<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

La fig.l est une vue schématique représentant une forme de l'appareil suivant l'invention;
Le codificateur CT comporte plusieurs contacts 75a, 75b 75c qui sont actionnés périodiquement, par exemple soixante- quinze fois par minute, en contact et en rupture avec des con- tacts associés avant,de manière à fermer et ouvrir périodique- ment les circuits commandant les contacts à la fréquence de soixante-quinze par minute;
'. Une source de courant appropriée telle qu'une batterie de voie 3 est reliée et coupée d'avec des rails 1 et la voisins de l'extrémité de gauche, comme re- présenté sur le dessin, de la section 1T, suivant que les contacts 75b 'et 75c du codificateur CT fonctionnent en ferme-' ture ou en rupture avec leurs contacts associés respectivement, de ce fait les rails de..la section 1T sont alimentés avec du courant codifié comprenant des intervalles alternés de "marche" et "arrêt" au cours desquels le courant est ou n'est pas fourni. aux rails et ces intervalles se répètent soixante/quinze fois -par minute.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
Egalement dans la commande de ces relais sont compris des relais de maintien directionnel 3SR et 4SR, prévus pour les signaux 3S et 4S respectivement, et au moyen desquels on obtient la commande directionnelle habituelle des signaux courants dans le système A.P.B., le relais 3SR est muni d'un circuit de prise qui s'étend de la borne'B, passe par le contact arrière 40 du relais 3TRP, le contact avant 41 du relais 3HPR et l'enroulement du relais 3SR pour aboutir à la borne C, et avec un circuit de maintien dans lequel le contact avant 42 du relais 3SR est relié autour du contact avant 41 du relais 3HPR dans le circuit que l'on vient de définir;
en
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>
<Desc/Clms Page number 17>

<Desc/Clms Page number 19>
<Desc/Clms Page number 20>
<Desc/Clms Page number 21>
<Desc/Clms Page number 22>

Railway traffic control unit or rail traffic.
The invention relates to a railway traffic control apparatus and it applies more particularly to an installation of such apparatus in new and improved control systems, of the type using control circuits. line together with codified track circuits.
In control systems of the type described, it is often advantageous to control several different functions by means of line circuits and, in order to discriminate the controls of different functions, it has become customary to install several circuits. line, an individual circuit for each controlled function. So, for example, if two functions are located respectively at the two ends of a section of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
track and have to be controlled from the opposite ends of this section, it is usual to install two line circuits, one for each function, between the ends of the section.
The object of the invention is a new and improved device thanks to which a single circuit of the lines is capable of controlling two functions independently and concurrently, one of these functions being located at each end of the circuit.
Another object of the invention is a new and improved device for the discrimination of the two functions controlled by circuits, which comprises two line wires in common.
A further object of the invention is a new and improved device controlled by a coded track circuit for independently and concurrently operating several functions on a single pair of line wires.
Another object of the invention is a new and improved device controlled by a codified track circuit to reduce the number of line wires necessary for the actuation of several functions associated with the track circuit.
Another object of the invention is a new and improved railroad traffic control system of the type using line circuits in conjunction with codified track circuits.
These and other objects and features of the invention will be readily understood from the following description of the invention, relating to code contacts provided at both ends of a circuit. line actuated in synchronism, by means of coded energy transmitted by the rails and acting to supply alternately two circuits, each of them comprising in common the wires of the line circuit. Two embodiments of the apparatus according to the invention will be described with reference to the appended drawing in which:
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fig.l is a schematic view showing one form of the apparatus according to the invention;
Figs.2a and 2b placed end to end (fig.2a being on the left) represent a schematic view of a variant of the apparatus of fig.l.
In each of these figs. the same references designate the corresponding parts.
Referring to fig.l, 1 and designate the rails of the track which; is shared by insulated joints 2 to form a section of track 1T. Section 1T is provided with a coded current type track circuit comprising a coded generator apparatus attached to one end of the section and a modified current responsive device attached to the opposite end of the section. . The code generator comprises, as shown, a code transmitter or encoder CT supplied by a suitable current source such as a battery not shown, but whose opposite terminals are designated B and C.
