<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"Mode of protection against glare from vehicle headlights".
Most road accidents are due, at night, to the glare effects produced by the headlights of vehicles, mainly automobiles, which pass each other on the road. In the event that the main beam headlights remain on during the crossing, the driver of the car coming in the opposite direction is strongly dazzled by the light and can no longer see the obstacles that may be on the road in front of the car. cross and a fortiori, those beyond.
In these circumstances, he must either switch on his main beam headlights as well, or slow down sharply during the crossing.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Assuming that the main beam headlights are replaced by the low beam headlights, the glare is less, but still sufficient to prevent the view for a sufficient distance in front of each Roof, since the power of the low beam is insufficient for the road to be traveled.
The aim of the present invention is to absolutely eliminate the harmful effects of glare. On the contrary, each car illuminates a part of the road so killed laterally on the area to be covered by the other car. the invention therefore consists mainly in placing, apart from the current headlights, comprising the main beam headlights, the low beam headlights and the town headlights, other sources of lighting mounted on the left side of each car at the height of the apron and whose rays are directed backwards.
In this way, despite the presence of the current headlights, the driver of the opposite car has no difficulty in distinguishing the obstacles in his way, thanks to the lighting of any object possibly on the road by the side headlight of the car to c roiser. Berne in the absence of any obstacle in the way, the crossing is greatly facilitated. by the fact that each of the cars sufficiently illuminates the way. of its competitor.
The crossing of cars can thus be done without any danger, without slowing down the speed and with particular efforts on the part of the driver.
According to a preferred arrangement of the invention, the side headlight constituting the main object of this invention operates automatically, that is to say that it lights up when the front headlights are lowered by the action of switches.
The inventive idea is shown schematically in the accompanying drawing, in which 1 and 2 represent the borders of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the road, while 3 and 4 show in plan the cars which come in the opposite direction and which will cross.
The side headlight 5, mounted on each car on the left and at a suitable height, is mounted in such a way that the rays illuminate the car, the road and any objects which are possibly on it following a light beam 6, directed backwards.
It is obvious that the side headlight in question can have any construction suitable for the stated purpose, without departing from the object of the invention.
In particular, one can provide a monochromatic light (yellow for example) to increase visibility.
Likewise, instead of having the so-called side headlight on the left side of the car, it is possible, in certain cases, to mount it on the rear part of the body or any other part of the car, allowing use in conditions indicated.
CLAIMS. l.- Mode of protection against the dazzling of the headlights of vehicles crossing on the road, characterized by the fact that we have on these vehicles and preferably on the left side, a light source, which projects an illuminating beam towards the rear of the car and sideways, so as to illuminate the road to be covered by the opposite car, and any obstacles which may be found on part of the route.
