CHALUMEAU.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

TORCH.
Torches are now widely used for welding and cutting metals because of the many advantages their use provides. The torches all have a mixing chamber into which the oxidizing and fuel gases are fed. Certain existing devices, without an adjustment needle, are designed to be supplied only under high pressure; type of device cannot operate when the fuel gas pressure falls below a given value; such devices cannot be used with low pressure acetylene generators such as those found in many medium sized workshops.
There is another type of apparatus which works as well as at high pressure and which has a flow rate adjustment needle. The first devices have a limited field of application, the second are difficult to handle since the needle is liable to become eccentric and thereby cause the gradual enlargement of the orifice of the needle. 'injector, resulting in excess oxygen and poor welds.
The object of the present invention is the realization of a torch which can be indistinctly supplied with gas at high or low pressure.
@
For this purpose, according to the present invention, in the body of the torch is housed a removable central element which leads into an injector placed in a duct to form there = an internal chamber placed in communication with an external chamber and powered by a combustible gas,
A particular feature is that the central element is formed by a tube open at both ends and carrying a circular collar abutting on a shoulder of the body so that, housed in the cavity of. In the body, the lower end of the tube only reaches the level of the inlet for the combustion gas.
According to another feature, the injector resting on the central tube is a part, removable, hollow; comprising several cylindrical parts of different diameters, and housed in a guide duct itself
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
placed in a tubing integral with the body. In addition, a cylindrical part of the injector has an external diameter smaller than the internal diameter of the guide duct housing it, which leaves an internal chamber which is, through orifices provided at the height of the base. of said part, in communication with the external chamber located between said guide duct and the tubing and supplied with the combustible gas via a duct provided with an adjustment valve.
Finally, in the guide duct, the internal chamber is limited by a partition provided with a central hole for the passage of gases coming from the internal chamber and from the injector.
The invention also relates to the particular conformation of the nozzle which comprises, along the path of the gases, a converging part terminated by a cylindrical part.
Other features may appear in the following description of an embodiment of the invention, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a partial view, in longitudinal axial section, through a torch according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a spout.
As can be seen in FIG. 1, the body 2 of the torch is provided with two threaded orifices into which the tubes 3 and 4 are screwed, supplying the oxidizing and fuel gases. The oxidizing gas then passes through the conduits 5 and 5 '; the latter can be more or less closed by the needle 6a of the valve partially shown at 6. A similar valve 7 is used by its needle 7a to regulate the flow of fuel supplied by 4 and passing through the conduit 7 '. The conduit 5 'leads the oxidant into the cavity 8 made in the body. This cavity is formed by the hollow tube 9 provided with a circular collar 10 resting on the circular shoulder 2 'of the body 2.
The oxidizing gas passes through the tube 9 on the upper end of which the injector 11 which is housed in the guide duct 12 rests; this injector comprises three cylindrical bearing surfaces 11a, 11b, IIc and a conical bearing 11d. The seat lla serves as a stop and the seat llb allows the centering of the injector in the guide duct 12. The third seat 11c has an outside diameter smaller than the inside diameter of the t-gut tube - by 12 so that between said conduit and the injector is formed an internal chamber 13. The conduit 12 is placed in the tubing 14 which screws onto the body 2. Between the tubing 14 and the conduit 12 is located the. external peripheral chamber 15 at the base of which opens the conduit 7 'for supplying the fuel.
At its upper part, the outer chamber 15 is placed in communication with the inner chamber 13 via the radial holes 12a formed to end at the base of the chamber 13. The guide duct 12 has an outer collar 12b against which it rests. the sealing ring 16 compressed by the nozzle 17 wedged by the tightening nut 17 '. At the end of the guide pipe 12, screws the nozzle holder tube 18 partially shown. As seen in the figure, the guide duct 12 has a conical surface
12c at the top of which is the orifice for the passage of the oxidizing gases supplied by the nozzle 11g and fuel sucked into the internal chamber 13.
A characteristic of the guide duct 12 is that the conical surface
12c is followed by a cyoindrical portion 12d which is followed by a flared nozzle 12g until it reaches at its exit the internal diameter of the nozzle holder tube 18 onto which the nozzle shown in FIG. 2 is screwed. This nozzle has a converging part 19 terminated by the small cylindrical duct 20.
According to a particular feature of the assembly, the guide duct and the nozzle holder tube are easily oriented during work or during interruptions.
The torch according to the invention can be used indifferently with any combustible gas such as propane, butane, etc., to carry out
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
brazing on iron, cast iron or brass. In the case where town gas is used with compressed air, the nozzle is obviously of suitable dimensions; a tei torch is used by jewelers, plumbers, manufacturers and repairers of accumulators.
Finally, it is possible to use the torch to weld parts whose thickness ranges from 5/10 of a millimeter to 30 millimeters; it is clear that the injector and the nozzle must be adapted to the intended work.
