<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Improvements to the balancing of shaking screens and other oscillating mass devices.
This invention relates to devices with oscillating masses, in particular shaking screens which comprise two cradles animated, in opposite directions, with a pendular movement which is imparted to them by a common bent shaft by means of transmission levers arranged symmetrically on the other side. either side of the tree. If, in such an apparatus, the cradles are of the same weight and support equal loads, the reactions of their movements in opposite directions cancel each other out and the apparatus operates without disturbing its foundations. But, in practice, the load of the cradles varies constantly.
The resulting imbalance, in known devices, has the effect of subjecting them to destructive shocks.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
fixed parts, frame and foundations, which support the elbow shaft and the bearing points of the transmission levers.
According to the present invention, the automatic balancing of the apparatus is achieved, statically and dynamically, for any variation in weight or load of the cradles, by making the support points of the cradles freely and integrally movable in the horizontal direction. two transmission levers. The mobility of the support points in fact allows the cradles to place themselves in static equilibrium like the plates of a balance, while dynamic equilibrium results from the free movement of the support points. oscillating with the cradles, which causes the acceleration of the masses of the cradles to vary in inverse proportion to their weight.
The invention further provides for making the mutual spacing of the fulcrum points of the transmission levers adjustable, in order to vary the vertical and horizontal components of the movement of the cradles and thus to adjust the advance. - ment and saltation of materials on the screens to obtain the most favorable screening performance.
The description of the appended drawing, showing by way of example two embodiments of the invention, will make it clear how the latter can be achieved in its application to shaking screens.
Fig. 1 schematically represents a sieve with two oscillating cradles arranged side by side, and
Fig. 2 is a similar view of a screen with superimposed cradles.
We will first describe the screen of FIG. l, whose cradles are assumed to be loaded with the same weight and in balance. The cradles a, a 'are suspended by connecting rods
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
at the fixed points b, b ', so as to be able to oscillate while approaching and moving away alternately from one another.
This movement is positively imparted to them by the bent shaft c with double crank, by means of transmissions comprising for each cradle a lever with two arms d or connected to the shaft c by a connecting rod e or e 'and to the cradle by a connecting rod f or f '.
The support points g, and g 'of the levers d and d' are located on a carriage h movable horizontally between fixed guides!, Which makes these points g ,, g 'freely and integrally movable in accordance with the invention.
At rest, if the cradle a 'for example is more heavily loaded than the cradle a, it will descend relative to the position shown, by exerting through the rod f' a traction on the lever of which, by pivoting around its articulation to the connecting rod e ', will move the fulcrum g' back to the left with the balancing carriage h.
As a result, the fulcrum g of the lever d will also be moved to the left, which will have the effect of lifting the cradle a by means of the lever d pivoting around its articulation to the connecting rod e, and of the connecting rod f working in traction. This effect is similar to that of a swing and will continue until, with the lever arm of cradle a 'decreasing and that of cradle a increasing, both cradles come to rest in static equilibrium. Of course, the state of equilibrium can be achieved by combining the action of gravity with that of a spring, compressed fluid or any elastic material. This would be the case, for example, if the cradles a, a 'were mounted on springs instead of being suspended by connecting rods at points b, b'.
On the move, if the cradles a, a 'are unevenly
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
loaded, the balancing carriage h will be driven by the heaviest cradle a 'sometimes to the left, sometimes to the right depending on the direction in which this cradle oscillates. It can easily be seen that the displacement of the balancing carriage will have the effect of reducing the absolute value of the acceleration of the large mass of the cradle a 'and of increasing that of the acceleration of the small mass of the cradle a :. As the balancing carriage is free, the two horizontal resultants applied to g and g 'must necessarily be equal. They will therefore cancel each other out and no shock will be transmitted to the frame of the device.
In the balancing carriage h is interposed a nut with reverse threads which makes it possible to increase or decrease the length of the carriage, therefore to move aside or bring together the support points and g 'at will. The change in inclination of the levers d and d 'which results from it obviously varies the trajectory of the cradles a and a', the horizontal and vertical components of which can thus be adjusted so as to modify in the direction most favorable to the performance of the apparatus the ratio between the advancement and saltation of the materials to be screened on the cradles.
The apparatus shown in FIG. 2 does not differ from that of FIG. 1 only by the arrangement of the cradles a, a 'which are here superimposed, and the replacement of the balancing carriage with rectilinear movement by the upper element h of a deformable parallelogram comprising the two connecting rods k, k' articulated at 1, the to the frame of the device. The arrows indicate the path of the materials to be screened brought by a conveyor m onto the cradle a from where the screened products fall into a box n which leads them to the head of the cradle a 'to be classified by the latter. The refusal of the two screens falls
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
in the o and p chutes, respectively.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the forms and details of execution described by way of example, and devices other than a carriage or a deformable parallelogram can be used as a balancing device, without departing from its frame. Likewise, it is applicable to devices other than shaking screens, for example oscillating transport corridors and, in general, to any device comprising two masses with opposite oscillating movements, with or without material transport. .
