"CLEF A ECROUS A MACHOIRE COULISSANTE"
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
suivant l'invention.
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

"SLIDING JAW NUT KEY"
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention relates to a wrench with jaw nuts sliding along a guide carrying a fixed jaw.
There are such wrenches, generally known as "spanner" in which the sliding jaw is moved by the rotation of a screw or a nut.
This screw or nut must be operated each time the key is removed from the nut to be tightened, unless the sliding jaw has not been brought as close as possible to the fixed jaw, which is detrimental to the correct conservation of the key and nuts.
The present invention relates to a key which does not have these drawbacks and which, however, is suitable for tightening nuts of very different dimensions from one another.
To this end, in the key according to the invention, the sliding jaw carries a pivot for a lever which is disposed on the side of this jaw opposite to that where the fixed jaw is located, said lever being pivoted relative to a rod pivoted on the other hand at an adjustable position point relative to the aforesaid fixed guide and located further from the fixed jaw than the pivot of articulation of the rod to the lever.
With a key of this type, tightening or loosening of the nut is obtained by bringing the aforesaid lever closer to the fixed guide and it is by acting in the same direction on this lever that the nut is rotated. By moving the lever away from the guide, we move the sliding jaw away from the fixed jaw and allow the key to return maneuver, that is to say its rotation in the opposite direction to that in which a force must be exerted. on the nut. t
In order to further facilitate the return maneuver of the key, the latter has a return spring which constantly urges the sliding jaw to move away from the fixed jaw.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
According to an advantageous embodiment, the aforesaid spring is connected to the fixed guide and acts on the aforesaid lever so as to urge the pivot of articulation of the rod to the aforementioned lever to move away from the fixed guide.
In order to allow the key to be dropped when it is tightened on a nut, provision has also been made for the aforementioned three pins to be arranged so that the pivot of articulation of the link to the lever can be brought slightly to the - beyond the alignment of the other two pivots and a stop for the lever is d-ispo- / so as to prevent the pivot of the link rod to the lever from exceeding the position slightly beyond the alignment of the other two pivots.
According to a particular embodiment, the pivot of articulation of the link with respect to the fixed guide is mounted on a heel which can slide along the fixed guide and be immobilized in a certain number of positions and in addition the distance of one of the three aforementioned pivots relative to an adjacent pivot is gradually adjustable by an amount at least equal to the distance which separates two successive positions of the aforesaid heel along the guide.
More particularly, the rod and the aforesaid lever are articulated around two eccentric bearings of a pivot which can be rotated around the axis of one of these bearings and which can be immobilized in a very large number. of angular positions with respect to that of the elements which pivots with respect to the scope considered.
Other features and details of the invention will become apparent from the description of the drawings appended hereto, which schematically represent, and by way of example only, four embodiments of the key according to invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view after partial breaking of a first embodiment of the nut wrench
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a cross section passing through the axis of the articulation between the lever and the rod forming part of the key according to Figure 1.
Figures 3 to 5 show in elevation, after partial section, three other embodiments of the nut wrench according to the invention.
FIG. 6 shows in elevation, after partial section, part of another embodiment of the key according to the invention.
In these different figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.
In Figures 1 and 2 there is shown a nut wrench comprising a fixed jaw 2 integral with a guide 3 along which can slide a movable jaw 4. The latter jaw carries a pivot 5 around which pivots a lever 6 which is arranged on the side of jaw 4 opposite to that where fixed jaw 2 is located.
The lever 6 is connected by a pivot 7 to a connecting rod 8 which also pivots around a pivot 9 carried by a heel 10 which can occupy different positions along the guide 3. This heel can be moved by hand in the direction of the double arrow x, and be immobilized in a certain number of positions by the engagement of the teeth 11 which it presents in similar teeth 12 presented by the guide 3. The heel 10 can be held in n ' any of these positions by a screw 13 screwed into the heel and resting against the edge 14 of the guide 3.
The pivot 9 is located further from the fixed jaw 2 than the pivot 7 connecting the rod 8 to the lever 6. As one can easily see, the bringing together of the lever 6 of the guide 3 by pivoting this lever around the pivot 5 in the direction of the arrow Y has the effect of making the connecting rod 8 pivot around the pivot 9 in the direction of the arrow Z and, by con-
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
sequent, to push back the pivot 5 and the movable jaw 4 parallel to the guide 3 in the direction of the arrow R. On the contrary, by moving the lever 6 away from the guide 3, the key is opened. This opening is facilitated by the action of a spring 15 connected, on the one hand, to the heel 10 integral with the fixed guide and, on the other hand, to a projection 16 integral with the lever 6. This spring constantly urges the sliding jaw. 4 to move away from the fixed jaw 2.
