 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   Des agents dispersifs de ce genre sont par exemple les acides sulfoniques des amidines cycliques décrites au brevet français No.754.626 du 22 avril 1933 et à la demande de brevet français numéro provisoire 369.804 du 4 juin 1934   pour :   "Nouveaux agents auxiliaires pour l'industrie textile" de la demanderesse et les mélanges de ces produits;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

     DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY in support of a request for "PROCESS FOR SLOWING THE ABSORPTION OF DYES BY
FIBERS"
The Applicant has found that the dispersive agents which contain, on the one hand, at least one basic nitrogen atom and at least one sulfonic group bonded to an atom of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 carbon or to an oxygen atom, and on the other hand an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical with at least 8 carbon atoms, a radical which may be intersected by bridge bonds of oxygen, sulfur or nitrogen, have in general, the ability to slow the absorption of dyes by the fibers.

   Dispersive agents of this type are for example the sulphonic acids of cyclic amidines described in French patent No. 754,626 of April 22, 1933 and in French patent application number 369,804 of June 4, 1934 for: "New auxiliary agents for industry textile "from the applicant and mixtures of these products;

   further compounds such as cetylanilinesulfonic acid, cetylmethylanilinesulfonic acid, sulfonated quaternary adduct of dimethyl sulfate to methylketylaniline, sulfonic acid of benzylmethyldodecylamine, sulfonated dodecyl ether of dimethyl- or diethyl -m- or p-aminophenol, cetylmethylaminoethanesulfonic acid, sulfuric ester of oxyethylmethylketylamine, sulfonic acid of the adduct of benzyl chloride to stearoyldiethylethylenediamine or to dimethylaminoethylhexadecylic ether or also to thioether dimethylaminoethylhexadecyl, etc.

   When water-soluble compounds of this kind are added to dye baths, there is a marked slowing down of the absorption of dyes by the fibers, which in many cases results in, especially for dyes. which otherwise quickly rise on the fiber, a notable improvement in the unison of the shades obtained.

  This effect, of great practical importance, can be observed, for example, for the tank dyes of the anthraquinone series which draw rapidly, and then for other dyes at the bottom.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 tank and sulfur. A similar effect is observed with basic dyes when dyeing cotton treated with tannin or otherwise etched beforehand, then with acid dyes which draw quickly, for example with solid dyes using a fuller, dyes which must be dyed in an acid bath. acetic.

   The improvement in leveling power therefore does not only occur with dyes intended for dyeing fibers containing cellulose such as cotton, artificial silk from regenerated cellulose, hemp, ramie, etc., but also with dyes used for dyeing animal fibers such as wool or silk. The slowing down of the absorption of the dyes also causes an increase in the stripping power exerted by the alkaline reducing baths on vat dyes of dyes.

   While several colorants in the tank are only barely dismantled by the alkaline reducing baths, by adding to these baths the compounds which come into play here we obtain an advanced dismantling of the shades, which makes it possible for example to improve the unison of uneven shades obtained with dyes of this kind.

   The following examples illustrate the present invention without however limiting it.

     Example 1
To a dye bath which contains 0.5% of trichlorisodibenzanthrone placed in a tank in the usual manner in an alkaline hydrosulphite bath, 0.25 g of the sulphonated cyclic amidine is added, which is obtained by sulphonating the N-. methyl- -heptadecylbenzimidazol. The absorption of the dye is notably slowed down and a more even and better defined shade is thus obtained than without the addition of the indicated agent.

   Example 2
Uneven shade obtained with 1.5% Cibanone Blue

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 3G (cf. Schultz, Farbstofftabellen, No. 1279) is treated for 1/2 hour at 60 in a bath containing 16 cc per liter. of an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide at 35 Bé and 2 g of sodium hydrosulfite. By adding 1 g per liter of the sulphonated cyclic amidine obtained by sulphonating the mixture of N-methylated imidazols prepared from phenylenediamine and hydrogenated cod liver oil, reabsorption of the reduced dye, removed, is slowed down, so that a shade of beautiful unison is obtained. This product can also be used for the removal of colorants in the vat.

   Example
A piece of macco dyed with 0.5% Cibanone Blue GCD (cf. Schultz, Farbstofftabellen, 7th edition, No. 1234), unsuitable for making shirts due to its uneven edges, is treated in the jigger for + hour at 60 with a solution containing per liter 15 cc. of an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide at 36o Bé, 5 g of sodium hydrosulphite and 0.2 g of the sulphonation product of a mixture
 EMI4.1
 formed of 25; b of N-methyl7, & - heptaclecylbenzimidazol and z of N-N-methyl-ethyl-, 4 ,, - heptadecylbenzimidazolium chloride.

