<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

IMPROVEMENTS TO VALVES AND SIMILAR.
The invention relates to valves and similar shut-off devices, and it relates in particular to valves and the like intended for pipes in which water laden with foreign bodies, such as fibers, waste straw, and the like flow. , as in the instal. lations for artificial retting of flax, for example.
In the valves generally used in these cases, the seal is obtained by the mutual engagement of complementary oonic members, and this results on the one hand in a relatively slow increase in the passage section with, as a consequence, frequent obstructions and on the other hand, due to the friction which occurs between the said members, the wear of the latter is relatively very rapid.
In addition, the replacement of worn organs is laborious.
The object of the invention is above all to avoid these drawbacks, and the object of an arrangement valve such that the increase in the passage section is rapid; which by the use of a sealing gasket of elastic material provides a closure
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
etanohe even though certain foreign bodies are retained between the movable element and its seat, and of which, moreover, the sealing gasket is easily interchangeable, moreover at little cost.
To this end, a valve according to the invention is made to understand, at the same time as a body having an inlet and an outlet arranged angularly with respect to each other, a valve in the form of a plate, guided in the body and carrying a sealing gasket of resilient material held in a recess of the plate by the clamping engagement of a fixing ring or the like. The movements of the plate are preferably controlled by a screw device, this screw working in a nut disposed in a notch of the plate and extending into a housing formed in an axial extension of this plate, and being retained by another part in a cover closing at the end of the body an opening of sufficient dimensions to allow the passage of the tray.
And so that one can fully understand how the above characteristic arrangements can be practically produced, some preferred embodiments will be described below in more detail, of course given by way of examples and illustrated. in the accompanying drawing which shows, in elevation and section, a valve according to the invention.
Referring to the drawing, 1 denotes the body of the valve, the section of which may be arbitrary, but which is preferably circular; 2 designates the inlet and 3 the outlet of this body, these inlet and outlet being shaped as flanges, provided with the openings necessary for the passage of the assembly members to the complementary flanges of the duct sections between which the valve is interposed.
In the body 1 can move a plate 4, the axial movements of which are guided on the body 1 by fins 5 in appropriate number, formed or attached on one of the large faces of the plate, In the other large face of this plate is formed a recess 6, with substantially straight walls 7, in
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
which is engaged an annular seal, elastic material, such as rubber ,, 8, held in place by a ring 9 engaged for clamping in its internal bore.
The plate 4, with its seal 8, cooperates with a plane seat, formed internally, at 10, on the flange of the inlet 2.
To actuate the plate, a hollow axial extension, 11, closed at 12, and itself extended on the other face of the plate by a notch-shaped housing, 14, open d 'an o8té or on two opposite sides and racevant a nut 16. The inside of the nut 15 is threaded, with a relatively fast pitch, preferably left, 13, and in this thread is engaged a screw 16, comprising a smooth extension 17 provided with a flange 18 housed in a recess 19 of a cover 20 closing the opening of the body opposite to the inlet 2.
This opening is of sufficient dimensions to allow the engagement and the withdrawal of the plate 4, and it is fixed on the end of the body 1, with the interposition of a seal if necessary, by easily removable fasteners. , such as bolts 21.
The flange 18 is held in its housing 19, against the axial displacements, by a flange 22 forming at 23 an element of a stuffing box, the other element 24 of which is pressed on a lining 25, at the aid of prisoners 26, fixed in the cover 20 and also passing through openings formed in the flange 22, in substantially the usual manner.
A crank 27 is attached to the end of the screw 16, to turn the latter, in order to move the plate 4 in the suitable direction.
It will be appreciated that by the aforesaid arrangement, when the plate 4 is moved away from its seat 10, the passage section increases rapidly, so that a large flow of liquid is rapidly obtained, which prevents obstruction by the foreign bodies and in particular fibrous stems and the like.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
On the other hand, during the application of the plate 4 on its seat 10, the ring of elastic material ensures tight contact even though a few fibrous rods, for example, would be retained between this ring and the seat 10.
In addition, if the seal is compromised by wear or deterioration of the seal 8, the latter can be easily replaced, by removing a few bolts and extracting the ring 9, restoring the valve to working order. obtained by inverse operations.
Although we have limited ourselves to describing a preferred embodiment, it is understood that the invention is not limited thereto, and that some of the defined members of the valve could be replaced by equivalents, or else that modifications could be made thereto without departing from the limits of the invention.