The CT encoder has several contacts 75a, 75b 75c which are actuated periodically, for example seventy-five times per minute, in contact and rupture with associated contacts before, so as to periodically close and open the circuits controlling them. contacts at the frequency of seventy-five per minute;
'. A suitable current source such as a 3-track battery is connected and cut off with rails 1 and the neighbors at the left end, as shown in the drawing, of section 1T, depending on whether the contacts 75b 'and 75c of the encoder CT operate in closing or breaking with their associated contacts respectively, therefore the rails of section 1T are supplied with coded current comprising alternating intervals of "on" and "off" "during which current is or is not supplied. to the rails and these intervals are repeated seventy / five times per minute.
A CTP repeater rela.is associated with the codification
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The CTor is energized by a circuit comprising the contact 75a of the CT encoder and a battery 4. The function of this relay will be highlighted in the description below.
The codified current sensitive device comprises, as shown, a TR track relay connected to the rails at the opposite or right end of the section and this relay has several contacts 6, 7, 8 and 9 which are actuated for come into contact with associated front or rear contacts, depending on whether the TR relay is energized or de-energized. When the 1T section is free, the TR relay actuates its contacts towards their front point, during the power supply "on" intervals, with coded current, on rails 1 and la and it actuates these contacts towards their rear point to the "stop" intervals of this codified current.
The TR relay is associated with a TPR detector relay which is energized by the current supplied to a code suppression transformer DT when, and at this moment only, the channel relay is actuated by the codified energy.
Section 1T is associated with a line circuit comprising two line wires 14 and 15 which extend between opposite ends of the section and which can be used to control from either end of the section, appropriate functions such as signals, switches, interlocks etc ... located at the other end of the section. in accordance with the invention, the line circuits include devices intended for the separate and individual control of two of these functions.
These devices include control devices associated with each controlled function and placed in the vicinity of this function; energy transmitting devices associated with each controlled function and located at the opposite end of the section; switching devices for alternately connecting first one and then the other of two sets of control devices to the wires
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
line and to alternately connect first one and then the other of two energy transmitting devices to the line wires.
The switch device is synchronized so as to connect the control device associated with a function to the line wire at the same time that the energy transmitter 'associated with this function is connected to the line wire and, to connect the control device. command associated with the other function to the line wire, at the same time that the energy transmitter associated with this other function is connected to the line wire.
As shown in fig. 1, the control apparatus comprises two relays EDR1 and HDR2, preferably of the polarized neutral hold type located at opposite ends of the section to control two functions (not shown but preferably also located at opposite ends of the section).
These relays are preferably provided with slow release or release characteristics effected, in part at least, by means of resistors 17 connected in their respective windings. HDR1 and HDR2 polarized relays are shown as simple devices, but it is conceivable that a pole relay and a neutral or neutral polarized pole relay excited in series can be used when desired.
The energy transmitting device has suitable current sources such as batteries 18 and 19 provided with pole changing devices which are represented as relays PCR1 and PCR2. The relays PCR1 and PCR2 can be controlled in any suitable manner (not shown) either manually or automatically by the traffic in the section.
The switching device comprises the contact of the repeater relay PTC and the contact of the track relay TR, which contacts operate in synchronism by means of the encoder CT. When he activates his contacts, to their
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
forward position, contacts 7 and 8 of relay TR are brought to their forward position, in response to the energy transmitted by battery 3 on the track rails to relay TR, and the contacts
20 and 21 of the PTC relay are likewise brought to their position. before, in response to the excitement of the CTP relpis.
Likewise, when the CT encoder actuates its contacts out of contact with their front point, contacts 7 and 8 of relay TR are returned to their rear position since relay TR is now de-energized, because no current is flowing in rpils 1 and the, during the "stop" periods of the code, and the PTC relay likewise actuates its contacts 20 and 21 towards their rear position because the excitation circuit of this relay is cut.
The line circuit is arranged as in fig.l, so that, when the interrupting contacts of the CTP and TR rplpis are in their forward position, the HDR1 relay is connected to the battery 19 by a circuit starting from a terminal of the battery 19 and passing through the front contact 22 of the change of pole relay PCR2, the front contact 23 of the TPR relay, the front contact 8 of the TR relay, the line wire 14, the contact before
20 of the PTC relay, the winding of the HDR1 relay, the front contact
21 of the PTC relay, the line wire 15, the front contact 9 of the TR relay, the front contact 24 of the TPR relay, the front contact
25 of relay PCR2, to lead to the other terminal of the battery
19.
