REVENDICATIONS.

The present invention relates to an improvement of a weighing apparatus comprising a balance lever on which acts on the one hand the load to be weighed in one of the directions of rotation of said lever and on the other hand a counter. weight, a stretched spring or the like in the other direction of rotation of this lever.
In weighing devices of this type known hitherto, it is necessary, in order to achieve a balancing of the balance lever, that a counterweight moves along this lever. The displacement of the counterweight is, in these cases, proportional to the variation of the weighing load. The sliding of the counterweight on the balance lever can be automatic by means of a servo-motor and possibly be braked when the lever has reached equilibrium.
Weighing devices equipped with a sliding counterweight, however, have the disadvantage that, for the rapid establishment of the balance of the balance lever, it is necessary for the counterweight to move over a certain path which is all the greater as the counterweight is lighter. However, with each displacement of the counterweight, acceleration or deceleration forces appear, giving the counter-pod a tendency to exceed its equilibrium position and to oscillate around this position, so that it does not comes to a standstill only after a certain time To avoid this part of time, we have to reduce the speed of movement of the counterweight, but then a longer period is required to reach the state of balance of the balance lever.
The object of the invention is to eliminate this drawback in that, instead of moving a counterweight, a relatively light transmission member transmitting to the balance lever the force of a counterweight, a tensioned spring or the like can move easily and without the occurrence of troublesome acceleration forces along the balance lever.
For this purpose, the transmission member, undergoing the force of the counterweight or the spring, should be able to transmit in each of its positions to the balance lever the same drill equal to the weight of the counterweight or to the tension of the spring or in constant relation to them The force necessary for the displacement of the transmission member must not be supplied by the imbalance of the balance lever but by an external force having no influence on the balance of this lever
The accompanying drawings schematically show three embodiments of a weighing apparatus according to the invention.
Figo 1 is an elevational view of an embodiment in which the counterweight bears directly on the sliding transmission member.
Figo 2 is a side view of another embodiment where the counterweight presses on the transmission member by means of a set of levers.
Figo 3 shows a cross section of the device of fig. 2 along line III-III of fig 1.
Fig.4 shows in perspective a construotion where the counterweight is suspended from a pivoting lever by pressing on the transmission member.
In the drawings ref. 1 shows the balance lever, ref. 2 the point of articulation and the ref. 3 the rod from which the load to be weighed is suspended.
In the execution according to fig. 1 the counterweight 4 is part of the vertical rod 5 which ends at its lower part with a horizontal guide part 6.
The vertical rod 5 forms one of the sides of the articulated parallelogram, the two other horizontal sides of which are formed by arms 7 rotating on the fixed pivots 8. It is clear that in this mode of suspension of the counterweight 4 the guide piece 6 is moves along a path strictly parallel to it-

even.
'Between the guide piece 6 and the balance lever 1 there is a carriage 9 which functions as a transmission member and rolls by means of the rollers 10 along the guide piece 6 and the corresponding rollers 11 on the lever. 1. To the carriage 9 is fixed a rod 12 in the form of a rack 13, the teeth of which are located at the lower part and entering on the pinion 140 The pinion 14 serves to drive the carriage 9 and its rotation can be caused by a force not supplied directly by the imbalance of the balance lever, but ¯ by an external force. At each position of the carriage 9, the latter transmits the force of the counterweight to the balance lever.
For this purpose the primitive line dice. the rack 13 must intersect the axis of rotation 2 of the balance lever in order to prevent the force exerted for the movement of the carriage from exerting a moment on this lever and therefore from having an influence on its balance.
In the construction according to Figures 2 and 3 the counterweight 4 is fixed to the pivoting lever 16 at a fixed point 15. To the lever 16 is connected, via the rod 17, a lever 18 rotating in a fixed point 19. At point 21 of lever 16 is hooked a rod 20 which, at its other end is suspended at a point 22 from the lever 18 by means of the rod 35. The bent rod 20, in its upward and downward movements, remaining strictly parallel to itself, forms a guide piece for the roller 23 (fig. 3) mounted on the axis 24 supported on both sides by the rollers 25.
The rollers 25 roll on the balance lever-1 and together with the roller 23 constitute the transmission member of the counterweight 4, so that the axis 24 of these rollers are secured, in this case, the two arms rack 12, the teeth of which mesh with those of the drive pinion 14. In this construction, the load to be weighed is not directly suspended from the balance lever but from the lever 26 which swivels on one side in a fixed point 27 and being connected on the other side to the balance lever by the intermediary of the rod 28.
In the execution according to fig. 4, the counterweight 4 is suspended from a lever 29 by means of a spring 30. The axis 31 of the lever 29 rotates in the supports 32, while the lower face of this lever forms a guide piece. of the carriage 9 serving as a transmission member to the counterweight, the carriage itself being connected to the rack 12. The counterweight 4 is provided with a damper 33 located in the cylinder 34 filled with a damping liquid vertical movements of the counterweight.
Although in the examples described the transmission member 9 or 23- 25 moves along a horizontal path, it can very well be imagined that this movement takes place along an inclined or even vertical path. The constant counter force acting on the balance lever instead of being in the form of a counterweight, can. very well be achieved by the tension of a spring which can be easily adjusted. As another source of frictionless force one can also imagine a gas shock absorber, a diaphragm box, a float or a solenoid.
