 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

   DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY in support of a request for
PATENT OF INVENTION A method of manufacturing a rubberized fibrous material.

   The object of the invention is a process for the manufacture of a rubberized material which consists in that two dry or more or less wet strips of a long-fiber material and absorbent, such as a material made of fibers. cotton, or other animal or vegetable textiles, are first of all, in a manner known per se, coated on one side with a concentrated rubber milk, the coated sides are brought together under the pressure of rollers, after which one proceeds to a drying until a film forms, then sprayed on the product, successively on both sides, rubber milk suitably diluted and added with sulfur or other anti-aging or vulcanizing agents, so as to reflect a uniform impregnation , more or less strong,

   vulcanization

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 being obtained during the drying which follows.

   The rubberized fibrous material thus obtained exhibits high elasticity and high tear resistance. The mass Can be completely impregnated and the fibers perfectly coated; the material can be manufactured in any thickness, by the fact that one will choose as basic material a fibrous material of a corresponding strength, or else by the fact that one will glue by pressure several bands or plates of finished rubberized fibrous materials and made by the present process. Further, the rubberized fibrous material may be glued on one or both sides and coated with a web of fabric. It is also possible by printing to give it any desired surface.

   The drawing shows schematically and by way of example how to practice the method of the invention.

   The raw material used is a preferably long-fiber absorbent material, for example a cotton fiber material or a web of any textile fibers.

  It is not possible to envisage a simple impregnation of this fibrous material by means of rubber milk, given that on the one hand, the impregnated fibrous material no longer has the necessary tear resistance, allowing it to be carried on the drying cylinders, and because on the other hand, the rubberized material would stick to the hot drying rolls. According to the present process, two bands of fibrous material are glued one on the other by interposing between their faces a layer of impermeable rubber, then the assembled band is then separately impregnated on its two anti-aging faces or with a rubber milk, with the addition of a vulcanizing agent, followed by drying.

   Thanks to the interposition of the rubber film, the band of fibrous material acquires the necessary resistance to tearing, and this interposition

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 opposes the tacky liquid placed on the opposite face during coating through the strip, so that the latter can be guided on the drying cylinders while still bearing on them by a dry surface.

   First, two strips of material and b are joined to each other by means of a layer of rubber.

  This is carried out in a known manner in that the strips a and b are coated on one side only, by means of coating cylinders c and d, with a thin layer of highly concentrated rubber milk, after which the sides coatings are brought together and glued under the action of the pressure rollers e and f. The band of fibrous material a, b thus obtained is then carried on lescylindresde drying g. Due to the drying, an impermeable rubber film is formed between the bands a and b. The band of fibrous material designated in ab, thus treated, acquires on the one hand, by the interposition of the film of rubber, the strength which is necessary for further processing.

   On the other hand, the bands a and b can be subjected successively to further processing, one of the bands remaining dried while the other is subjected to impregnation. After leaving the drying cylinder designated in g, the band ab passes through one of its faces that is to say, according to the drawing, through the original band b, on the projection roller h which rotates in the tank i at a circumferential speed greater than that of the movement of the strip. In the tank i there is, depending on the destination of the finished band of rubberized fibrous material, diluted rubber milk with the addition of sulfur, or anti-aging or vulcanizing agents.

   Due to the rotation of the projection roller h, given the high absorption capacity of the fibrous material, an impregnation

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 complete and uniform of the strip b, the rubber layer opposing the rubber milk to pass through to, the strip a, so that the strip a, b, leaving the projection roller h, can be guided by its dry side a on the drying cylinder k, This drying roller k is brought to a temperature of 120 to 140 C, so that at the same time as the drying, the vulcanization is carried out.

   After leaving the last drying cylinder k, the strip a, b is completely dry again, and is then guided in the opposite direction, side a of the strip passing over the projection roller h1 to be coated in the same way as above described. After leaving the last drying cylinder kl the band of fibrous material is rubberized on its two thicknesses a and b; the rubberized fibrous material thus obtained is then conveyed to the rewinder receiving device m. the thickness of the rubberized fibrous material to be manufactured can be determined in two ways. On the one hand, the two bands of fibrous materials a and b can be chosen of sufficient and uniform thickness, in order to obtain the desired thickness for the finished product.

   On the other hand, we can bring together Places or several rubberized fibrous bands, assembled by simple pressure.

   The rubberized fibrous material can be given any color, using dyed fibrous material, and adding color to the impregnation mass.