In this state of the device, the current of a polarity which can be considered as the normal low polarity by the line wires 14 and 15 towards the HDR1 relay which it excites, so that this relay actuates its armature towards its normal or left position, as shown in the drawing. If, however, the PCR2 relay is disengaged, so that its contacts 22 and 25 are at their rear point, the polarity of the current sent to the HDR1 relay will be reversed, as is evident from examining the drawing, and this armature relay will be activated
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
in its reverse or right position.
When the interrupt contacts of the PTC and TR relays are in their rear position, the HDR2 relay is connected with the battery 18 by a circuit starting from a terminal of the battery 18 and passing through the front contact 26 of the PCR1 relay. , the rear contact 20 of the PTC relay, the line wire 14, the rear contact 8 of the TR relay, the front contact 27 of the TPR relay, the winding of the HDR2 relay, the front contact 28 of the TPR relay, the contact rear 2 of relay TR, line wire 15, rear contact 21 of relay 'PTC, front contact 29 of relay PCR1, to end at the other terminal of battery 18.
As soon as this circuit is established, the HDR2 relay receives current of normal relative polarity by the battery 18 and it actuates its armature towards its left or normal position; but if the PCR1 relay is released, the polarity of the current sent to the HDR2 relay will then be reversed and this relay will actuate its polar armature towards the reversed or right position.
The two circuits which have just been described are alternately established as long as section 1T is free. As a result, the HDR1 and HDR2 polarized relays will be energized alternately and, due to their slow release characteristic, the neutral armature of each of these relays will be maintained during the intervals when the other relay is energized, so that the neutral contacts of each relay are kept in their attracted position, due to the periodic excitations of this relay in the line circuit. Due to the synchronism between the interrupt contacts of the PTC and TR relays, the two circuits are discriminated and the appropriate relay will at all times be connected with the appropriate source and an inadequate connection of one relay with the source of the other relay cannot occur.
The neutral and polar contacts of the HDR1 and HDR2 control relays can cooperate to control the
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
circuits which can be used anyway suitably for suitable purposes.
In order to participate in the synchronization of the interrupt contacts at both ends of the circuit, the PTC repeater relay is used and it is set to introduce substantially the same delay in the operation of its contacts as that introduced in the switch. operation of the contacts of the TR relay, due to the characteristics of the track circuit.
In other words, if there is no phase delay or any code distortion introduced into the operation of the relay TR due to the impedance of the track circuit or for any other cause, this phase delay or this Code distortion will be compensated for by adjusting the PTC relay to actuate its contacts and produce a phase delay or a corresponding type of code distortion.
When a train moving in any direction or other enters section 1T, the TR relay is bypassed and the TRP relay disengages to open its contacts interposed in each branch of the line circuit and, therefore, it cuts off. both battery 19 and HDR2 relay of the line circuit until the section is released. This ensures that the HDR1 and HDR2 control relays together will be controlled by traffic on the neighboring section.
The apparatus shown in Fig. 1 is arranged such that two different functions can be controlled concurrently on a line circuit. In the system shown in fig. 1 as long as the TPR relay is actuated or drawn, current is sent through the line wires from battery 19 placed at the right end of the line circuit to the relay HDR1 placed at the left end of the line circuit when the PTC and TR contacts are drawn at the same time, and it is powered by battery 18 from the left end of the line circuit to the HDR2 relay of
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
the right end of the line circuit, when the contacts of the PTC and TR relays are both released.
However, the invention is not limited to the supply of energy in opposite directions on the line wires in the two contact positions of the PTC and TR relays and it is envisaged that the control relays together are located at one end of the circuit. line and also that the current sources are located at the other end and that when the contacts of the PTC and TR relays are both engaged, energy from one source is sent through the line wires to control relay and when the PTC and TR contact relays are off, power from the other source is sent over the line wire to the other control relay.
