, mounted on the shaft 28 so as to be able to slide but not rotate on it, acts in conjunction with the member 34 to couple. main drive shaft to shaft 28 A bearing surface 35 integrally with the bottom 13 is bored to receive a spring 36 which tends to push into engagement with one of the clutch elements a rod or piston 37. The internal end of this sliding rod 37 is arranged to engage, as indicated above, the clutch element and its external end carries, fixed radially on it, a pin 38¯.

   At the bottom of the outer face of the bottom 13 is attached a bracket 43 in which is fixed a pin 40 which carries an angled lever 41, one of the arms of which is articulated by its outer end to a control finger 42. and the other arm of which is connected to one end of a spring 39, the other end of said spring being connected to finger 42, as clearly shown in FIG. 2. This spring tends to maintain and bring finger 42 into the active position, as can be seen in this figure, this finger returning to its extreme position by a clockwise rotation movement, looking at FIG. . 2.

   When the angled lever 41 is mounted on the shaft 40 so as to oscillate counterclockwise, as seen in fig. 2, the end of the control finger 42 engages the radial pin 38 and moves the rod 37 to the left, overcoming the actuator of the spring 36, so that the end of this rod is released from the clutch and that the latter can mate, the ar-

 main bre 14 to the shaft 28 via the gear train inaique above.

   An upright 44, mounted on the floor or in any other suitable place, carries at its upper end an axis on which can pivot a lever 45 provided with a pedal 46 at one of its ends and which carries, articulated at its other end, the end / of a rod 47, the upper end of the latter being articulated to one of the arms of the lever.
41- A spring 48 is fixed, by one of its ends, to the lever 45 near its articulation with the rod 47,

     the other end of this spring being fixed to the upright 44. The components indicated above and numbered from 34 to
38 constitute the elements of a one-revolution clutch, the control mechanism of which comprises the finger 42 carried by the bent lever 41 which is actuated by the pedal 45.

   In the bearings formed on the side frames 11, there is mounted a shaft 49 which carries the adjustment or operating mechanism 50, of a shaft 51 which is itself mounted, parallel to the shaft 49, in necks. -. sinets formed on the side frames 11. A shaft 52, also mounted in the side frames 11, is operatively connected with the shaft 28 and carries a crank which regulates the mechanism 50. shaft 52 is transformed into an oscillating movement of a lever 53 and into an intermittent rotational movement of the mechanism 50, for example in the direction of the arrow in fig. 1.

   On the shaft 51 is mounted a winding mechanism which essentially comprises several radial shafts 54, regularly spaced and the outer end has a cross member 55 provided, at its ends, with retaining members.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 holding 56 around which the laces must be wound, the size of the bundle of laces depending on the distance between the retaining members 56.

   One can notice, by examining FIG. 3, that several groups of elements 54, 55 and 56 are evenly distributed around the shaft 51 and radially to it, and that each of these groups 54, 55 and 57 will rotate on itself at the same time as all the groups will be rotated in the direction of the arrow, fig. 3.

   The intermittent movement of the mechanism 50 results in simultaneously putting into operation two of the groups of elements 54, 55 and 56, one of them being placed at the upper end of the apron 57 which is, at this time. , capable of receiving a pair of lace-up laces and the other group being arranged almost horizontally and in front of a pair of fingers 58.

   This pair of fingers 58 is one of a series of pairs of fingers which are all mounted on a hollow shaft 50 mounted at the upper end of a frame 60 capable of oscillating on the shaft 52. The number of pairs of fingers 58 is equal to that of the groups a'elements 54c55 and 56 described above.

   Each of the pairs of fingers 58 is combined with a mechanism for feeding and folding around a pair of bundled laces, a strip of gummed paper or other suitable material which is housed in a magazine 61 mounted to move back and forth in a secured frame 62. at the upper end of a lever 55; the latter is itself connected to a suitable mechanism for imparting a reciprocating motion to the magazine 61, the frame 60 with the spaced fingers 598 and the label retainers and handling devices, adjust the grip

 strips of the store 61 by a suction device controlled by any suitable energy source through a conduit 64, the operating members of this conduit 64, being actuated aux'momentsvoulus.

   If we now refer to fig. 3, it is seen that the pair of fingers 58 which is disposed almost vertically and directly below the magazine 61 is in position to contact the lower label of this magazine, and that the aspiration which occurs in the conduit 64 will drop from the magazine, when the latter is moved upwards by the arm 63, the lowest label of the stack, which will remain in place between the fingers
58.

   The intermittent rotational movement of the hollow shaft
59 and the parts which it carries, is controlled by a shaft 65 by means of a crank 66, a connecting rod 67 and an arm 68 and it should be noted that the rotary movement of the hollow shaft 59 is adjusted with respect to the intermittent rotational movement of shaft 51 as well as to the reciprocating movement of magazine 61.

   The fingers 58 which are placed almost vertically, as in the example of FIG. 3, have gripped between them the lower label of the magazine 61 and the latter having been pushed upwards by the lever 63, the shaft 59 performs a partial rotational movement in the direction of the arrow, so that the label placed between the fingers 58 is driven in an anti-clockwise direction and brought against the periphery to the dampening roller 25, which has been moistened by the liquid in the reservoir 19, this label then being lowered in the position occupied in fig. 3 the preceding fingers, which extend down and to the left.

   On the next partial rotational movement of the shaft 59, the pair of fingers 58 which carry the label removed from the magazine 61 arrives at the position

 shown to the right of FIG. 3 and in front of the group of elements 54, 55 and 56, assuming that said group at this time carries a pair of laces wound around it ready to receive the assembly strip. At this moment, there is an oscillating movement of the frame 60, the upper end of which carries the shaft 59 and the parts which have just been indicated, moves to the right of the position shown in FIG. 3 and thus bring the fingers 58 of

 part and other of the pair of laces paq, r, tees carried by the group of elements 54, 55 and 56 by applying the label they bear on the package of laces.

   Organs, combined with the fingers 58, serve to fold the free ends of the tag around the bundle of laces and to hold them long enough in this position to ob-

The frame 60 then performs an oscillating movement of direction on the contrary, its upper end which carries the shaft 59 moving to the left and this shaft simultaneously operating a partial rotation so as to raise the pair of fingers with which the pair of laces packed and surrounded by a bandaged;

   in this movement, the bundle of laces comes into contact with the arm 69 which disengages it from the fingers 58 and brings it into the desired position so that it is attacked by a wheel with radial projections 70 driven by a intermittent movement and which acts in conjunction with a curved guide 71, said wheel 70 driving up the pair of packaged and wrapped laces to a table 72 on which it can be collected periodically by the operator.

   The operator's only job therefore consists in placing the ends of the pairs of laces against the retaining members 56 and supplying the latter with pairs of laces.

 laces as they are brought into the desired position at the top of the apron 57. The winding or bundling of the laces is carried out automatically and, by suitable adjustment of the mechanism 50, the speed of rotation can be varied. shafts 54 so that the loops of different lengths can be raised into bundles at the same time, that is, for the time which is necessary for the shaft 51 to turn as desired for the elements 54, 55 and 56 which are currently at the top of the apron 57,

   be brought in front of the fingers
58 carried by the hollow shaft 59. In addition, the intermittent movement imparted to the hollow shaft 59 is sufficient for it to successively bring, by a third of a turn, the fingers.
58 which it carries in engagement with the lower label of the store 51, then beyond the roller, moistener 25 in the standby position shown at the bottom left in FIG. 3, and, by the following partial rotational movement, opposite the group of elements 54, 55 and 56.
