Self-cleaning candle. having been the subject of a patent application filed in
The subject of the invention is a self-cleaning spark plug applicable to explosion engines of different types.
The characteristic of the invention consists in placing at the center of the spark plug a movable electrode independent of the current outlet terminal, the body of which comprises helical turns capable of imparting to the electrode a gyratory movement and a vertical movement. alternative, under the influence of an air supply resulting from the suction and compression of the

engine. In such a way that by these two combined movements, the lower tip of the central electrode automatically cleans and the air cools the spark gaps integral with the base of the spark plug.
In the accompanying drawing, there is given, by way of example, an embodiment of an automatic cleaning candle established according to the invention. To this drawing:
Fig. I. is a front elevational view of the spark plug, separate base, cut away to show the arrangement of the movable central electrode.
Fig. 2. is a sectional view of the previous one following A. B.
The central electrode a can rotate and move longitudinally in the metal sleeve b flared downwards to form a closing seat. The sheath b is suitably insulated by the sheath d, of mica or porcelain, for example. This insulating casing is held in position by the nut! externally terminated by a small bowl which will be discussed later. A wire retainer f, orientable to the desired position and independent of the central electrode, serves as a contact. A damping spring is mounted at c at the top of the electrode. The tension of the spring c and consequently the amplitude of axial displacement of the central electrode a are regulated by the nut jg carrying air intakes g ', and the counter-nut h.
The mounting nut i connects this assembly to the base i, the lower end of which carries the spark gaps k.
In addition, it should be observed that the body 1 of the electec-

trode a which moves in the concentric sleeve b is, in this embodiment, of triangular section and twisted in spirals to make the electrode a turn when the air sucked in by the motor passes.
It is easy to see that when the spark plug which has just been described is placed on the cylinder of an engine; when it is started, the suction drawing the outside air through holes 9 1- on the turns 1 of the central electrode a, this rotates in the sleeve b and is lowered by compressing the spring c. This has the effect of bringing the lower part a 'between the separators k and, by these two movements, cleans them while the air cools them.
When the cylinder is compressed, the electrode a rises in the sleeve b, its conical part m comes to rest again on the seat b and hermetically closes the spark plug, thus ready for a new ignition.,
To facilitate the departure, in cold weather, for example, pour a few drops of gasoline in the small bowl! . This gasoline passes through the spark plug inside the metal sleeve b and arrives at the explosion chamber.
This invention constitutes a definite industrial result by ensuring regular operation of the engines.
