 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

84% H2
8 % O2H2
4,6% CH4
1,5% CmHn

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

     Exemple 3.- Le mélange de gaz obtenu suivant l'exemple 1 par le traitement à l'arc voltaïque est refroidi sous 70 kilogr. de pression à -100 C. 90% de l'acétylène et des autres hydrocarbures non saturés sont ainsi condensés,, Le mélange de gaz qui reste est utilisé immédiatement sous sa pression existante pour des hydrogénations.

 EMI1.2
 In the thermal processing, for example, of gas containing gaseous hydrocarbons, for example metbane, gas mixtures are obtained which contain hydrogen and unsaturated hydrocarbons, especially acetylene.

   Ox it was discovered that the gas mixtures thus obtained
 EMI1.3
 can be treated advantageously by eliminating the unsaturated hydrocarbons 9 lâctylëae in particular, by oraployant 1a 'pressure and preferably by means of 1vges9 and one ut111san

 compressed hydrogen, or the compressed mixture containing hydrogen, immediately for reactions taking place under pressure, for example for the hydrogenation of coals, tars, mineral oils, etc.

   This procedure has the advantage of allowing the labor required to separate the hydrocarbon to be used for an additional process at the same time. The removal of unsaturated hydrocarbons can also be carried out, independently of the extraction by washing, by absorption, for example using activated carbon, etc. The pressures to be applied for the process can be wind vary within wide limits; he fe, ut even consider pressures of 250 kilograms. and beyond. In general, the temperatures to be applied do not preferably exceed ambient temperature; in some cases it may be advantageous to operate at an interior temperature at room temperature.

   Often there is also an advantage in obtaining the separation of unsaturated hydrocarbons simply by the influence of low temperatures.

   Example 1.- A gas mixture of the following composition:
81% H2
1% CmHn 15 CH4 and homologs
3% Remainder composed of Az2, Co, CO2, H2S, as it can be obtained by the side of liquid products by the hydrogenation under pressure of coals, is treated with the arc volt arc, if necessary after a preliminary desulfurization.

   A mixture of gases is thus obtained having the following composition:

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

84% H2
8% O2H2
4.6% CH4
1.5% CmHn
1.9% Az and others.

   To remove the acetylene therefrom, this mixture of gai is washed, under a pressure of about 25 kilograms. for example with cyclohexanone as a solvent which then simultaneously dissolves part of the other unsaturated hydrocarbons contained in the gas. The gas washed and still under pressure, which contains besides small proportions of acetylene (0.1 to 0.2%) of nitrogen and the other components listed above, about 92% of hydrogen and 5.5% of saturated hydrocarbons, mainly methane, is used directly under the existing pressure, which can optionally be further increased or reduced, for example in the hydrogenation of coals, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and other reducible oxygen compounds.

   Example 2.- The gas mixture obtained according to Example 1 by the treatment with voltaic aor is discharged under 20 kilogr. pressure k through activated charcoal which thus absorbs four times the quantity of acetylene that it could hold without the use of pressure. The acetylene is thus eliminated almost entirely from the gas mixture. The resulting gas mixture, which contains besides methane, nitrogen and traces of unsaturated hydrocarbons, more than 92% hydrogen, is used directly under the existing pressure to hydrogenations.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

     Example 3. The gas mixture obtained according to Example 1 by the voltaic arc treatment is cooled to 70 kilograms. pressure at -100 C. 90% of the acetylene and other unsaturated hydrocarbons are thus condensed, The gas mixture which remains is used immediately under its existing pressure for hydrogenations.
