 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

  Improvements in spinning and twisting looms.

   This invention relates to continuous spinning or twisting looms.

   It relates to improvements made to these looms and more particularly aims, on the one hand, at a special mechanism to give the twist to the yarn and to wind it up onto the spool and, on the other hand, the spindle itself; the invention also relates to a device for a. minimize inconvenience due to wire breakage which results in the wick being wound around the draw cylinder.

   In trades of this type known to date, these operations are carried out using a long rotating spindle which carries, above the carriage, the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 spool onto which the thread is emptied and, at its upper part, the integral fin which gives the wick / the desired twist. When the reel is full, we have to dismantle the fin to take the chuck out through the upper part of the spindle and replace it with an empty reel.

   In accordance with the invention, the fin integral with the rotating spindle is replaced by a device completely independent of this spindle and this results in great advantages, not only for the replacement of full coils by empty coils. , but also for the operation of spinning and twisting operations: it is possible, in particular ... to increase the number of turns of the spindles and the volume of the full spools and, in general, to achieve a much higher yield than that of the loom continues to spin or twist ordinary.

   It is to the knowledge of the applicant that we have already recommended a trade in which the fin is mounted independently, but the spindle is then fixed and serves simply to support the coil.

   In order to make the invention clearly understood, it is described below, but this by way of example only, with reference to the appended drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a continuous spinning machine, fitted with the new device shown in section on the left part.

 setting up.

   Fig. 5 represents gentle schematic views showing the twist cone of the yarn in the new and in the old loom.

   The torsion mechanism comprises a horizontal disc 1 (fig. 1 and 2) provided with two vertical hollow tubular rods 2 and 3, only one of which is used, the other only serving to balance the first or the second. replace, if necessary. This disc 1, mounted
 EMI3.1
 on the turbo 4, turns, pn.r the ini: .em, 3i, ire in ball bearings 5 for example, in the bush 6 blocked in the fixed upper beam 7 of the loom. This disc receives its rotational movement from the drum 9 mounted on the axis 10 (Fig. 1) by the cord 11 passing over the. return pulley 12 and on pulley 13 which is screwed onto tube 4 and therefore secured to disc 1.

   The wick 14, rough passage between the? drawing cylinders 15 and through the eyelets 8, enters the tube 4 (fig. 2), then passes through the eyelet 16 at the end of the rod 2, after having been previously guided or not, according to the needs and also depending on the nature of the wire, by the various pigtails 17 and 18. Each turn made by the disc 1 therefore corresponds to a twist of one turn for the wire.

   On the other hand, the spindle 19 (fig. 4) can freely rotate around its axis in a support 20 blocked by the nut 21 on the movable carriage 22 of the loom.

  This spindle 19 receives a rapid rotational movement (fig, 1) of the drum 9 by the cord 23 which passes over the return pulley 121 and, from there, over the pulley 24

 of the spindle remains perfectly fixed without undergoing any vibration.

     The spool 25 rests freely on the spindle.

  It has a circular groove 26, in la.quelle springs 27 engage which prevent it from moving in height during rotation; for installation, these springs pass through the notches 28 (FIG. 4) formed at two diametrically opposed points in the circular shoulder 29 of the. coil.

   As can be seen from Figure 1, the coil 25 has the geometric axis driven as the torsion mechanism and, in its upward and downward movement communicated by the movable carriage 22, it passes, rises and descends between the two vertical rods 2 and 3. The wire, coming out of the eyelet 16, empties onto the spool 25 to which it communicates a rotational movement, braked in the usual way to obtain the appropriate speed ratio between the disc 1 and the spool 25. The mobile carriage 22 is lifted by the action of the chain 30 which is attached to the column 31 integral with the carriage and controlled by the sector 32 driven by a suitable reciprocating movement around its axis of rotation 33; the lowering movement of the carriage takes place under the action of its weight.

   The upper positions of the movable carriage 22 and of the reel 25 have been indicated at 22 'and 25'.

   To replace the full coils with empty ones, the loom is stopped when the carriage reaches its lower position; this replacement does not require any disassembly, unlike what takes place with finned looms; this results in a notable saving of time.

   The new provisions adopted have further advantages, as can be seen from the following:

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

In the old trades, the upper end of the long spindle is overloaded by the rather heavy and insufficiently balanced fin, which must constantly be unscrewed and re-screwed for the replacement of the coils: moreover, this same spindle carries the load. of the spool, full of thread when the carriage occupies its upper position. Thanks to the new device, great stability is achieved for the various components, and in particular for the axis of the spindle, making it possible to give the wire a regular course and to eliminate any possibility of breakage: the rotation speeds can be increased, hence increase in the yield of the trade.

   In the known trades, the wire 14a (fig. 5) from the guide 8a has a path which moves away from the geometric axis of the spindle 19a, so that it is subjected to the action of centrifugal force, in the parts where it is not supported. This results in the known phenomenon of "ballooning" which is a function of the distance 8a-16a between the thread supports.

   This distance is' necessarily large in an ordinary loom with fins, because it is necessary to reserve above the fin, the place necessary for its dismantling and for the release of the full coils and that thus the eyelet - guide 8a cannot be brought closer to the fin 2a - 3a (fig. 5). With the new device, on the contrary, the lower guide 8 can be very close to the .poulie 13, since the torsion mechanism does not have to be removed. In addition, the wire 14 follows the geometric axis of the assembly until it exits the disc 1 in S, the height h of the torsion cone.

   Sa is smaller than the height ha of the torsion cone. SaCaion in the old, loom and, therefore, the bloat is

 to increase the speed of rotation.

   From all the above, it emerges that one achieves considerable rotational speeds, which can reach, with wet spinning, 9,000 spindle revolutions per minute on looms in which the spindles are separated by 6.5 c / m, with a coil height of 9 c / m; in the old trades, with a maximum coil height of only 6 c / m, the speed is only 4,000 revolutions per minute.

   But because of these considerable rotational speeds, it is essential to provide a device making it possible to reduce to a minimum the drawbacks which result from the breaking of the wire, drawbacks which do not constitute a great hindrance in the old looms at high speed. relatively low rotation ,. It is known that in the event of wire breakage, the wick winds up and becomes tangled around the lower stretching cylinder which continues to rotate, which obliges the worker to remove the wire wound around this cylinder. To avoid this operation, a small roller 34 of the same width is placed under the lower cylinder 15, the axis of which is mounted on the end of the angled lever 35.

   This lever oscillates around the pivot 36 and comprises at its other end a small counterweight 37 which presses the roller 34 against the stretching cylinder 15.

   If the thread breaks, the wick 14, wound around this stretching cylinder 15, unwinds and empties on the small roller 34, so that the stretching cylinder always remains clean; the worker can thus reattach the broken thread, without being prevented by the speed of the rotating loom.

   Of course, without departing from the limits of the invention, modifications can be made to it which do not alter the spirit thereof. In particular, the way

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 to obtain the rotational movements of the disc 1, on the one hand, of the spindle 19, on the other, can be any, as well as the assemblies, with or without 'balls, of these parts.