In figs. 2a and 2b, the apparatus of fig. 1 is shown as being incorporated in an absolute permissive block (APB) for the control of traffic in both directions on a section of track extending between two branches WS and ES . Referring now to fig.â and 2b, the rails 1 and 1a are cut by insulating joints 2 into several successive track sections 2T and ST, etc. each of them is provided with a track circuit codified, similar to that which has been described in detail with regard to the apparatus of fig.l.
In figs. 2a and 2b, however, each CT encoder works to code the current of the track circuit, feeding two neighboring ends of two joined track circuits, i.e. encoder 2 - 3CT codes the current sent to the right end of section 2T and left end of section ST; while encoder 4.- 5CT codes the current sent to the right end of section 4T and to the left end of section 5T.
Each track circuit includes a TR ¯ track relay, slaved to the code, actuated by applied coded energy
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
on the rails of the section, while each track relay is associated with a TPR code detector relay supplied by a decoding transformer DT when the track relay is slaved to the code, and only in this case.
Signals 2S and 48 are provided to control traffic coming from the east moving on the section from left to right, as shown in the drawing, while signals 38 and 39 are used to control traffic going from the right. to the left of the section. These signals can be of any suitable type such as semaphores, projectors, etc., but, for the present description, it will be assumed that these signals are of the colored light type, each being provided with a green lamp G, a yellow Y lamp and a red R lamp yes are effective, when illuminated, to indicate freewheeling, a, dimming or stop, respectively.
Each signal 8 is associated with an HDR polarized control relay provided with a figure corresponding to the figure used in the reference character of the associated signal. Each HDR relay has slow release characteristics effected, in part at least, by means of a resistor 17 connected across its terminals, and each HDR relay is provided with a slow release repeater relay designated by HPR with a number corresponding to the number of the associated polarized relay, this repeater relay being equipped by an obvious circuit when the neutral armature of the associated polarized HDR relay is attracted, closes its front contact 35,
each HDR polarized relay and its associated HPR repeater relay cooperate to control the associated signal 8, such that, when the neutral armature of a polarized HDR relay is attracted, the associated signal indicates? either its free path or its warning indication, depending on whether the polarized relay's pole armature occupies one or the other of these two positions and, when an HPR repeater relay is
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
released, due to the release of the neutral armature of its associated HDR polarized relay, the associated signal indicates shutdown.
For example, when the neutral contact 55 of the 2HDR relay is attracted, it causes the attraction of the 2HPR relay and closes its front contacts 36, the associated signal 28 then indicates its free channel or its warning depending on whether the lamps G or Y of this signal are excited by a circuit going from terminal.B to contact 36 of relay 2HPR, to normal pole contact 37-38 of relay 2HDR and to the white or free filament of lamp G of signal 28, or to contact 37-39 pole of the 2HDR relay and the Y lamp filament of the 2S signal to end at terminal C.
When the neutral contact 35 of the 2HDR relay is released, its repeater relay 2HPR is also released and the lamp R of the 2S signal is then energized by a circuit passing through the rear contact 36 of the 2HPR relay.
The 2HDR and 3HDR relays are actuated according to the invention by means of a simple line circuit, comprising two line wires 14 and 15 which extend between two distant ends of two contiguous 2T sections. and 3T, and the 4HDR and 5HDR relays are likewise controlled by means of a similar line circuit extending between the far ends of the 4T and 5T sections.
Also in the control of these relays are included 3SR and 4SR directional holding relays, intended for the 3S and 4S signals respectively, and by means of which the usual directional control of the current signals in the APB system is obtained, the 3SR relay is provided of a tap circuit which extends from terminal'B, passes through rear contact 40 of 3TRP relay, front contact 41 of 3HPR relay and the winding of 3SR relay to end at terminal C, and with a holding circuit in which the front contact 42 of the 3SR relay is connected around the front contact 41 of the 3HPR relay in the circuit which has just been defined;
in
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
In addition, the 3SR relay circuit has two different trrjets which go from terminal B through the rear contact 41 of the 3HPR relay and the front contact 42 of the 3SR relay to the relay winding.
The 4SR relay is provided with a tap and hold circuit as is easily seen by examining the drawing.
