 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

    REVENDICATIONS.

  "Monitoring device for condensing water traps".

   Condensation water traps, in particular or with moving parts or parts, frequently fail as a result of fouling, because the moving parts remain suspended, because the ooturation organs become inétanohes eto .. As a result of These disturbances resulted in stagnation of the oondensate, water bursts and above all permanent steam losses. For this reason, constant monitoring of the oonden tion water traps or separators is absolutely necessary.

   However, since the disturbances are not visible in the closed trap enclosure, most often they are not noticed, especially an opening of the. trap for the purpose of examining the interior parts is very inconvenient and time consuming, and this work can only be done after stopping the flow of steam.

   We have already tried to make surveillance possible

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 of the operation of condensate water traps by mounting in the oondensate flow line, behind the trap, window glasses, tubes or the like - through which m the escaping condensate can be observed. However, in practice these observation glasses were not intended for their purpose, since the vapor does not flow into them, separated from the oondensate, but is mixed and swirled with the latter. In the glass or window of these devices, therefore, can only see a swirling current of mixture. It is not possible to verify whether or not steam is contained therein.

   In addition, it cannot be recognized whether a lot or little steam is escaping. But even if it was possible, with the help of these observation glasses, to distinguish whether steam is escaping with the oondensate, this observation would however not allow any conclusion as to the faultless operation of the trap. The oondensate, which flows out of the trap, is greatly overheated, given that it is under high pressure in the trap. If this condensate at a temperature of 160, for example, escapes from the trap to the atmosphere or to the discharge line, which is at a lower pressure, it expands almost or entirely to atmospheric pressure.

   However, at atmospheric pressure, according to the natural laws of physics, a water temperature of 160 is completely impossible. It can be a maximum of 100. For this reason, the expanded condensate vaporizes until it has cooled to 160 to 100 by development of the heat of evaporation. A large quantity of vapor from the latter is therefore formed in the oondensate discharge pipe. Obviously, the vapor which thus emerges from the condensate does not have a different appearance from that of the vapor which arrives in the condensate line by direct escape of fresh vapor.

   Therefore, it is also impossible to check

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 proud through known viewing glasses, if direct fresh fear escapes, or if steam has escaped from the condensate.

     These fundamental defects of the naked embodiments are eliminated according to the invention, thanks to the fact that the observation valve is not mounted behind the trap in 1 discharge pipe, but before the trap in the supply pipe and that the viewing glass itself is designed according to the invention in such a way that a very clear separation of the steam and the water takes place.

   In accordance with the arrangement according to the invention, the observation glass and the casing of the survivor device receive dimensions sufficient for them to be r. tent to the full working pressure of the trap. The dispc according to the invention has the consequence that only the real vapor is visible, because the vapor formed from the oondensate, - only emerges behind the trap during the expansion of the oondensate, and is therefore not yet present in the observation glass placed before the trap.

   The monitoring device according to the invention therefore allows a clear and clear s vaillance of the condensate water trap. The mistakes linked to the observation glasses placed up behind the trap are therefore completely avoided, especially as the embodiment according to the The invention, as hereinafter described, effects a clean separation of steam and water.

   FIG. 1 represents an exemplary embodiment of the idea of the invention. The condensate flows, together with the escaping steam, through the pipe a into the casing / 9 monitoring device, which is connected by the pipe g to the inlet pipe of the condensation water trap.

  The separation of the vapor stream from the oondensate current is carried out according to the invention by a guide bead c, where the lower edge arrives below the sole (part

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 inside) of the inlet and outlet tubes a, g and advances into a trough d. The condensate, which flows towards the trap, therefore first fills the trough d and can only continue further towards the trap when the trough is filled to the level of the sole of the pipes a, g. However, the body of water f is then so high that the direction bead c soaks in the water below the body of water.

   By this conformation according to the invention of the passage channel, it is obtained that the trough d, as long as no steam escapes, is always completely filled with water up to the steering bead, independently of the that it passes a lot, little or no condensate. In the observation glass e, which is mounted on a cutout in the wall of the trough d, we therefore see water along the entire length of the observation glass between
 EMI4.1
 a2 fb- the lower edge of the director bead o and the bottom iân lJ10a '& te d, as long as only oondensate passes. However, as soon as steam flows into the trap, the view immediately changes in an essential way.

   Steam should also pass below the guide bead a. Since its specific weight is much less than that of water, it passes through the top. The steam therefore presses the water plane downwards, and this Ci 'as much stronger as the quantity of steam which passes is greater (fig. 2) The lowering of the water plane f can be clearly observed in the glass or viewing window e. In certain cases, it is also possible to use a wrinkled or striated glass, which, by reflex, ensures particularly clear visibility of the water level.

   However, by the configuration according to the invention, it is not only possible to clearly see the fact that the vapor escapes, but it is also possible to evaluate, at the same time, the quantity of vapor which passes, given that the hovel in which - the water level is lowered, is at the same time a measure of the quantity of steam which passes.

   According to the invention, the size of the cross section

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 of the monitoring device and the shape of the latter feels such that steam and water will flow through it without any vortex, in laminar form. Therefore, there is no swirl mixing. It is also important that the vape @ calm is not co-indicated (fig. 1), but only the vape in motion, so that in fact only the vapor which escaped from the trap is visible and therefore enters. line of con corm loss.

   According to the invention, above the director bead 0 there is also a diverting channel (FIG. 3), through which a certain quantity of vapor can escape without being visible in the observation glass. In this way, insignificant small losses (for example by radiation of heat from the trap etc.) which are usually inevitable do not give rise to unnecessary overhaul of the trap.

   Another exemplary embodiment of the invention is shown in FIG. 4.

   The body of water displaced by the steam is located in a tubular body k which is made of glass or is provided with a transparent window. The oondensate enters again at a in the envelope b and at g in the trap h. The entry of condensate or water vapor into the tubular body k is through an opening i, the outlet through a long slit 1 in the outlet tube. As long as there is no steam, the condensate is at the highest point in the tubular body k (fig 4). But as soon as steam comes out with the condensate, it expands upwards, so that a vapor cushion forms in the dome of the tubular body.

   Since the steam can only escape through the narrow slit, it presses 1 body of water f downwards (fig. 5) more or less strongly depending on the quantity of steam.
Exactly as in the exemplary embodiment according to f: 1 to 3, a lowering of the water level therefore means a passing of steam. Further according to the amplitude of the lowering of the plane d

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 the quantity of steam escaping can again be assessed.

  However, in this embodiment one can still further observe the direct ascent of the vapor in the form of bubbles, since the vapor bubbles must first rise through the layer of water which is present. above the inlet opening i.