   In this way, we obtain a piece dyed with a very even shade from beginning to end, which can be used without further ado in making.

   Example 4
A padding bath is prepared with 50 g of Violet Cibanone 2R in double paste (cf. Schultz, Farbstofftabellen, 7th edition, 1931, No. 1265) and 5 g of the sulfonation product.
 EMI4.2
 of a mixture formed from 2596 of N-methyl-ft-heptadecylbenz1midazol and 7596 of N.N methyl-ethyl c-heptadecylbenzimidazolium chloride.

   A linen fabric is passed through this bath several times

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 and compressed after each passage between cylinders. Then the shade is developed in the jigger by treating the fabric at 609 in a bath containing 16 cc per liter. of a 36o Bé sodium hydroxide solution and 2 g of sodium hydrosulphite.

   The shade of the fabric dyed in this way is even and well defined.

   Example 5
To dye 100 kg of wool in a fluff, a dye bath is prepared with approximately 1000 liters of water at 55.500 g of glue, 500 oc. ammonia (d = 0.90), 300 g of sodium hydrosulphite, 500 g of the sodium salt of sulphonated N-methyl- - heptadecylbenzimidazol. Then 2.5 kg of Ciba Blue 2B (cf. Schultz, Farbstofftabellen, 7th edition, 1931, No. 1314) are added to the bath, which are previously vatted in the usual manner.

   The addition of the sulfonated benzimidazole derivative results in a slow absorption of the dye, so that all the wool has a well-even shade.

   Example 6
When 0.2 g of the sodium salt of the sulfonation product of N-methyl-N-benzyl- -heptadecyl- benzimidazolium chloride is added per liter of bath to a dye bath which contains 0.5% of Violet Cibanone 2R ( cf. Schultz, Farbstofftabellen, 7th edition, 1931, No. 1265) or 0.5% Cibanone Blue 3G (cf. Schultz, Farbstofftabellen, 7th edition, 1931, No. 1279) tanked in the normal way , for the dyeing of mercerized pearl yarn, the dye draws notably slower than without this addition; a more even and better defined shade is thus obtained.

   Example
Cotton pieces are dyed on the jigger in an alkaline sodium hydrosulfite bath with 0.5% Violet Cibanone

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 2R (cf. Schultz, Farbstofftabellen, 7th edition, 1931, No. 1265) by adding per liter of bath 0.5 g of the sodium salt of the sulfonation product prepared from the quaternary methyl sulfate of hexadecyl-phenyl-dimethylammonium. A much more even shade is obtained than without this addition.

   A similar effect is obtained when, instead of the above-mentioned addition, 1 g of the sodium salt of sulfonated methyl-hexadecyl-aniline or 2 g of the sodium salt of sulfonated hexadecylaniline is added per liter of bath.

   Example 8
A cotton fabric for work clothes is dyed with 20% Indigo Pyrogen (cf. Schultz, Farbstofftabellen, 7th edition, 1931, No. 1110) in a bath which contains 0.3 g of the salt.
 EMI6.1
 sodium of N-methyl- / 6-heptadecylbenzimidazolsulphonic acid per liter, alongside the other usual adjuvants.

   This addition results in a significantly slower absorption of the dye; the shade is therefore more even and better defined and does not have the tendency to tan.

   Example 9
A cotton fabric is dyed with 2.5% Direct Dark Green S (cf. Schultz, Farbstofftabellen, 7th Edition, 1931, No. 670) with the addition of 1% sulfonated -heptadecylbenzimidazol sodium salt, entering at 60 with the goods to be dyed, bringing to the boil in 20 minutes and dyeing for 3/4 of an hour at the boil. It is found that the dye pulls more slowly than without this addition, which gives shades of better unison.

   Example 10
For the dyeing of tight felt after preliminary crushing with sulfuric acid, it is first necessary to completely neutralize the felt to avoid that the shade is not well defined.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

   However, when adding to a dye bath containing 8% HA Acid Black (cf. Schultz, Farbstofftabellen, 7th Edition, 1931, No. 299), 2% of the sodium salt of the disulfonic acid of N-benzylated -heptadecylbenzimidazol , the dye draws more slowly and dyes better through and through than without this addition.

   This avoids the neutralization operation which, in the case of felts, takes a lot of time.

   Resell! Cation.