To facilitate the study of circuits qvi. will be described in detail, the relay contacts have sometimes been shown, in the drawing, separated from the windings of the relay actuating these contacts, but in each of these cases these contacts are provided. an individual reference for each contact by placing on this contact the reference of the relay which controls it. For example, the 3SR reference, placed above contact 45, indicates that this contact is associated with and controlled by the 3SR relay.
The feed to the left end of line wires 14 and 15 is controlled in part by the 1HDR and 1HPR relays which are controlled by traffic conditions in the section of track adjacent to the WS junction, so that this 1HDR polar relay is de-energized when the portion of this part of the track section adjacent to the right or side 3 of the branch is occupied, while if this portion of the track section is free, energy of normal polarity or reversed is applied to the 1HDR relay, depending on whether the portion of track adjacent to the west end of the WS branch is vacant or occupied. The 1HPR slow release neutral relay is controlled by the neutral contact 35 of the 1HDR relay, as is evident from the drawing.
Likewise, the feeding of the east or right end of the line wires associated with the 4T and 5T sections is controlled, in part, by the 6HDR and 6HPR relays which are controlled, by the traffic conditions in the section of next to the ES junction.
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
The equipment is shown in the conditions it provides when the track section is vacant. At this time, the 4HDR relay is energized by current of normal polarity applied to the line wires associated with the sections. 4T and 5T and current passes through front contact 35 of 4HDR relay to go to 4HPR relay and its contacts are drawn, so that energy of normal polarity is applied to the east end of line wires 14 and 15. The 4HDR relay is supplied with controlled energy in a manner analogous to that which has been described for the 3HDR relay.
Further, at this time, the 1HDR relay is supplied with current of normal polarity, by means not shown, so that the 1HPR relay is attracted.
When the 2T and 3T sections are free, the 2TR and 3TR track relays operate in synchronism by current flowing through the track rails, as a consequence of the action of the 2-3CT code transmitter. It results from the operation according to the code of the 2TR and 3TR channel relays that power is supplied by the 2DT and 3DT decoding transformer to the 2TPR and 3TPR relays respectively, in order to allow the line wires 14 and 15 to 'be powered and to the control relays to be connected to the line wires.
When the contacts of the 2TR and 3TR channel relays are pulled together, as shown, power can be supplied through wires 14 and 15 from a source at the right end of the line-to circuit. the 2HDR control relay placed at the left end of the line circuit and when the 4HTR relay is pulled, this power supply is of normal polarity.
The supply circuit for the 2HDR relay starts from terminal B of a current source not shown and passes through the front contact 44 of the 4HPR relay, the rear contact 45 of the 3SR relay, the front contact 46 of the 3TPR relay, the front contact 47 of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
3TR channel relay, the line wire 14, the front contact 48 of the 2PH channel relay, the front contact 49 of the 2TPR relay, the winding of the 2HDR relay, the front contact 50 of the PTPR relay, the front contact 51 from relay 2PR, line wire 15, front contact 52 of 3PR relay, front contact 53 of 3TPR relay, and front contact 54 of 4HPR relay to terminate C of the source.
The power supply of the 2HDR relay draws the neutral contact 35 of the relay so that energy is applied to the 2HPR relay, while the polar contact 38 of the 2HDR relay occupies its normal left position ;, so that the power is supplied. to the green or white lamp G of the 2S signal via the circuit which includes the front contact 36 of the 2HPR relay.
When releasing the contacts of the 2TR and 3TR track stiffeners, the power supply to the 2HDR relay is cut off, while the 3HDR relay is powered in normal polarity by a circuit starting from terminal B and passing through wire 67, the polar contact normal 66 of the 1HPR relay, the front contact 65 of the 1HPR relay, the front contact 64 of the 2TPR relay, the rear contact 51 of the 2TR relay, the line wire 15, the rear contact 52 of the 3TR channel relay, the front contact 63 of the 3TPR relay, the winding of the 3HDR relay, the rear contact 62 of the 4SR relay, the front contact 61 of the 3TPR relay, the rear contact 47 of the 3TR relay, the line wire 14, the rear contact 48 of the rlis 2TR, the front contact 60 of the 2TPR relay,
front contact 59 of relay 1HPR, normal pole contact 58 of relay 1HDR and wire 57 to terminate at terminal C.
