 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Fig. 1 montre la   vue   de face d'un ouvre-lettres suivant l'in- vention;
Fig. 2 est une vue latérale de Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 représente la bandelette de déchirure appliquée à une   enveloppe;
Fig. 4 Montre une vue latérale d'une autre forme d'exécution;
Fig. 5 et 6 montrent des vues latérales de deux autres formes de réalisation;   Fig. 7   représente la vue de face d'un ouvre-lettres suivant l'invention, réuni à un feuillet de communication;

Fig. 8 est une vue en coupe suivant la ligne   VIII-VIII   de   Fig.7;
Fig. 9 est une vue explicative   Montrant   plus   claireluent   la disposition suivant Figs. 7 et 8;
Fig. 10 montre une autre forme d'exécution d'une bandelette ;1' ouverture réunie à un feuillet de communication;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  "Device for opening envelopes"
The invention relates to a device for opening envelopes by tearing the tab of the envelope using a tear strip.

     Letter openers are already known consisting of a thread placed or glued in the envelope. However, securing the wire gives rise to difficulties. In most cases, a special device must be used in order to be able to secure the wire in the envelope securely. The object of the invention is to establish a simple letter opener, which is firmly joined to the envelope when the latter is closed.

   There are also already tear strips made of paper or cardboard, which are attached to the envelope itself, either by gluing one end of the strip to the envelope, or by means of a clip. As a result of the gluing, there is easily a deterioration of the contents of the envelope when opening the latter; moreover, the manufacture of such tear strips is complicated and expensive.

   The object of the invention is to establish a particularly simple tearing device which does not have to be joined to the casing by gluing or by another fastening process requiring a lot of time.

   The invention consists in that the tab of the casing passes through

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 the bandeleLte made of hard paper, cardboard or the like, so that it remains securely attached to the envelope after closing thereof.

   The tear strip can be established in the form of a flat loop which has, at one or both of its two ends, a projection serving as a grip, and through which the tab of the envelope is passed at the time. of the closure thereof. It is also possible to join the tear strip to a communication sheet (postcard, advertisement sheet or the like) which has a longitudinal slit through which the tab of the envelope is passed.

   Some examples of execution of the object of the invention are described below with reference to the appended drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 shows the front view of a letter opener according to the invention;
Fig. 2 is a side view of FIG. 1;
Fig. 3 shows the tear strip applied to an envelope;
Fig. 4 Shows a side view of another embodiment;
Fig. 5 and 6 show side views of two other embodiments; Fig. 7 shows the front view of a letter opener according to the invention, joined to a communication sheet;

Fig. 8 is a sectional view along the line VIII-VIII of Fig.7;
Fig. 9 is an explanatory view showing more clearly the arrangement according to Figs. 7 and 8;
Fig. 10 shows another embodiment of a strip: the opening joined to a communication sheet;
Fig. 11 is a sectional view along the line XI-XI of FIG.

  10, and
Fig. 12 is a front view of another embodiment of the opening strip joined to a communication sheet.

   The letter opener according to the invention is advantageously constituted by an opening strip 1 of hard paper, cardboard or similar material, or of artificial material, which is, in accordance with the two execution forces according to Figs. 1-11, folded in the form of a flat loop, as is especially apparent from Figs. 2, 4, 5

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 6 and 9.

   In use, the tab 2 of the envelope 3 is passed through this loop and is glued in the usual way, so that the opening strip 1 is fixed. The strip 1 has, at at least one of its ends, a grip 4 which can either be formed by the strip itself (for example Figs. 1-3), or be attached, for example using a clip (Fig. 4) ,. The loop can be formed in any way, for example by folding the strip at 6 and fixing by gluing or stapling, at 7, one of its ends to the other.

  The loop can of course be formed by two separate strips (Fig. 5) which are attached to each other, at 8 and 8 '. In the case of Fig. 6, the strip is folded in half and glued in 9.

   The strip can be joined in a very simple manner to a postcard or other communication leaflet, as shown in Figs. 7-12. In this case, the postcard, the communication leaflet 11 or the like, is attached to the strip 1 by means of a slot or perforation 10. This leaflet can have any shape. This form can be adapted to each particular purpose of use. Due to the fact that the tab of the envelope has passed both through the loop of the strip 1 and through the slot 10, it is possible to engage the communication sheet 11 in the envelope itself, or else place it above the tab 2 of the envelope. In the latter case, the communication sheet 11 is useful for indicating the sender.

   Fig. 12 shows a particularly simple embodiment, in which the strip 1 is simple, that is to say does not form a loop, and is joined by the slot 10 'to the sheet.
 EMI3.1
 of cnmunication 11. The tab of the envelope is then passed through the slot 10 '. The operation of the letter opener is the same as in the case of the previous Figures: when pulling at the socket 4, the tear strip 1 completely opens the envelope, so that the envelope provided with the strip 1 is instantly open.
