<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Coupling device between hub and freewheel for bicycle.
The present invention relates to a quick coupling device, between hub and freewheel, for a bicycle which allows immediate assembly and disassembly, without having to remove the chain from the rear wheel.
The aim of the invention is to avoid cyclists, particularly, especially when they are racing, the great inconvenience of wasting considerable or precious time when it is necessary to remove the rear wheel because of the large number of detailed operations. necessary for this disassembly.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It should be considered that, with the current methods of fixing the freewheel to the hub, it is necessary not only to loosen the wing nuts of the hub, but also to dismantle the chain and, when there is one, the casing. chain cover.
When there is a gear change to insert, the operation is even more complicated.
By means of the device which is the subject of the present invention, the hub of the wheel and the mechanism of the free wheel are assembled in such a way that they can be separated from each other very easily and quickly while leaving attached to the fork the freewheel mechanism and any other component that may depend on it.
The use of the device in question here also allows easy removal of the spokes since there is no longer any obstacle 1 freewheel for this operation.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
As can be seen in the drawing, a ring 2 with front toothing outwards is applied, 1 the location of a normal freewheel, to an ordinary commercial hub 1; furthermore, a clamping rod 15 threaded at its end close to this ring, sliding in the hub itself and located inside the cylinder 11, can be operated by means of a crank 16 fixed at the other end. .
The rod 15 is further provided, on the side of the crank 16, with a coil spring 17 which makes it return back when its action is no longer necessary, and a retaining ring 12, which can slide in a suitable seat arranged in the cylinder 11, which prevents a complete retraction of the rod 15.
The c8ne 10 is adjusted so as to put it exactly at the level of the edge of the hub.

As for the freewheel, it has a front toothing socket 3 identical to that of the ring 2; inside this sleeve is a ball bearing 5 in the inner ring of which penetrates an extended pivot 6; it is fixed to it by means of the nut 7 with the interposition of a dust-shielding disc 8. From the side facing the hub, this pivot has, in the center, a hollow blower, or primed hole, threaded in which is screwed the free end of the clamping rod 15.
The operation of the device described above is very simple. When the crank 16 is turned, the rod 15 is screwed into the threaded hole of the extended pivot 6, which has the immediate effect of locking between the ring 2 and the sleeve 3, combined by their front teeth forming a gear, and between the hub of the wheel, on the one hand, and the fork of the cycle frame, on the other hand.
The reverse operation releases the freewheel-hub coupling and the hub-fork coupling, while the spiral spring 17 assists in the partial withdrawal of the clamping rod 15 and, consequently, in the freedom of the wheel.
The invention has been described and illustrated purely as an indication and in no way limiting, and it goes without saying that numerous modifications can be made to its details, without departing from its spirit.
The basic principle of the present invention therefore covers and will therefore cover all devices allowing, by means of a central fixing rod combined with a quick coupling, to make the hub independent of the freewheel; it also covers, in general, all the devices allowing rapid assembly of the rear wheel of a cycle without having to remove the chain.
