<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

La réalisation du procédé peut par exemple se faire comme suit ;
EMI3.1

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
économie importante de masse de latex coûteuse et qu'on obtient avec peu de matières une pointe de lacet pleine et de bonne qualité;
' d'autre pat ce procédé a encore 1' avan- tage supplémentaire que les ébauches ainsà constituées en forme de bandes ou de bâtonnents peuvent être travaillées sur les presses de frappe automatiques usuelles ( servant à l'application de ferrets en tôle ou en celluloïd) et permett tent ainsi une fabrication particulièrement économique des pointes de lacet*

Manufacturing process for soft rubber ppinte laces *
It has already been proposed to manufacture laces with a flexible rubber tip by the fact that the end of the lace is immersed in a solution of rubber and that it is possibly further subjected to an operation, of vulcanization. Due to the small mass content of rubber in the usual rubber solutions, a usable needle cannot be produced in this way, especially since the rubber solution also adheres poorly to the lace.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
According to the present invention, these drawbacks are avoided essentially by the fact that a mixture of concentrated latex and sulfur, optionally with other additions, is applied to the end of the hollow lace and that the latter is then compressed in a heated matrix. in the form of a needle, so that the applied mixture is coagulated or vulcanized and transformed into soft rubber.
In this way, a beautiful, smooth and yet flexible needle can be made which does not produce any unpleasant pressure in the shoe and which, because of its thick rubber coating, is held securely between the shoe and the stocking without causing the shoe to be held securely. we must fear that it will fall.
In the practical realization of the process it is advisable to add metal salts or their oxides in alkaline solution. As feed material one can consider tannin, tannic acid and also phenols, such as for example naphthol, etc. Smoke black and covering colors such as ochres, etc. can also be used, which gives the needle the color of the lace. With a view to applying the needle, the mass described in a more or less liquid state can be introduced into the lace or else it can be applied to the latter, by rubbing then leaving it to dry first. and only then shape it to the press.
The mass can also be spread for drying on a smooth surface. The plate thus produced after drying is then cut into small strips or sticks which are introduced in a known manner into the end of the lace or are wound around it and are then pressed with heating.

hot press during the formation of the tips of the laces, there is instantaneous coagulation or in case of sulfur alloys, etc., simultaneously also vulcanization.
A strongly elastic consistent mass is produced by this process.
The process can be carried out for example as follows;
EMI3.1
<tb> Concentrated <SEP> latex <SEP>, <SEP> 60 <SEP> parts <SEP> in <SEP> weight ,,
<tb>
<tb> of <SEP> sulphate <SEP> of <SEP> manganese <SEP> 5 <SEP> "<SEP>" <SEP> "<SEP> which <SEP> is <SEP> treated <SEP> by

are ground very finely and mixed together.
Of this mixture, a small amount is introduced into the end of the lace and compressed in a heated die with the lace. The mass modified by the heating sticks intimately to the lace and forms a very elastic end piece and resistance.
Instead of combining the mixture directly with the lace, the mixture can advantageously also be combined first with an independent layer of fiber, for example by the fact that the mixture is rolled on a layer of paper or cotton wool and that drying the product, after which the plate thus obtained is cut into strips or sticks. The rods are then introduced into the end of the lace and joined to it in a heated press die. If, on the contrary, the plate has been cut into strips, the latter are wound on the outside around the end of the lace and then also connected to the lace in a hot press die.
The use of a similar intermediate support for the mixture of latex and sulfur during its bonding with the lace has on the one hand the advantage that one can achieve a
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
significant saving in weight of expensive latex and that a full and good quality lace tip is obtained with few materials;
On the other hand, this process has the further advantage that the blanks thus formed in the form of strips or rods can be worked on the usual automatic punching presses (used for the application of metal or celluloid pins. ) and thus allow particularly economical manufacture of lace tips *
The invention is of course not limited to the example described; other embodiments are also possible; one could in particular use instead of the mixture of latex and sulfur, another suitable mixture producing the same effect, CLAIMS.
