Description

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  "Improvements to corrugated sheet metal containers for heat exchange".

   Current corrugated iron containers for heat exchange, for example the tanks of electrical transformers, have their corrugations which, with respect to the other elements constituting the container itself, are placed outside said elements for an observer looking at the container. from above or from below; it is thus that if the receptacle comprises, as is usual, an upper frame in profiled irons, the waves are all outside the frame formed by these irons.

   This arrangement, which is advantageous in the case where the corrugations are intended only to increase the surface area of the walls of a container of determined shapes and dimensions, for example an electrical transformer tank, has major drawbacks when the receptacle works in the manner of a heating radiator or of an electric transformer tank, in which case the liquid to be cooled circulates, as shown in figure I attached, mainly in the central part of the receptacle and little along the waves, as would be desirable for their better cooling by the ambient air, (solid arrows @

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 indicate the path of the internal liquid,

  those dotted that of the outside air).

   This is why certain manufacturers have had the idea of adopting for these radiators the arrangement indicated by figure 2 in which the waves are entirely inside the elements will be defined above. Even allowing the waves to penetrate them. one inside the other, which reduces the bulk. However, this receptacle is difficult to construct; on the other hand, it can be seen that the air is very difficult to renew between the waves and this radiator also cools under bad conditions.

   The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks and it consists:
1) to force the liquid to circulate towards the external part of the waves thanks to a screen of suitable shape placed at the entrance of the receptacle, this screen being able to be mounted as well on the previous receptacles indicated above as on the containers below.

   2) to partially and suitably place the waves inside the other elements of the container as defined above, this arrangement being obtained by means of special cutting and folding of the sheets to constitute the corrugated panels.

   FIG. 3 shows schematically and by way of example a vessel forming a tank radiator in accordance with the present invention. This radiator is formed of the upper frame of profiled irons Y, Y 'and of the lower frame Z, Z' connected by waves each respectively partially arranged inside the vertical lines YZ, Y'Z '; an X screen is placed towards the upper part of the waves.

   To build this radiator, we proceed as follows.

   The sheets which are to constitute the corrugated panels are cut at their upper and lower parts following the lines A B B 'C D etc. and A1 B1 B'1 Cl D1 etc. indicated in figure 4. Then the sheets are folded along the dashed lines C C1, E E1 etc. the fold E Bi taking place in the opposite direction to the fold C C1, etc.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   The waves are then closed at the top and at the bottom by welding in I and after folding the edges A B, C B 'etc. in opposite directions so as to obtain the corrugated panel in FIG. 5.

   The various panels thus obtained are assembled by welding, for example along the fold lines such as A A1.

  Finally the ridges such as a are welded, at the top and at the bottom of the container, to frames of Y.Y 'sections or to any stampings.

   We thus obtain the receptacle indicated in plan by FIG. 6; on this one only part of the screen X has been shown. This screen can be fixed using a few welding points on the on- dulations; it also constitutes an excellent strut, regulating the spacing of the waves and preventing to a certain extent the deformation of the corrugated panels when the container is loaded; this is why it may sometimes be useful to also put another screen at the other end of the container, eg which may also allow the latter to be mounted in any direction.

   It is obvious that figures 3, 4, 5 and 6 are only indicative. For example, the waves can be triangular (case of the figures above), rectangular or any other; truncated at their ends at the same time inside and outside of the container as defined above, or only inside or outside or not even truncated from the damn wave can also be distributed in any way towards the outside and inside the container, that is to say that the line B B1 (figure 4) can be in the axis of the rectangle A A1 C C1 or more or less close to A A1 or C C1 without being confused with the 'one of these two lines,

  case of Figures 1 and 8 The container may however comprise waves of the type dela Figure I as for example indicated at b of Figure 6.
