PROCESS. FOR .PREPARATION OF A .DERIVE .OF .4-AMINO-2-OXYBENZOIC ACID @
The sodium and calcium salts of 4-amino-2-oxybenzoic acid have already been prepared to obtain water-soluble products; but these salts have the serious drawback of providing unstable alkaline solutions which, by heating or even by simple prolonged exposure to ordinary temperature, decompose, giving rise to very toxic products.

The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a 4-amino-2-oxybenzoic acid derivative, characterized in that an alkylamine is reacted with 4-amino-2-oxybenzoic acid. (the alkyl being a simple alkyl or an oxalkyl), for example diethylamine or mono-ethanolamine.

New products are thus obtained, namely diethylamine of 4-amino-2-oxybenzoic acid in the first case, or mono-ethanolamine of this same acid, in the second case =
4-Amino-2-oxybenzoic acid diethylamine is stable; it is soluble in water and in the usual organic solvents. It is used for therapeutic purposeso
4-Amino-2-oxybenzoic acid mono-ethanolamine is very soluble in water, soluble in alcohol, and insoluble in benzene and ether. It is also used for therapeutic purposes.

These two new products have the great advantage over the sodium or calcium salt known hitherto, that their aqueous solutions have a much greater penetrating power for the tissues.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   Example 1:
2 parts of 4-amino-2-oxybenzoic acid and 1 1/2 part of diethylamine are thoroughly mixed; when heated, the reaction immediately occurs. When this has diminished in intensity, the reaction mixture is separated from the excess diethylamine by exposure to air. The new compound is very soluble in water; it can be crystallized in alcohol.

   Example 2
2 parts of barium 4-amino-2-oxybenzoate are dissolved in 12 parts of water and reacted with a solution of 1 part of diethylamine sulfate in 4 parts of water. The barium sulphate which has precipitated is filtered off and the filtered solution is diluted into 20 parts, which makes it possible to obtain 4-amino-2-oxybenzoic acid diethylamine in approximately 10% solution.

   Example 3
5 parts of 4-amino-2-oxybenzoic acid are dissolved in 3 parts of 96% alcohol and 9 parts of a 33% alcoholic solution of diethylamine are added thereto. The reaction product is concentrated in vacuo at the lowest temperature possible to crystallize it.

The new compound can be isolated by crystallization from alcohol.

   Example 4
2 parts of 4-amino-2-oxybenzoic acid and one part of aminoethanol are intimately mixed; the reaction starts immediately by heating. When the reaction has subsided, the reaction mixture is separated from the excess aminoethanol by washing with ether. The new compound is easily soluble in water.

   Example 5
1 part of aminoethanol is diluted in 4 parts of 96% alcohol and the solution is exactly neutralized by adding finely powdered 4-amino-2-oxybenzoic acid, which requires about 2.5 parts of this acid. The reaction mixture is heated for a short time until complete dissolution and then crystallized.

   Example 6
2 parts of barium 4-amino-2-oxybenzoate are dissolved in 10 parts of water and reacted with a solution consisting of one part of aminoethanol sulfate and 4 parts of water; to the filtered solution which is separated from the precipitated barium sulfate, an equal volume of 96% alcohol is added and the solution is concentrated to crystallization, by evaporation in vacuo at the lowest possible temperature.
