<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
Pour mettre en place le mécanisme guide-fil au commencement de l'opération de bobina.ce, on peut employer un dispositif pour dégager à la fois les deux demi-écrous k2 et pour les maintenir dans une position neutre entre les vis motrices b et c. Un mécanisme recommandable dans ce but peut comporter un levier m articulé en m1 au chariot et s'étendant à l'avant de la machine de manière à pouvoir être manoeuvré facilement, l'autre bras étant pourvu d'une rainure évasée m2 dans laquelle, lorsqu'on manoeuvre le levier m, s'engage une broche k5 du levier k portant les écrous k2, de telle sorte que la rainure m2 en glissant sur la broche k5 a pour effet, par suite de ses faces inclinées;

Improvements to winding machines and other similar machines.
This invention relates to improvements in winding winding machines such as those used for manufacturing electrical windings and its main object is to provide an improved wire guide mechanism for arranging the coils side 2 side, in close proximity to the wire. one from the other, on the winding in the winding path.
The transverse-moving thread guide mechanism according to this invention comprises two driving screws, one rotating member rotating in opposite directions, and two half-nuts each capable of engaging alternately.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
one of the driving screws to reverse or advance the carriage along the winding in the winding track.
The carriage is provided with a spindle which meets pre-set stops to pass one end of a lever over a stop, as described below, in order to reverse the direction of movement.
The displacement of the two half-nuts is preferably determined in such a way that they engage directly with the driving screws, so that the screw threads suffer only a minimum of wear.
In order to make the invention fully understood, it will be described below with reference to the appended drawings which represent, by way of example, and without limitation, a suitable embodiment of this invention, and in which :
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a winding winding machine provided with a yarn guide mechanism according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the machine.
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the wire guide carriage according to the present invention, in place, and
Fig. 4 is a front elevational view of the wire guide carriage removed from the machine.
The winding winding machine can be of any suitable shape and can be operated by hand or by an electric motor or some other way. In the hand operated machine, which is shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the control crank (not shown) is preferably mounted on one of the side posts a.
The command is transmitted to one of the driving screws b and ± by an adjustable friction transmission d, dl and d2. The
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
two driving screws b and c are connected in '-' (; they by pins, one of which ± 1 is shown in Fig. l, so that they turn in opposite directions, and they are arranged l 'one behind the other (Figs. 2 and 3), and grasped at an appropriate distance. The driving screws b and ±. are installed at the front of the machine as is clearly shown in the figure
Fig. 2, so that the space behind the reel being wound up remains free.
A paper feed mechanism such as, for example, that described in a patent application filed in Belgium on the same day ['it' the same company for: "Improvements to winding machines and similar machines" ( Case 1) can be mounted in this location, and by this particular arrangement of the driving screws b and ± it is possible to ensure easy operation of the paper feed mechanism.
The wire guide carriage is placed above the driving screws, (see more particularly Fig. 3) and is capable of sliding on two rods f and g arranged one above the other and fixed in the lateral mounts a.
The carriage comprises a main part h provided at its lower end with two tubes hl extending in opposite directions and split at their ends in h2, the lower guide rod f passing through these tubes hl and the part h of ma - niere to ensure that the part h is closed supported while being able to slide easily and to prevent this part from tipping around it. This part h is provided at its upper end with a groove h3 through which the upper guide rod g passes.
The part h extends upwards and forwards a little above the upper guide rod g and comprises at this point two lugs h4 between which is articulated the wire guide device consisting of an arm j bearing at its anterior end thin plates of steel it arranged below a loaf of rolls or rods j2, the wire being brought to the boil between the rolls or rods j2 and these thin steel plates
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
he.
A part in the form of a bridge h, mounted between the ears h4, is provided with a boss h6 to receive an adjusting screw h7 whose inner end rests on a shank h3 of the arm j. from this arm 1 towards the coil e is thus limited by the meeting of the screw h7 with the shank j3, but at the same time one can, if desired, move the arm = [away from the coil e by tilting it back, to allow coil replacement.
The lower part of part h, comprising the main part of the wire guide carriage, has at its lower end, that is to say near the lower guide rod, a pair of ears extending in rear, one of which is shown at h8, between which is hinged a lever k, the lower end of which is bifurcated at kl and is located between the driving screws b and c. At the ends of the branches of the fork of the lever k are fixed two half-nuts k2 arranged back to back and intended to engage with the driving screws b and c, respectively.