The pivots 5, 7 and 9 are arranged so that the pivot 7 by which the lever 6 is articulated to the rod 8 can be brought slightly beyond the alignment of two other pivots 8 and 9. When the pivot 7 has been brought slightly beyond this alignment, it is prevented from exceeding the position which it occupies at this moment by the fact that the lever 6 then abuts against the guide 3. The distance of the pivot 7 in relation to to the pivot 9 is gradually adjustable by an amount at least equal to the distance which separates two successive positions of the heel 10 along the guide 3. This progressive adjustment is obtained by the fact that the connecting rod 8 is articulated around a bearing 17 (FIG. 2) which is eccentric with respect to another bearing 18 around which the lever 6 is articulated.
The two bearing surfaces 17 and 18 form part of the pivot 7 and on the latter is wedged a toothed wheel 19 in the teeth 20 of which a pawl 21 (Figure 1) can be engaged pivoting around a pivot 22 carried by the lever 6 .
The pawl 21 serves to block the rotation of the toothed wheel 19 in both directions. Given the large number of teeth that this toothed wheel has, the pivot 7 can be immobilized in a very large number of angular positions relative to the lever 6. Therefore, the eccentric bearing surface 17 can be considered in practice as being able to be; immobilized in any of the angular positions that it can occupy.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
To double the number of positions in which the eccentric bearing surface 17 can be immobilized without reducing the width of the teeth 20 or increasing the size of the toothed wheel 19, the key shown in FIG. 1 has a second pawl which can cooperate. with toothing 20. The ratchet nose of this second pawl is designated by 23. The ratchet nose 21 and 23 can be brought separately into the toothing 20.
The distance which separates the beak 21 from the pivot 22 differs from that which separates the beak 23 from this same pivot, by an amount equal to half the width of the gap between two adjacent teeth 20. Consequently, the number of positions in which the wheel 19 can be locked is double the number of locking positions in the case where the pawl 21 would exist alone.
To keep the snap-fastening jaws 21 or 23 engaged in the teeth 20, there is provided a spring 24 acting by traction on an arm 25 pivoting around the pivot 22. This arm laterally carries a pin which can be supported behind the pin. one or the other of the aforementioned pawls, depending on the position that the said arm occupies on one or the other side of the plane passing through the axis of the pivot 22 and through the point 26 where the spring 24 is attached.
Thanks to the mechanism which has just been described, one can find a position of the heel 10 along the guide 3 for which the tightening of a nut is carried out by varying the angular position of the toothed wheel 19, a little before the The axis of the pivot 7 reaches the plane passing through the axes of the pivots 5 and 9. One can count on the elasticity of the parts of the key according to the invention to make pass, by an additional thrust of the lever 6 in the direction of the arrow Y, the axis of the pivot 7 up to the aforesaid plane. By making it slightly exceed this plane, the nut remains tight and the jaw 4 cannot move away from the jaw 2. We can therefore completely release the lever 6 and the key remains in engagement with the nut it has. tight.
In Figure 3, there is shown another form of ex-
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
execution of the key according to the invention in which the heel 10 is moved along the guide 3 by the rotation of a threaded sleeve 27 on a threaded portion 28 of this guide. The sleeve
29 threaded 27 has a collar / engaged in a correspondingly shaped groove 30 formed in the heel 10. By the rotation of this sleeve, it is therefore always possible to bring the pivot 9 into a position such that the nut is tightened between them. jaws 2 and 4 a little forward that the axis of the pivot 7 reaches the plane determined by the axes of the pivots 5 and 9, during the movement of the lever 6 in the direction of the arrow Y. The pivot 7 has been shown in Figure 3 in a position slightly beyond the question plan.
As can be seen, the spring 5, instead of acting directly on the projection 16 of the lever 6, acts on an arm 31 pivoting at 32 relative to the projection 16. In addition to the position shown in solid lines, this arm can occupy a position such as that shown in phantom for which the spring 15 is relaxed. It is brought into this position when the key is left unused for a long time.
A similar arm can obviously be used in the embodiment shown in Figure 1. In the embodiment shown in Figure 4, the heel 10 is moved axially along the guide 3 by rotation of a nut. 33, while in the embodiment shown in Figure 5, the movement of the heel 10 along the guide 3 is effected by the rotation of a screw 34 immobilized axially by a collar 35 and by a nut 36 arranged on either side of a nose 37 immobilized with respect to the guide 3.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 6, the teeth 11 of the heel 10 is kept in engagement with the teeth 12 of the guide 3 by a sleeve 38 which can slide along the guide 3 and which embraces the latter at the same time and the heel 10. This sleeve acts by wedging a ramp 39 of the heel by means of
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
a stop 40. This ramp could be provided on the sleeve and the stop which cooperates with it on the heel.
It is obvious that the invention is not exclusively limited to the embodiments shown and that many modifications can be made in the form, the arrangement and the constitution of some of the elements involved in its realization, to provided that these modifications are not in contradiction with the object of each of the following claims.
