MACHINE PERFECTIONNEE A FABRIQUER AUTOMATIQUEMENT LES
TALONS DE BOTTINES DE DAMES.
-------------------------------------------------------

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
A son extrémité droite,le chariot 3 butter fin de course contre une saillie 53 (Fig.I) prévue à une extrémité d'un levier oscillant 54,dont l'autre extrémité soulève alors une broche 55,de manière à la dégager d'une gorge 56 prévue entre un manchon d'accouplement à griffes 59 et un manchon 60 pourvu d'une rampe 61 située du côté de la gorge 56.Les manchons 59 et 60 sont montés sur un arbre 57 (Fig.I et 5) porté par des paliers 58 sous le bâti de la machine.Le manchon 60 est soumis à la pression d'un ressort 62 enroulé autour de l' arbre 57;
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

PERFECTED MACHINE TO AUTOMATICALLY MANUFACTURE THE
LADIES BOOT HEELS.
-------------------------------------------------- -----
Machines are known for making the heels of ladies' ankle boots comprising a movable carriage on which can oscillate vertically an arm carrying at its anterior part a disc intended to follow the contour of a heel-model and a cutter, which in its movement of rotation, shapes a wooden block, as in reproduction machines, following the movements of the aforementioned disc.
In these known machines, various maneuvers are performed by hand, such as lifting the swinging arm to the end of its travel and returning it to the starting position, loosening the finished bead, etc., The efficiency of the machine would obviously be considerably increased, if these operations were made automatic, and moreover it would be possible to serve a greater number of identical machines by a single person.
The object of the invention consists precisely in a machine of this kind in which all these operations are carried out automatically by means of control mechanisms.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
simple construction and smooth operation.
The drawing appended to this specification shows by way of example an improved machine for manufacturing the heels of ladies' ankle boots.
Fig.I is a front elevational view of the machine.
Fig.2 and 3 are side elevation views as well.
Fig.4 is a cross section through the carriage.
Fig.5 is a plan view of the camshaft controlling various movements of the machine.
On a frame I is fixed at the rear a slide 2 which can slide a carriage 3 carrying a horizontal axis &.
Around the latter, pivots an oscillating arm 5, of known construction, having the shape of a fork, one of the branches carrying a fixed metal disc 6, while in the other branch can rotate an axis 7 on which is wedged the working milling cutter 8. This receives its movement from a pulley 9, wedged on the axis 7 and joined by a belt 10 to a second pulley II, connected by a belt I2 to a third pulley 14 mounted on the 'motor shaft 15, itself dependent on a suitable transmission. One of the branches of the arm 5 ends at the front with a handle 13, which is used to lift the arm only when the operation of the machine is not to be automatic.
At the front of the frame I, are fixed two supports 16 and 17.
The left support 16 is crossed by a hollow shaft 18 terminated on the outside of the support by coupling claws 19 capable of engaging with corresponding claws carried by a head 20 terminating a shaft 21 disposed inside the hollow shaft. 18.
For the execution of various operations, transmission mechanisms are used, which in general are constituted and represented here by chain mechanisms. I1 is obvious that these can be replaced by boxes with pestles.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
On the hollow shaft 18 is wedged a toothed wheel 22 traversed by a chain 23 embracing a wheel 24 wedged on an axis 25 carried in baskets 26 of the frame 1. On the axis 25 is also wedged a pulley 27 driven by l 'motor shaft 15 via belt 28,
On the other hand, the shaft 21 is integral with the model or heel reproducer 29 on which the disc 6 of the oscillating arm 5 rests during the work of the machine. On the side opposite to the shaft 21, the reproducer wears a crown movable 30 provided with spikes intended to penetrate into the wooden block 31 out of which the heel will be shaped. This block is held on the other hand by a tailstock 32 movable in the right support 17. Inside the latter ,
the tailstock 32 is integral with a rack with which engages a pinion 33 crossed by an axis 34 operable by a handle 35 * With the pinion 33 also engaged a second pinion 36 carried by a vertical pin 37 mounted at its base in a lever 38 to which is connected a spring 39 connected at a fixed point of the frame of the machine. and whose tension exceeds that of a spring 21 'wound around the shaft 21 inside the hollow shaft 18.
The position of the reproducer 29 is adjusted by a pin 40 fixed to a disc 41 integral with the inner shaft 21 and embraced by a groove 42 formed in a second disc 43 provided at the end of the inner shaft 21, carrying the reproducer. . A nut 44 serves to fix the spindle in the chosen position.
