<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Stepped grille with swinging bars in the. longitudinal direction.
The present invention is the subject of an improvement to the stepped grid which was the subject of the main patent, -this improvement consists, like that which was the subject of the first Patent of .Perfectionnement N 337305 dated 11 September 1926 to this same patent, in that the two grid frames, and with them the grid bars which they carry, perform, each individually, oscillations similar to the relative oscillations of the two groups of grid bars of the main patent, that is to say that the various integer oscillations are decomposed into partial oscillations of amplitude smaller than the amplitude of an entire oscillation, and that the partial oscillations follow each other progressively, their sum being equal to the amplitude of an entire oscillation.
In accordance with the present invention, the grid frames are

animated by an oscillating movement, thanks to a transmission case or to an electric motor and to the motor device of special construction, instead of the sum of auxiliary cylinders at the value indicated in the main patent, because, for reasons of which must be explored under local conditions, control by means of a transmission or an electric motor is more suitable than control by means of an auxiliary steam cylinder.

the limits 2 ± and 0, we can vary the amplitude of the partial oscillations between a determined maximum and zero, and gradually obtain all the possible amplitudes between its limits; one can also stop completely or momentarily, according to the needs, the oscillations of the grid frame.
As we have already said in the preamble, the motor device
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
@ built according to the present invention is intended for grids whose bars are mounted in two frames .; each of these frames can be provided with a driving device of this type. the oscillations of the frames are periodic and the relative displacements which result therefrom for the two frames depend not only on the. oscillations themselves, but also of the period with which the beginnings of these oscillations succeed each other in time or, in other words, of the phase difference between the two oscillations of the grid bars.
To do. to vary this phase difference, it is necessary to stop the oscillations of a frame, for this purpose the screw of 1 axis 20 is loosened and this axis is rotated so that the crank length which results therefrom is equal to zero. quton can easily find this position, a graduated scale 45 is engraved on the cover 21, as shown in Figs. 4 and 10, and on the axis 20 is mounted a ring 44 provided with an index; the resulting length of the crank is indicated on the graduated scale, which allows to quickly find the position in which the crank length. result is zero and for which the oscillations of the grid frame cease.
At the end of a determined time, one can again impart an oscillating movement to the grid frame, so that the desired phase difference is obtained; at the same time one can vary the amplitude of the partial oscillations according to the needs.
