 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

  "Shielded coil with adjustable self-induction".

  Dutch patent application dated October 25, 1929 in his favor.

  In the mass production of shielded coils, that is to say coils housed inside a closed metal box, difficulties are often encountered because the self-induction differs from one coil to another. the same series. Although these differences are generally not very large, they are sufficient to have, if the coils are mounted in TSF devices and, in general, in devices intended for the amplification of electric oscillations at high frequency, a troublesome effect on tuning, especially in the case where several tuned circuits are controlled by a single adjustment device.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   Several means have already been proposed to adjust the self-induction after closing the box. One of these means consists in providing inside the box a metal body which, after closing the box, can be moved from the outside, so that its position is variable relative to the coil.

   This has the effect, however, of modifying the own capacitance of the coil, this variation being usually large enough to have, for small values of the tuning capacity, a rather considerable effect on the position of the coil. capacitor, so that the control of several tuning capacitors with a single adjustment device encounters great difficulties.

   These difficulties are felt more particularly if, inside the shielding box, several coils intended for different wavelength zones are mounted. If we want to have, for example, three selfinduction values, we can place three coils in the box. One can also use, for example, a single coil, two coils connected in series or three coils in series.

   It is obvious that other combinations are also possible.

   According to the invention, near or in front of the reel is disposed a rotating metal body, the axis of rotation of which preferably intersects the axis of the reel and the center of which is located in the latter axis. The two axes usually intersect at an angle of 90, although another angle is also possible. In some cases, an intersection angle other than 90 may even have advantages. The metallic body can be constituted by

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 for example, by a disc or a closed coil. In the case of cylindrical coils, the rotation shaft of the metal body according to the invention can be located at one of the ends of the coil. Preferably, this tree is isolated or it is made of insulating material.

   If several coils are arranged inside the shielding box, each of them is provided with a rotating metallic coil or a rotating metallic body of another form. In this case, the arrangement of the disc at the end. This coil has the particular advantage that the selfinductions of the various combinations can be adjusted without any risk that a subsequent adjustment will affect the previous adjustment.

   For example, we can adjust the first coil while shorting the other. If in this case the disc or other metallic body of the second coil is located at the end of the latter furthest from the first coil, the second coil acts as a screen between its metal disk and the first coil. . This remark also applies to the following coils.

   The advantage which the invention allows to obtain consists in that a large number of coils can be mounted in a single box and that, in a simple manner, the different selfinductions can be given the required value.

   The coils of the same series are, therefore, practically identical, so that they can be interchanged without changing the tuning of the device.

   The invention will be better understood by referring to the appended drawing which shows, by way of example, one embodiment.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   In the figure, 1 designates the shielding box inside which is arranged a hollow cylinder
2 carrying three coils 5, 4 and 5, this cylinder being fixed, by means of brackets 6 and 7, to the cover of the box. Near the point where the axis of the coils intersects the end face of the cylindrical shielding box, the end of the coil 3 leaves the box passing through a socket 9 recessed in this end face. The other end of the coil 3 exits the box through a second metal socket 10 also recessed near the point of intersection of the axis of the coils and the end face of the box.

   This end of the coil 3 is also connected to one of the ends of the coil 4, the other end of which comes out of the box in the same way as the two ends of the coil 3. The coil 4 is connected, in or - Be, at one end of the coil 5, the other end of which comes out of the box. A total of four threads therefore emerge from the bowl.

   The self-induction correction is effected using metal discs 11, 12 and 13 which can be rotated using shafts 14, 15 and 16 on which they are mounted.

   These shafts consist of a middle piece 17, 18 and 19 made of insulating material and end pieces 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 made of metal. At the left ends, the shafts are fitted, for example, with heads which allow them to be turned. After being placed in the correct position, the shafts can be immobilized by welding. In this case, care must be taken that between

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 at the ends of the shafts and the wall of the box there are no gaps left through which the magnetic field could escape from the box.

   To obtain a watertight seal of the box, it is also possible to weld metal caps to the wall. In this case, the trees can be entirely of insulating material.

   It is also possible to bring out the shafts, regardless of whether they are metal or insulating material, through sockets in the manner indicated above for the wires.

   The self-induction is preferably adjusted in such a way that first of all that of the coil 3 is adjusted by rotating the shaft 17, the coils 4 and 5 being shorted. Then, coils 3 and 4 are connected in series (coil 5 alone then being short-circuited) and disc 12 is rotated until the total selfinduction of coils 3 and 4 has the desired value. Changing the position of the disc 12 has no effect on the self-induction of the coil 3 'because the disc 12 is arranged such that the coil 4 acts as a screen between the disc 12 and the coil 3.

  Similarly, coil 5 acts as a screen for disk 13, so that this disk can be rotated without exerting any effect on coil 4.

   It has been found that it is thus possible to obtain rapid and exact adjustment of the self-induction without modifying the capacitance of the coils. This setting is very important, in particular, for the mass production of choke coils.