The longitudinal displacement of the carriage 3 on its gliasière is obtained by a transmission chain 45 engaged on the one hand with a toothed wheel 46 carried by a worm 47 meshing with a half-nut 48 (Fig. 4) integral with the carriage 3, and on the other hand with a toothed wheel 49 carried by the axis 50 of a toothed wheel 52 meshing with a corresponding toothing of the hollow shaft 18. The half-nut 48 pivots on the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
carriage 48a and is held pressed against the worm 47 by a spring rod 48b fixed to the carriage.
At its right end, the carriage 3 throws the end of its travel against a projection 53 (Fig.I) provided at one end of an oscillating lever 54, the other end of which then lifts a pin 55, so as to release it from a groove 56 provided between a claw coupling sleeve 59 and a sleeve 60 provided with a ramp 61 located on the side of the groove 56. The sleeves 59 and 60 are mounted on a shaft 57 (Fig.I and 5) carried by bearings 58 under the frame of the machine. The sleeve 60 is subjected to the pressure of a spring 62 wound around the shaft 57;
this spring tends to cause the engagement of the claw sleeve 59 with a second claw sleeve 63 carried by a shaft 64 concentric with the shaft 57 and actuated by a toothed wheel 65 connected by a chain 66 with a pinion mounted on the screw endless 47 of the carriage 3.
On the shaft 57 is also mounted a cam 66 provided with a ramp on which presses a spring 67 bearing on the other hand on the frame of the machine, This spring 67 tends to slightly move the axis 57 in order to facilitate the reciprocal release of the coupling sleeves 59 and 63.
By rotating, the shaft 57 drives in its movement a second cam 68, which acts on a pusher 69, the upper end of which then abuts against a part integral with the oscillating arm 5 and consequently lifts the latter. top, which is carried out at each end of travel of the carriage 3, the oscillating arm 5 abuts against a lever with two branches, which by its free end presses on a pusher 71 passing through the carriage 3 and resting on a lug integral with the half -nut 48. Under these conditions, at the end of travel of the carriage, the half-nut 48 is lowered and consequently the advancement of the carriage is stopped, which allows the latter to return to its starting position under the action a counterweight 72 or any other return member.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Finally on the shaft 57 (Fig.I and 5) is mounted a third cam 73, which in its rotational movement presses on a spring press 74, which in turn acts on the lever 38, which was discussed previously. .The lever 38 then rotates the axis 37, which, by the toothed wheels 36 and 35makes the rack of the tailstock 32 in motion to make it enter the support 17 and consequently free the terminated heel. 'shaft 57 continuing to rotate, the spindle 55 released from the action of the carriage 3 lowers under the action of a suitable spring, engages in the groove 56 and moves, thanks to the ramp 61,
the sleeve 60 to the right, causing the two coupling sleeves 59 and 63 to separate. The shaft 64 will then turn on its own while the shaft 57 will be immobilized. The machine parts are therefore ready for a new operation , a new block being brought to the machine by means of a suitable loader controlled by a cam 77 and returned by a spring 78 (Fig.5) and then introduced between the points.
The machine can be fed in blocks by one of the many known automatic feeding devices or by any other specially suitable system.
The operation of the machine is already sufficiently clear from the description of the organs which has just been given, it is thus easy to realize that a block, being clamped in the machine between the aontrepointe 32 and the dirty cart breeder will move to the right while the Breeze 8 shapes the heel. When the carriage has reached the end of its travel, that is to say when the heel is finished, the carriage hits the pivoting lever 57 which causes the coupling of the sleeves 59 and 63 and consequently the rotation of the shaft 57.The cam 68 mounted on this shaft causes the lifting of the oscillating arm 5, which in its movement forces the half-nut 48 of the worm 47 of the carriage to lower, which stops the advancement of carriage 3,
which returns to its starting point under the influence of the counterweight 72.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
Simultaneously the cam 73 also mounted on the shaft 57 causes the. release of the finished heel by causing the withdrawal of the tailstock 32 Soon the sleeves 59 and 63 are disengaged as a result of the action of the spindle 55 on the ramp of the cam 60 and the shaft 57 is disconnected from the shaft 64 , which rotates constantly. The cycle then begins again as before.
In the event of work stoppage due to organ or test breakage, it is necessary to prevent the cutter 8 from falling on the block; for this purpose, a stand 75 is provided which pivots at 76 on the oscillating arm. 5 and in the event of an accident, rests on an appropriate member of the carriage, keeping the arm 5 raised.
This crutch is normally kept in an inactive position by a suitable spring or any other equivalent member (Fig. 3)
It is of course understood that, in the mechanisms and devices described, it is possible to replace such and such a member with an equivalent part, ie fulfilling the same role.
