Perfectionnements aux transporteurs à courroie.
EMI1.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Improvements to belt conveyors.
EMI1.1
Zinvertioz2 refers to the endless type belt-type trail runners in which the drum motor is at mid-length of the transporter. With such conveyors it is often desirable to be able to discharge in either direction, and it is the object of the present invention to provide a means for the automatic catching up of slack behind the drum motor, whatever. the direction of travel of the belt.
According to the invention there is provided a pair of tensioning rollers coupled but having their axis movable pax with respect to the axis of the drum motor and arranged such that the thrust exerted on the axis of one of the rollers by the part. tension of the belt, moves it in such a direction and by such an amount that the other roller is caused to press the loose part of the belt against the drum motor, preferably so that the belt engages with it. the roller and the drum following generators which are roughly opposite
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to each other.
By this means, the driving force is maintained at a maximum value in each direction and is independent or approximately independent of the tension of the loose part of the belt *
In a simple embodiment of the invention, a pair of tension rollers is carried by a support sliding horizontally with respect to the axis of the drum motor, the tension rollers being arranged one on each side thereof, to mid length of the return run of the belt.
The belt passes over the upper surface of the tension rollers and / lowers under the underside of the drum motor. In operation, regardless of the direction of movement of the drum motor, the tensioned end of the belt will move apart. its drum drive idler roller and thereby cause the second idler roller to urge the loose portion of the belt against the drum motor, thereby increasing the driving force between the drum motor and the belt. .
In one modification, the two tensioning rollers can slide independently in a fixed frame. They are, however, coupled by an endless belt which passes over them and under the drum motor. The main conveyor belt rests on the coupling belt and the effect is similar to the above since the tensioner roller moved by the thrust drives the other tensioner roller with it through the belt. coupling.
In another modification where the two tensioning rollers are mounted in a (sliding Rassis, the axes of the rollers are joined.?, To the frame by means of springs, which provides a greater degree of flexibility, and in a fourth modi - fication the line joining the axes of the tensioning rollers may tilt.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figs. 1, 2 and 3 represent three different variations.
Referring to Fig. 1, the conveyor comprises an endless belt 1 passing over end idle pulleys 2, 3 and driven by a drum 4 which is in contact with its strand
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
lower, between pulleys 2, 3.
According to the invention, there is provided a pair of tension rollers 5, 6 in engagement with the lower strand of the belt on each side of the drum motor 4. The tension rollers are carried by a support 7 whose arms are provided with rectangular holes such as 8 to allow it to slide horizontally on the rectangular block carried by a frame 9 supporting the shaft 10 of the drum motor 4. Assuming that the drum 4 rotates clockwise as indicated by the arrow will see that the tensioned part of the belt takes on the tension roller 6 while the tensioner roller 5 takes on the loose part of the belt.
The pressure of the tensioned part on the pulley 6 will move the support to the right in the figure and thus force the pulley 5 against the loose part of the belt, towards the drum motor 4, increasing the driving force between the belt and the drum 4 in proportion (or approximately) of the tension in the tensioned part of the belt. It is envisioned that the movement will be sufficient at this time to bring the tension roller and the drum into engagement with the belt which is therebetween, by contact with the surfaces of the belt along approximately opposite lines and which in the embodiment shown, will be in the horizontal plane containing the axes of the drums and rollers.
Fig.2 shows a modification of Fig.1 whereby the tension rollers 4, 6 are mounted so as to be separately sliding in the frame 9 which carries the shaft of the drum motor 4.
The tension rollers are, however, coupled by an endless belt 11, so that when the roller 6 is moved to the right by the tensioned part of the belt 1, the roller 5 will be moved similarly by means of the belt. coupling 11.
Fig.3 shows another variant in which the rollers 5, 6 are mounted in the frame 7 by means of pivoted yokes 12, 13 whose position is adjusted by springs 14, 15. In this case, the movement to the right of the tensioner roller 6 compresses
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the spring 15 which in turn moves the frame 7 to the right, compressing the spring 14 and finally moving the tension roller 5 to the right as will be readily understood.
The invention is not limited to the above arrangements, in which the conveyor belt passes over the tension rollers and under the drum motor, equivalent arrangements being obtainable, for many purposes, by mounting the rollers. tensioners on a swingarm or by passing a conveyor belt under the tensioners and above the drive drum.
Summary.
In summary the invention relates to: 1. In a belt conveyor, a pair of tension rollers engaged with the tensioned and loose parts of the belt and coupled so that the displacement of one of the ga, lets by pressure of. the tensioned part moves the other roller to press the loose part of the belt against the drum motor,
2. In a belt conveyor according to 1, a pair of tensioning rollers engaged with the belt on each side of the drum motor, said rollers being carried by a frame or mobile lever.
3. In a conveyor belt along 1. rollers whose axes are movable relative to each other, said rollers being coupled by an endless belt.
4. In a belt conveyor according to 1, 2 or 3, resilient adjustment members or means applied to the tension rollers.
