fonctionnement, aucun gaz délétère ni aucune mauvaise o- deur, et, d'autre part, celui provenant du fait que la température de son rouleau est uniforme sur toute la sur- face de ce dernier; et, sur les machines à repasser et à glacer à chauf- fage par courant électrique à la tension normale des sec- teurs de distribution, lesquelles comportent une résistan- ce tournante solidaire du rouleau, celui de ne nécessiter ni bagues, ni balais pour l'amenée du courant de chauffage;

"Improvements made to the means for electrically heating rotating heating rollers, in particular to those for heating the rolls of the ironing and icing machines".
The invention relates to the means for electrically heating the rotating heating rollers; it relates more especially (because it is in their case that its application seems to offer the most interest), but not exclusively among these means, those for heating the rolls of ironing and icing machines.
Its aim, above all, is to make such said means, that their use is simpler and presents a greater newness ot more hygiene for the personnel who use them.
It consists, mainly, and concurrently, on the one hand, in having recourse, to constitute the element
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
heating rollers of the type in question, to an electrical resistance suitable for being introduced into the interior of the rotating roller without having contact with the latter, and, on the other hand, for supplying this resistance with a low voltage current , for example of the order of a few volts.
It consists, apart from this main provision, of certain other provisions, which are preferably used at the same time and which will be dealt with more explicitly below.
It relates more particularly to a certain mode of application (that in which they are applied to the heating rollers of ironing and icing machines), as well as a certain embodiment (that which will be indicated below), of said provisions; it relates more particularly still, and this by way of new industrial products, the rollers of the type in question comprising the application of these same provisions, the special elements specific, either to the establishment of similar rollers, or to the transformation heating rollers already existing and others comprising application of the invention, as well as installations (in particular ironing and icing machines), comprising such rollers.
And it can, in any case, be well understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the appended drawing, which supplement and drawing are, of course, given above all by way of indication.
EMI2.1
The single figure which constitutes this drawing shows, -au-iè.4U <3 <! 2'Llj schematically and partially in axial section, the roller of an ironing and icing machine comprising application of the provisions of the invention.
According to the invention and more particularly according to that of its modes of application, as well as that of the embodiments of its various parts to which

it seems that preference should be given, assuming that one wishes to establish an ironing and glazing machine, one goes about it as follows, or analogously.
As to the mechanical part proper, it is suitably constructed which may be suitable for gas-heated ironing and glazing machines, therefore so that the rotating roller a is held by two journals. hollow b1 and
2 b and is itself hollow over its entire length. One of the two journals is closed, b for example, by a plug c.
As regards the electrical part, it is formed by a resistor of appropriate section, and which may advantageously consist of a bare metal bar folded into a hairpin, suitable for occupying once in place the entire length of the inside of the cylinder. turning a; said resistance being supported, cantilevered, in such a way, by a support e fixed to the frame of the machine that it penetrates without touching any part of the machine, and by the opening of the hollow journal b1 , inside the rotating cylinder a.
As regards the heating current to be circulated in resistor d, a current tol is used as the potential difference between the ends f1
2 and f. resistance d is relatively very low, (for example, of the order of a few volts), this current being obtained in any suitable way, for example and advantageously by transformation, in a suitable transformer ± ¯9 of the normal current of the distribution sector.
As a result of which we obtain an ironing and icing machine offering, among other advantages, over gas-heated ironing and icing machines, on the one hand, that of not releasing, during its operation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
operation, no deleterious gas or bad odor, and, on the other hand, that resulting from the fact that the temperature of its roller is uniform over the entire surface of the latter; and, on ironing and glazing machines heated by electric current at the normal voltage of the distribution sectors, which include a rotating resistance integral with the roller, that of not requiring either rings or brushes for the supply of the heating current;
that of not presenting any danger to the per- sonnel in the event, or an accidental contact occurring, the heating current would pass through the body of the person in charge of the handling of the machine, this due to the low voltage of the current of heating; that of being very easy for the inspection and repair of the electrical resistance, this as a result of the fact that said resistance is visible; that of presenting more robustness due to the fact that the resistance is only traversed by a current at low voltage.
As goes without saying, and as emerges moreover from the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to that of its modes of application, nor to that of its modes of application. realization which has been more specially specified; on the contrary, it embraces all the variants, in particular: 'those where it would be applied to. means for electrically heating the rolls of paper machines, calenders, photographic glazing machines, etc .; those where it would be applied to all other machines incorporating heated wheels; those, finally, where it would be provided for an easy adjustment
