INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE IMPROVEMENTS "
We know that we have designed and built internal combustion engines in which the races: of. combustion and exhaust are greater than the compression and suction strokes, the purpose of this arrangement being to increase thermal efficiency. However, attempts of this kind have not been successful due to the complicated mechanisms proposed to provide the necessary variation in the races in question.
In accordance with the present invention, an epicyclic gear train is provided between the crankshaft and the piston. This gear train is preferably constituted by two toothed wheels, the first of which is integral with a fixed or stationary shaft, while the second rotates around the first and carries, integrally attached to it or to a single part with it, a crank arm or eccentric which carries one end., of a connecting rod of which the other

end is connected to the engine piston.
The accompanying drawings show a construction according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section taken along the line A - B of FIG. 2 with the flange plate being removed to show the interior construction.
Fig. 2 is a cross section passing through the crank box and
Fig. 3 is a vertical section showing the satellite and fixed gear wheels.
1, 2 is a double crank of the main shaft 17 of the engine, 3 designates the wall of the housing the crank, on the side of which pasae, the shaft 17 and on the other side of which is fixed a short fixed shaft 4 Between the arms 1 and 2 of the double crank is fixed the crank pin 5, by means of bolts 6. Above this crank 5 is freely arranged a projecting part 7 and, roller bearings 8 are arranged between these two parts. . On the protruding part 7 are keyed against the counterweight 9 and the eccentric plate 10, while the connecting rod is indicated at II.
Between the plate 10 and the head of the connecting rod 11 are arranged the hardened sleeve 12 and the roller bearings 13, the face plate 14 which maintains these parts in position being fixed by screws 15. We have shown studs 16 which secure the stationary shaft 4 to the crank box 3
To the protruding part 7 is fixed a toothed wheel 20, which meshes with a toothed wheel 21 integral or in one piece with the shaft 4.
In operation, the rotation of the crank shaft 17 determines the planetary movement of the protruding part 7, which is connected to the fixed shaft 4 by the toothed wheels 20, 21. The rotation of the protruding part 7 controls the piston by through eccentric 10 and

connecting rod 11, giving the piston two short successive strokes followed by two long successive strokes
The invention described herein is not limited to the construction and precise arrangement indicated and shown, but it may be the subject of various embodiments without departing from the spirit of the invention and without departing from the scope of this invention