The power supply of the 3HDR relay causes the attraction of its neutral contact 35, so that the 3HPR relay is energized, while the pole contact 37 of the 3HDR relay is 3 its left or normal position, so that the lamp green or white G of the 3S signal, is supplied by a circuit comprising the front contact 36 of the 3HPR relay.
<Desc / Clms Page number 15>
At this time, therefore, the 2S signal controlling the entry of the East Zone signals into the single section of track and the 3S intermediate West signal together give clear track indications.
Likewise, when the 6HDR relay is energized by a current of normal polarity and when the 6HPR relay is pulled, a normal polarity power supply passes through the line wires' associated with the 4T and 5T track sections to the 4HDR relay, for example. during the attraction periods of the 4TR and 5TR channel relays. Likewise, when the 3HPR relay is pulled, normal polarity power is passed through these line wires to go to the 5HDR relay during the 4TR and 5TR channel relay release periods, while when the 4HDR and 5HDR relays are on. simultaneously excited with current of normal polarity, signals 48 and 58 give their green or white indications.
At this time, the 3SR relay is released, while the 3TPR and 5HPR relays are pulled, while the 4SR relay is released when the 4HPR and 4TPR relays are pulled.
If a train coming from the east enters the portion of track to the left of section 2T, the power supply to the 1HDR relay changes from normal polarity to reverse polarity by a device not shown and the pole contacts 56 and 66 of the 1HDR relays move to their right or reverse position, thereby cutting off the normal polarity power supply and causing the reverse polarity power supply through line wires 14 and 15, to the 3HDR relays, during periods of release of the contacts of the 2TR and 3TR channel relays. When changing the polarity of the power supply to the 3HDR relay, the pole contact 37 of the relay moves to the right or to its inverted position, then cutting the circuit of the green lamp G and closing the circuit of the yellow lamp. warning Y of this signal.
At this moment, the 3HPR relay remains attracted and its contacts
<Desc / Clms Page number 16>
70 and 71 maintain the polarity power supply, normal to the 5HDR relay, so that it maintains the green or white indication of signal 58.
When the train coming from the east moves a little closer to the 2T track section, the power supply to the relay is cut and its neutral contact 35 is released and interrupts the circuit of the 1HPR relay and the contacts 59 and 65 of the relay. IHPR relays disengage and establish an independent circuit of the 1HDR relay to reverse polarity power to the 3HDR relay, so that the 3S signal continues to indicate yellow or warning.
When the train coming from the East enters the 2T section, the 2TR track relay remains free and its contacts 48 and 51 do not close the 2HDR relay circuit, so its neutral contact 35 cuts the relay circuit. 2HTR and due to its contact 36 disengages and interrupts the circuit of the green lamp G and closes the circuit of the red lamp R of the signal 2S.
When the train coming from the east advances in section 2T, the 2TR track relay stops following the code and current is no longer applied by the 2DT decode transformer to the 2TPR relay and the relay disengages. , so that its contacts 49 and 50 cut off the circuits of the 2HDR relay in the same way and the contacts 60 and 64 of the 2TPR relay cut off the supply to the line wires 14 and 15 via the rear contacts 48 and 51 of the track relay 2TR, so that the 3HDR relay is discharged and its contact 35 cuts the circuit of the 3HPR relay and the contact 36 of the 3HPR relay cuts the circuit of the yellow lamp Y and closes the circuit of the red lamp R of the 3S signal.
When disengaging the 3HPR relay, its contact. 41 interrupts the 3SR relay attraction circuit, so that this relay remains disengaged, during the resulting disengagement of the relay
<Desc / Clms Page number 17>
In addition, when disengaging the 3HPR relay, its contacts 70 and 71 interrupt the normal polarity power supply to the 5HDR relay through the line wires associated with the 4T and 5T sections, while the displacement of the contacts 70 and 71 towards. their rear contacts send no current to these line wires since contact 80 of the 3SR relay is released. As a result, the 5HDR relay disengages and causes the 5HPR relay to disengage, so that the 5S signal indicates stop or red, so. prevent a train coming from the west from advancing beyond the ES junction and entering the single track section.
The supply of the 4HDR relay by the line wires associated with the 4T and 5T sections is not modified at this time and the 4S signal, therefore, continues to indicate green and white.
