 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  "Method and device for making separate, anatomically accurate shoe linings."
The manufacture of separate shoe linings for abnormal feet which are anatomically accurate requires a great deal of labor and preparation and considerable professional skill. Usually, the shape is prepared with the aid of fast setting shapeable products such as gypsum and the like. After having prepared a negative in this way, the metal trim should generally be prepared by hammering and bending, by hand. However, we frequently see errors on this occasion.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   The invention does not make use of known methods and means.

   According to the invention, the negative is formed by using metal bars of small diameter, arranged in a spring in a box close to each other; its bars, when in the de-energized state, together form a perfectly flat surface. The patient rests, giving a more or less strong load according to the special peculiarity of the case, on the surface formed by the bars. These bars, which all can move separately and independently of each other, adapt exactly to the shape of the foot.

   The bars are then held in place in the box ad non by clamping or pressure members. By using the negative shape thus formed and a box of free pins with which the box containing the negative is capped from above and whose separate pins are inserted exactly into the shape, a second shape is obtained, positive this one. The positive shape and the negative shape then form to a certain extent dies or a mold, between which the metal plate intended to serve as a lining is molded under the effect of pressure.

  Then just lightly polish the edges of the latter.

   The drawing represents the device which makes it possible to carry out the invention, by way of example.

   Fig.1 is une.vue of the device, in perspective; fig. 2 is a partial section through the device, on a larger scale; Figs.3 and 4 are plan views, on a significantly larger scale, of a separate part of the device.

   In a suitably parallelepiped rectangle a metal box, a little longer and a little wider than a foot of maximum dimensions, are arranged vertically close to each other, separate pins b, which together form an elose surface. At the posterior end, the pins b are

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 provided with a journal which allows them to be housed in a plate which is freely placed in the box. Plate d is some distance from the bottom of boot a so that the pins can move freely in the vertical direction as shown in fig. 2. The pins are provided at the posterior end with a screw thread and the pins f make it impossible to detach them.

  Springs e, which on the one hand rest on the base plate d and on the other hand on the pins b, keep the latter constantly in the upright position. Each separate spindle can move freely and independently, as shown in fig.2i of the neighboring spindle.

   The box is arranged between crossbars ± of a frame, so that it can be pulled out freely from one side. To give the negative shape of his foot, the patient places his foot on the surface formed by the broehes b. The various pins b drop to different depths in accordance with the shape of the foot and thus form a layer or bed corresponding exactly, in all detail, to the anatomical shape of the foot.

  Laterally, a groove is provided in the boot.!: Through which a cross member 1 can be inserted inside the box. On the other side, the cross member is supported on eccentric plates m which can turn in bearings k and provided with a handle 1. By tilting the handles in the direction of the arrow, the eccentric plate gives pressure on cross member 1 which. is thus pushed into the boot.

   The great friction which is adorned in this way not only keeps in place, according to fig. 3. all the pins which previously had moved freely next to each other, as shown in fig. 4 in a somewhat exaggerated way, but in addition, these are pushed so firmly against each other that they do not change their position, even in the event that it is centered .. this relatively great pressure.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   In one. frame frame o is arranged a second box p with pins q. This boot shows exactly the same arrangement, also from the point of view of the binding device, as the box has; however, the springs e are missing, so that the pins can move freely in their bearing plate. Initially, the pins q are all held in the raised position by a clamping rod 11. This position can * be achieved by simply lowering the @ to the de-energized state beforehand on the flat surface of the box a. After the negative form with the box has been pushed like a cover under the box R, the clamping device of the latter is released.

   The various @ pins then fall freely into the negative shape of the box, so as to create a positive shape. The pins g are then held in place by the clamping device. The box p is lifted again and a thin metal plate, r, generally made of aluminum, is introduced between the forms; then, using the rod! which acts as a pressure piston, it is molded directly into the matrix obtained. In this way, the filling comes out of the mold, finished. All that remains, if necessary, is to polish the edge of the trim.