It will be understood that as a result of the rotation in opposite directions of the driving screws b and c, when one of the half-nuts k2 is in engagement with one of these screws, the carriage h and its associated members move in one direction , while when the other half-nut k2 is in engagement with the other driving screw, the carriage is driven in the other direction and that, to reverse the direction of travel of the carriage, it suffices to oscillate the lever k carrying the half-nuts k2 so as to release one of the latter from its driving screw and to engage the other half-nut with the other driving screw.
The change of position of the lever which carries the half-nuts takes place as follows: the upper end of this lever k, above the point of articulation, is provided
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
a k3 head spindle, the head of which is bevelled at the top to form an edge k4 inclined at 45 on the axis of movement of the carriage. A lever h10 articulated to the carriage h on a pivot h9 extends on either side of the latter and one of its arms is connected by a tension spring hll to a pin or an ear h12 of the carriage h, while the other arm which extends above the bevelled pin k3 of the articulated lever k carries a conical pin h13 directed downwards and held in engagement with the beveled pin by the action of the spring traction h11 mentioned above.
It will be understood that this conical pin h13 which rests on one of the oblique surfaces of the angled pin k3 tends, due to the pressure exerted by the spring hll, to push the lever which carries the pin in one direction or the other, depending on the face with which this conical pin is in contact, and consequently maintains one of the half-nuts k2 in engagement with one of the driving screws b and ±.
The lever h10 which carries the conical spindle h13 is articulated to the pivot h9 which extends on either side of the carriage and can slide in the latter.
The thread guide mechanism works as follows:
The coil e which must be wound being in place, stops 1 are fixed on the upper guide rod g, depending on the length of the coil considered. To aid in their fixing, these stops can be provided with projecting arms. The machine is then started up and the carriage then moves along the guide rods g and h in one direction. When the carriage approaches one of the ends of its travel in a determined direction, the pivot h9 on @
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
which is articulated the lever h10 carrying the conical pin h13, meets the stop 1 on the upper guide rod ±. If the carriage continues to move, there is a relative displacement between it and the spindle h9.
The lever h10 which is fixed to the spindle is then actuated and the tapered spindle h13 begins to rise on the oblique surface of the beveled spindle k3. The carriage moves in the same direction as long as the conical pin h13 remains in contact with the. oblique surface and thus maintains the half-nut in engagement with the driving screw. However, as soon as the conical pin h13 reaches the apex k4 of the oblique surface, the least displacement causes it to pass over this apex, and the pressure from top to the bottom exerted by this pin h13, as a result of the tension of the spring h11, on an oblique surface whose inclination is directed in the opposite direction to that of the other obliaue surface, has the effect of making oscillate on its pivot between the lugs h8, the lever k, which carries this conical spindle k3.
This oscillation of the lever k releases one of the half-nuts k2 and engages the other. The wire guide carriage then moves in the opposite direction until the spindle h9 carrying the lever h10 meets the other stop 1, the step reversal then being done in the same way.
It will be seen that the change of nuts k2 and therefore the reversal of the trolley is effected, according to this invention, by means of a relatively simple mechanism.
A great mechanical advantage of this device is that the half-nuts k2 engage directly with the driving screws b and c and do not engage the latter by an oscillating movement which. would tend to cause heavy wear of the drive screws. The setting is made in a straight line perpendicular
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
cally to the axis of rotation of the driving screws and the wear of the latter due to the engagement and disengagement is reduced to a minimum.
To set up the thread guide mechanism at the start of the winding operation, a device can be used to release both the two half-nuts k2 and to keep them in a neutral position between the driving screws b and vs. A recommended mechanism for this purpose may include a lever m articulated at m1 to the carriage and extending at the front of the machine so as to be able to be easily maneuvered, the other arm being provided with a flared groove m2 in which, when operating the lever m, engages a pin k5 of the lever k carrying the nuts k2, so that the groove m2 by sliding on the pin k5 has the effect, as a result of its inclined faces;
, tilt the lever k carrying the half-nuts and disengage the latter, the position of the lever when the spindle is at the bottom of the groove being such that the nuts are both released. With the two half-nuts released, the carriage can be slid freely along the guide rods. This position for which the two half-nuts are released while the pin k is in the groove m2, is clearly shown in fig. 3.
Many modifications could of course be made to the above-described form of construction without departing from the present invention.