When the train advances in the 3T section, the 3TR track relay stops following the code and the 3DT decoding transformer is no longer supplied, as well as the 3TPR relay, the 3TPR relay contacts disengage to prevent the feed the line wires 14 and 15 at their east end and to prevent the 3HDR relay from being fed by the line wires.
When the train moves forward in the 4T section, the 4TR track relay stops following the code and remains disengaged so that its contacts cut off the line circuit power at the 4HDR relay and the neutral contact 35 of the 4HDR relay disengages and cuts the circuit of the 4HPR relay, so that its contact 36 is released to cut the circuit of the green lamp G and to close the circuit of the red lamp R of the 4S signal.
In addition, when the 4PR channel relay stops following the code, the power supply stops by the 4DT transformer to the 4TPR relay which disengages to prevent the power supply,. of the 4HDR relay through the line circuit and to prevent the
<Desc / Clms Page number 18>
mention of the west end of the line circuit. The 4TPR relay is somewhat slow to disengage, so its contacts will remain drawn during the intervals between the energy pulses feeding the relay, from the decode transformer.
Likewise, the 4HDR relay is of a type whose neutral contacts are slow to disengage, so that its contacts will remain attracted during periods when the supply to the relay from the line circuit is. switched off, while the 4HPR relay which is controlled by contact 35 of the 4HDR relay is of a type whose contacts are slow to release. The various parts of the system are disnosed and proportioned so that when a train enters the 4T section and the 4TR track relay stops following the code thus removing power to the 4TPR and 4HDR relays, the relay contacts 4HPR will remain attracted until after the contacts of the 4TPR relay are released.
As a result, when disengaging the 4TPR relay, energy is sent to the rear contact 72 of the 4TPR relay and the front contact 73 of the 4HPR relay to the 4SR relay and its contacts are drawn so that its front contact 74 establishes a circuit of. hold to keep the relay engaged as long as either of the 4TPR or 4HPR relays is disengaged.
In addition, when the 4SR relay is pulled its contact 62 will cut the 4HDR relay circuit to thereby ensure that this relay remains clear and it maintains the stop indication of the west signal 38. attraction of the 4SR relay, its front contact 55 closes so as to allow the supply of line wires 14 and 15, according to the action in code of the 3TR channel relay and the attraction of the 3TPR relay, while at At this time, contact 81 of the 4SR relay is pulled to prevent power to the west end of the line circuit associated with the 4T and 5T sections to ensure that
<Desc / Clms Page number 19>
the 5HDR relay would remain released and maintain the 5S signal stop indication.
As the train advances in section 5T, the 5TR track relay stops following the code and the 5TPR relay disengages to prevent power to the line circuit associated with the 4T and 5T sections and to prevent power to the 5HDR relay. by the line circuit.
When the train advances in the section of track section in the vicinity of the ES branch, the 6HDR relay is de-energized by a means not shown and its neutral contact is released to cut the circuit of the 6HPR relay, so that its contacts emerge and establish a circuit allowing reverse polarity energy to be sent to the line circuit for sections 4T and 5T, by pulling the contacts of the 5TPR relay.
When the train abandons the part of the track in the vicinity of the junction they, the normal polarity power supply is applied to the 1HDR relay by a means not shown and its pole contacts move to their left or normal position while the contact Neutral of relay 35 is drawn and sets the circuit of relay 1HPR so that its contacts 59 and 65 are drawn to establish the circuit allowing current of normal polarity to be sent to line wires 14 and 15.
When the train abandons the 2T track section, the 2PR track relay again obeys the coded energy supplied by the rails of the section and the 2TPR relay is attracted to allow power to the west end. line wires 14 and 15 and supplying the 2HDR relay via the line wires.
As long as the 3T section is occupied the 3TPR relay is disengaged and prevents the supply of line wires 14 and 15 as well as that by these line wires of the relay
<Desc / Clms Page number 20>
When the train abandons the 3T section, the 3TR track relay operates in code and is supplied by the rails of the section, it is attracted so that its front contacts 61 and 62 close, but at this moment the contact 62 of the 4SR relay is attracted and prevents the supply of the 3HDR relay, so that it remains clear and maintains the stop indication of signal 38.
