<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

"DEVICE FOR LIGHTING TRAINS"
The devices for the lighting of trains consist of a battery supplying the lamp circuit, a dynamo for the charge of this battery, with a fast-acting regulator, a parallel coupling device for the dynamo and the battery, a load limit relay for the battery and a lighting current relay which, when it reacts, puts a resistor in parallel with the current winding of the fast regulator in order to reduce it the ampere-turns. In all devices for lighting trains known to date, the limit relay

The load cannot return to its original rest position once it has reacted until after the dynamo has been switched off.
It is therefore not possible without further precaution to charge the battery immediately after switching off the train lighting. The disadvantage of this arrangement is especially felt when the dynamo is driven not by the axle, but by a special motor, for example on locomotives where the motor remains running for a relatively long time and where it can happen that after the load limiting relay has operated, current is still being taken from the battery, for example to supply switching circuits. The state of charge of the battery is thus compromised, so that at the end of a period of service the battery no longer has its full capacity.
In order to remedy this drawback and so that the battery can be fully recharged each time current has been taken, according to the invention, the excitation winding of the limitation relay is short-circuited. charge each time current is taken from the battery, so that the armature of this relay drops out, insofar as it had been attracted previously, and that said relay can resume acting as soon as the current is drawn stopped. In this way, the battery charge is completed after each current draw, so that after each period of service almost the entire capacity of the battery is available as a reserve for current withdrawals during downtime. of the dynamo.
An exemplary embodiment of the object of the invention is shown schematically in the drawing. a designates the lighting dynamo, b the battery, r, the paralleling device

of both. The fast acting regulator is designated by d; e is the lighting current relay and f the load limitation relay. The dynamo a is driven either by the vehicle axle or by a special motor mounted on the locomotive. The lighting current for the lamp group g passes through the contacts of the paralleling device, the excitation cover of the lighting current relay and the switch h.
The armature of the lighting current relay carries an auxiliary contact il which, when the switch h is closed, is applied against its support contact i2 and thus bypasses the excitation winding of the load limiting relay, so that the armature of the relay drops out.
Whenever the lighting circuit is closed in this way, the load limiting relay is made to drop, so that as soon as the lighting circuit is opened, it can immediately react again and the battery. recharges.
In order to also obtain this action in the case where, for example, current is taken from battery b intended, for example, to supply switching circuits, the lighting current relay e is provided with an additional winding m by means of which, when the operating circuit n is closed, the auxiliary contacts il, i2 are also closed so that the load limitation relay is thus bypassed and drops out, while, when opening operating circuit, it only reacts when the battery is fully charged.
As shown in the dotted line in the Figure, the complementary winding m of the lighting current relay can also be interposed in the battery charging circuit, so that the charge limiting relay is also shorted. when, in the case of a rapid start of the dynamo, the intensity of

load exceeds its normal value.
