 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

  DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY filed in support of an application for a "Paper bag" PATENT OF INVENTION.

   The object of the present invention is an improvement in the manufacture of valve paper bags used especially for the packaging of fine-grained or powdery materials such as for example cement, plaster, lime in pou @ r and similar subjects.

   As is well known, the valve plays an important role in bags of this kind; usually. this valve is located at one end of the bag and when the bag is full it serves to prevent the contents of the bag from escaping per. Until now, various arrangements have been made for the application of this valve; these gave results

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 quite satisfactory as regards the obturation. However, these methods of manufacturing valve paper bags of this kind have, despite everything, the drawback of considerably increasing the manufacturing costs.

   With the help of the present invention, a very economical and very advantageous production of paper bags is achieved, the soapape of which, in addition to its simplicity and without any addition, has the property of ensuring an absolutely secure closure and of preventing the material of the bag to escape: then, this valve has sufficient elasticity with regard to its possibilities of expansion, so that, when filling the bag, there is no danger that the valve during its replacement on the tube, for the discharge of the material in the bag, does not tear.

   An embodiment of the bag according to the intention is represented by the accompanying drawing.

   Figure 1 shows a fragment, cut at right angles, of the paper tube used to make the bag; according to the invention, its edges are folded; Figure 2 shows the bag in the completed state; Figure 3 is a sectional view of the tube of the bag according to Figure 1; FIG. 4 shows how the end of the bag where the filling valve is to be placed is shaped; Figure 5 shows how the valve expands when the bag is slid over the filling tube; FIG. 6 shows the mode of formation of the other corners; Figure 7 is a partial longitudinal section of the sewn and completed bag.

   As shown in Figures 1 and 3, the paper tube 1 has, in pins of the folded edges 2, according to the known method, and which thunder by themselves as a result of the flattening of the bag, two folded edges @@ 3 symmetrical on both sides of the edge 2. This formation of the folded edges 3 causes the formation of the folded edges 4; distance between edges

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 will, that is to say according to the possibility of expansion of the valve that will be formed afterwards, which is desired.

  When we have finished making the tube with the folded edges mentioned, we move on to forming the valve and the other corners of the bag. To form the valve, we fold a corner of the tube cut at right angles along line 5 so that after folding the edge 2 does not form with its part not folded 2 '/ a right angle, but an obtuse angle; This is done so that after sewing the bag the edge of the valve 2 'is longer than the unstitched part of the twice folded edge 5 which forms the valve opening. After having folded the corner of the tube on the edge 5, the corner is straightened and then the edge 2 'is inserted between the walls 6. This is not shown by the drawing because it is not necessary, being given that this is self-explanatory.

   We now have a double edge 5 and the edges 3 'are thus facing each other, whereas they were previously separated by the edge 2 and now the edges 4' are separated by the edge 2 '.

  The preparation of the valve is thus finished and the edges 7 are covered with the strip 9, the section of which has the shape of the letter M and is sewn on the line 10. So that the folded middle part 11 of the strip 9 can adapt sufficiently to the neighboring corner, we cut the folded edge 2 "to a sufficient depth. To close the lower part 8 of the bag, we use narrower edges 12 which have the same shape as that of the strips 9 ; but the edges 2 "are not cut because the middle parts 11 of this strip only reach to the corner 13.

   The endowment of the valve is clearly shown in figure 5. The magnitude of the expansion of the valve is equal to twice the respective spacing of the folded edges 3 and 4.