In addition, when the 3TPR relay is attracted, its contacts 46 and 53 close the circuit comprising the front contact 55 of the 4SR relay, the rear contacts 44 and 54 of the 4HPR relay and the rear contact 45 of the 3SR relay to supply current from reverse polarity, line wires 14 and 15 during periods of attraction of the STR track relay.
This current feeds, through line wires 14 and 15, the 2HDR relay and causes its polar contact 37 to occupy its right-hand position or inverted position while the neutral contact 55 of the relay is attracted to establish the circuit of the relay. 2HPR relay and its neutral contact 36 is attracted to interrupt the circuit of the red lamp R of the 2S signal and to establish the circuit comprising the pole contacts 37-39 of the 2HDR relay, to supply energy to the yellow or warning lpmpe Y signal 2S so Due this signal now gives a permissive indication? End I allow a second or other train coming from the east to enter the single track section.
When the train abandons the 4T section, the 4TR track relay operates with the codified energy supplied by the rails of the section and the 4TPR relay is drawn so that its contacts establish connections through the 4HDR relay is connected to the circuit of line during periods of attraction of the 4TR channel relay contacts. At this time, the 5TPR relay is disengaged and the 5TR channel relay is also disengaged, so that there is no power to the end.
East of this line circuit and the 4HDR relay as a result, remains .. de-energized, although it is connected to the line circuit.
As a result
<Desc / Clms Page number 21>
Consequently, contact 35 of the 4HDR relay remains released and cuts off the circuit of the 4HPR relay so that its contact 36 maintains the circuit of the red lamp R of the 4S signal, while the contact 73 of the 4HPR relay maintains a circuit of hold for the 4SR relay, so that the contact 55 of the 4SR relay maintains the reverse polarity supply circuit to the line wires 14 and 15, the contact 62 of the 4SR relay prevents the supply of the 3HDR relay and the contact 61 of the 4SR relay prevents power to the West end of the line circuit associated with sections 4T and 5T.
When the train abandons the 5T section, the 5TR track relay responds to the coded energy supplied by the rails of the 5T section and the 5TPR relay is supplied through the 5DT transformer and its contacts are drawn to allow the supply of the The east end of the line circuit of sections 4T and 5T to allow the power supply of this line circuit at the west end of this line and consequently to supply the 5HDR relay.
After the attraction of the 5TPR relay, the reverse polarity power is sent to the line circuits of sections 4T and 5T through the rear contacts of the 6HPR relay during the attraction periods of the contacts of the 5TR channel relay, while energy is sent to the line wires and feeds, through the front contacts of the 4TR channel relay and the 4TPR relay, the 4HDR relay, causing the displacement of its pole contact 37 to its right or negative position. paid, while the neutral contact 35 of the relay is attracted and it establishes the circuit of the relay 4HPR, so that its contacts are attracted and the contact 36 cuts the circuit of the red lamp R of the signal 4S and establishes the circuit comprising the reverse pole contact 37 of the 4HDR relay to supply the yellow or warning lamp Y of the 4S signal.
<Desc / Clms Page number 22>
In addition, when the 4HPR relay is attracted '', its contact 73 cuts the holding circuit of the 4SR relay and the contacts of the 4SR relay are released, so that the contact 62 establishes the circuit of the 3HDR relay while bare. , by attraction

far enough so that energy of normal polarity is applied by means of a device not shown to the 6HDR relay, the polarity of the energy applied to the end of the line circuit of sections 4T and 5T passes from inverted to normal and by this changes the pole contact 37 of the 4HDR relay moves from its inverted position to its normal position to cause an indication by the 4S signal of green instead of yellow. At this time, the 4HPR relay remains attracted and maintains the power supply in normal polarity to the end of the line wires 14 and 15,
to maintain the green or white indication of the 2S signal and the whole installation is again in the state it is in when the track section is free. The equipment operates in much the same way when moving a train coming from the west through the section of track and a description of the operation of the equipment at this time is not required.
Although only two embodiments of the apparatus controlling the traffic of railways according to the invention have been described, it is understood that various changes and modifications can be made to them without departing for that of the spirit and purposes of the invention.
