<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Enfin, on voit que, comparés aux dispositifs connus basés sur l'emploi de cardans, de fleotors ou de tout autre genre d'accouplement, les dispositifs conçus suivant l'inven- tion, ne comportant qu'un nombre très restreint d'éléments, sont d'une grande simplicité en ce quiconcerne à la fois la fabrication et le montage;

In addition, if the gimbal tends to take play, this play adds to the play, sometimes important which. exists between the elements contained in the housing (èq4leeî, screws and nuts, etc. ren-, â.an-if the direction imprecise.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
for these reasons and for others, based on the transmission to the steering wheel of the shocks and vibrations which originate on the steered wheels, it has been necessary to replace the cardan shafts with coupling devices constituted by a or. several flexible discs (metal or plastic).
These seals, generally called "flector" allow, as well as lescardans, to control the steering without the tube connecting the flywheel to the housing being strictly in the axis of the screw or, if applicable, of the rack pinion. In addition, the shocks and vibrations transmitted by the steered wheels to the whole of the steering apparatus, particularly in the case of very multiplied steering; reach the rim of the steering wheel, passing through the "flector" which, in this respect, plays the role of a shock absorber.
The subject of the present invention is a method of connecting the steering tube to the driving element of the torque contained in the housing (screw or rack pinion) presenting the menas advantages that the "flector" which has been briefly described. the role and, in between, benefiting from additional advantages inherent in the extreme simplicity of the elements used.
For this purpose, in the preferred embodiment adopted, the steering screw (or the rack pinion) comprises in the part which is intended to be connected to the steering tube, a housing in the form of a hollow cylinder.
The steering tube, the end of which is held by the upper support (side- steering wheel) at a certain distance (a few centimeters) from that of the screw on of the pinion, also comprises a housing of similar shape and dimensions. to that of the screw or the pinion $ either in itself, if its dimensions allow it, or in an attached part.
A metal cable, of suitable length, is put in place so that its ends are embedded respectively in each of the housings of the screw or of the pinion and of the tube. This cable can be held in its embedments by tin soldering and, incidentally, by pins arranged at distance to distance and in several directions *
This method of coupling the steering screw and the. tube leaves some freedom between these two elements; in particular, it makes it possible to control the direction when the tube is not strictly in the axis of the screw.
Besides the corresponding elements being arranged so that the cable has a relatively long length, this device makes it possible, given the diameter of the cable and its composition, to damp the shocks and vibrations transmitted to the steering wheel by the wheels and the 'directing device.
Finally, it can be seen that, compared with known devices based on the use of gimbals, fleotors or any other type of coupling, the devices designed according to the invention, comprising only a very small number of elements. , are very simple in terms of both manufacture and assembly;
The description which will follow with regard to the appended drawing, given by way of nonlimiting example, will make it clear how the invention can be achieved the particularities which emerge both from the text and from the drawing which, of course, form part of said invention. invention.

cylinder shape 6reu 5bis of the screw 5 and part in a similar housing 9bis. arranged in the intermediate part 9, the cable 10 is maintained., preferably by soldering with tin, without its recesses 5bis and 9bis and, optionally, by riveted cylindrical or conical pins.

In the example chosen. Regarding fig.1, the screw 5 is provided with smooth surfaces 13 and 14 of a diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the -filetée part ,, so as to constitute two shoulders which cooperate. with the ball bearings 16 and 15 and the bearings 17 and 18, maintaining the screw 5 'in the position of fig.1, against the axial and radial thrusts generated by the force on the

The transmission of shocks, trepidations! and vibrations,
EMI3.6
is effected through the directing apparatus in a manner more sensitive than the direction is. more multiplied. This transmission 'meets the elastic element constituted by the cable 10 which assumes the damping role devolved to elements of this kind ;, the free length of this cable 10 as well as its
EMI3.7
position (diameter and number of coportanou es filai not a hemp core) can be a. * elsewhere suitably chosen after testing.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The steering tube 4 (fig. 2) is fitted onto the sleeve 21 and riveted or welded to the latter. The sleeve 21 has a housing in the form of a hollow cylinder similar to that defined with reference to FIG. 1, with regard to the intermediate piece 9. The cable 10 is soldered with tin in the sleeve 21 as well as in the end of the steering screw 5, as previously mentioned. These various elements (socket 21, whether or not fitted with tube 4, cable 10 and steering screw 5) having been suitably stripped, tinned and assembled, one proceeds, if there is a link, to the installation of pins 22. It is then sufficient to heat the tinned part in moderation to obtain a perfect assembly and offering any guarantee for safety.
These operations, which can in no way affect the heat treatment of the steering screw 5, are very simple and only use extremely inexpensive construction elements.
CLAIMS
1. Vehicle steering, in particular of motor cars, characterized by the fact that the steering tube is separated from the member which it controls, for example the steering screw or the rack pinion, and is connected to it by an elongated and flexible element capable of transmitting the torque without significant torsion.
