<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"MODE OF SUSPENSION OF THE SHOE CARRIER FOR THE DRUM BRAKES OF VEHICLES RUNNING ON RAILS"
Drum brakes are particularly advantageous for braking vehicles, because of the low wear of their lining and because of the small stroke of their wheelhouse. Until now they have rarely been used for vehicles on rails as a result of the mounting difficulties of the jaw holder disc. If the latter is fixed to the lower frame or to the vehicle body, this disc prevents these parts from moving relative to the center of the axle, caused by the set of springs.
A direct arrangement of the jaw carrier disc on the axle is only possible @
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
using complicated auxiliaries, since the disc must remain stationary with respect to the rotating axle.
The present invention relates to a mode of suspension for the shoe-carrying disc of a drum brake which is distinguished by its simplicity and safety.
The suspension is shown in Fig. 1 in a side view and in FIG. 2 by a plan view.
The disc a carrying the jaws is inside the drum c wedged on the axle. A lever d is linked to the articulation with this disc. The lever is forked and the upper right part is joined to the disc a by the bolt e.
The deflected part of the lever engages by a buttonhole, around the bolt f. fixed to the disc a and prevents lateral oscillation of the disc. The opposite end of the lever d is wedged on a shaft g mounted in bearings h. on the frame or vehicle body. At the opposite end of the shaft is another lever i connected by means of a bolt to the support fixed on the axle box. This last lever must completely coincide with the upper right part of lever d so that it does not appear in dotted lines in Fig. 1 only at the point where the deflected part of the lever d.
The operation of the suspension established according to the invention is as follows:
The disc a is carried by the levers i and d as well as the shaft g in such a way that it rests concentrically on the brake drum. When the side members of the vehicle are lowered due to the play of the springs, the shaft g undergoes displacement, as shown by way of example in phantom in FIG. 1. -, At the same time the lever i swivels around point k. The deviated part of the lever d, can, thanks to @
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
at the buttonhole, pivot on the bolt f. along the radius e-f.
The disc is not affected by this pivoting because its point of suspension is in the longitudinal axis of the bolt 1 which rests, stationary in relation to the center of the axle, on the unsprung box of the axle, -.
1 / object of the invention is not limited to the embodiment presented above; one can indeed imagine many modifications of the execution example. The important point lies only in the fact that the jaw-carrier disc, located in the brake drum, is connected to a system of levers connected on the one hand to an unsprung part of the vehicle, stationary with respect to the brake. the axle, and on the other hand, to a suspended part of the vehicle, so that the consecutive displacements of the suspended part due to the vehicle, relative to the axle, have no effect on the position of the jaws.
