Suspension system for vehicles
The present invention relates to a suspension system for vehicles. This system is essentially characterized by the fact that the member carrying each wheel (rocket yoke, axle housing, etc.) is connected to the corresponding elastic member (spring, for example) by a second kind of lever; the connection .de the elastic member with this lever being produced between the point of articulation of the latter on the frame and the member carrying the wheel.
The single figure of the appended drawing shows * by way of example the application of the means forming the object of the present invention for the realization of the independent suspension of the two front wheels; of an auto vehicle

mobile.
As characterized in the foregoing, the suspension system consists in uniting the member carrying the wheel (knuckle cap, rear axle bearing, etc.) to the vehicle chassis by an angularly movable connecting rod; this connecting rod being, moreover, connected by handcuff for example, to the end of the elastic member which, on the other hand, bears on the frame to which it is subject. The point of application of the elastic resistance is therefore located between the fulcrum of the connecting rod on the chassis and the point of application of the reaction that the ground exerts on the corresponding wheel, in any case on the opposite side. of this, and whatever the kind of elastic organ used.
The connecting rod can therefore be likened to a lever of the second type which multiplies the angular displacements of its end corresponding to the wheel by transmitting them to the elastic compensating member. Like the reaction effort. nel of this elastic member borrows a much smaller lever arm than that at the end of which the disturbing force occurs, it is necessary to have returns to powerful compensating elastic members, which reduces their flexibility and thus avoids chassis oscillations which occur when using very flexible springs for example. The suspension, object of the invention, remains soft because of its reduction while being very damped.
In the example shown, the elastic member is constituted by a leaf spring 1, fixed transversely with respect to the frame 2, the ends of this spring respectively attacking each of the connecting rods 3 which are articulated, crossing one another, on this-chassis and on the spindle yoke 4 of the corresponding wheel 5. The spindle yokes are, on the other hand, connected to the chassis by articulated links

6 and by oblique tensioners 7.
To correct the obliquity of the axes of the rocket yokes when the latter move vertically (obliquity resulting from the differences in length of the connecting rods and rods), the latter can be mounted on exanterated axes; the angular displacement of these axes partly compensating, by varying the length of the oscillation radius, the difference in curvature of the paths traversed by the two ends of each of the yokes.
It is evident that the means described are independent of the positions of the elastic members and of the connecting rods relative to the frame and that the result obtained would be the same if the springs were arranged and) in the most general manner, the along / parallel to the chassis side members.
Constructive modifications can be made to the means described above without departing from the scope of the present invention.
