<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"Desmodromic distribution for engines".
The object of the present invention is an improved desmodromic distribution for internal combustion engines. The distribution valve being in particular controlled subsequently by an oscillating lever, the oscillation area of which is constantly urged by a spring or an equivalent device, in the direction useful to ensure the closing of the valve.
This improvement therefore consists in mounting the axis of oscillation of the levers controlling the valves in a relatively free manner, so that said axis receives positive support during the opening movement of the valve, however that in the closing movement said support has an elastic action which
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
ensures perfect and rapid closing of the valve. The valve will not. therefore not automatically controlled by a spring generally concentric with the valve stem and it will suffice to provide a simple suitable guide po.ur the valve stem itself.
The invention will be described below with reference to the schematic drawing appended hereto.
Figure 1 is an elevational view partially sectioned; Figure 2 shows the arrangement of the cam profiles.
Let us consider that in the cylinder head 1 of an engine cylinder is mounted the valve 3 whose valve stem 3 extends inside a housing 4 machined in the hollow casing 6 which surrounds the cylinder head 1. The stem (The valve 3 will be threaded so as to be able to engage the guide nut 7 which can slide in the tubular casing 4 by driving the valve 2 in an alternating stroke. This guide nut will be wedged by the cone with against. .. nut 8 which prevents matting of the screw thread of the rod 3 during operation of the valve 2, A guide nut 7 is engaged by a fork the oscillating lever 9 whose fork 10,10 'is controlled by cam 11 of camshaft 12.
The axis 13 of the oscillating lever 9,10,10 'is mounted in a yoke or yoke 14 with a U-shaped section and this yoke engages by a rod 15 inside a housing 16 adapted in the casing 6 The housing 16 contains a spring 17 which exerts an upward traction on the rod 15, so that the yoke 14 and the pin 13 feel biased in the direction of the marl. The Rossort 17 '' bears, on the one hand, on the bottom of the case 16 and, on the other hand, on a washer 18 fixed to the), rod 15 by 'two half-moon clamps with nut.
We understand the operation of this distribution, which is characterized by extreme flexibility allowing very high speeds due to the fact that the said distribution indirectly ensures better suction and better evacuation of gases.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
When valve 2 will be. lifted from its seat by the action of the cam 11, the axis of oscillation 13 of the lever 9,10,10 ', will find a firm support by the fact that the yoke 14 can rest on the bottom of the housing 16 , however, when the decay 11 actuates the fork 10 'to close the valve, the axis of oscillation can play with a play determined according to the circumstances, so as to cause a rapid and flexible closing of the valve.
As illustrated in Figure 2 the cam has two profiles 11, 11 '. Profile 11 begins to open the valve when profile 11 'leaves lever 9,10'.
This construction makes it possible to dispense with the automatic closing spring ... generally surrounding the valve stem. The latter, by the fact of being guided in a special housing, it will no longer be necessary to provide a guide for the said valve stem in the wall of the cylinder head itself, which therefore makes it possible to create a larger exhaust. efficient and less machining work.
On the other hand, this construction allows the use of distribution cams with very rapid lifting and lowering without having to fear a misadjustment of the distribution elements ,,
It is evident that a desmodromic valve control of this kind can be applied to all reciprocating valve engines, and that the camshaft is ready for the respective control of any number of valves, according to the same. invention, the construction as a whole remaining elementary and cost effective. For water-cooled engines, the device may be mounted on the superstructure, the valve stems extending beyond the envelope in question.
