TOUR.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
La Fig. 1 représente en- élévation le même tour muni d'une piè- ce rotative pour le travail de parachèvement;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

TOWER.
The invention relates to a lathe of which the leveling carriage is carried by a bench carriage and carries a rotating part on which an intermediate carriage is guided so as to be able to be controlled.
In known machines of this type, the intermediate carriage forms the upper pusher which serves to receive the adjustable tool.
For the execution of the finishing work, a copy support is used, preferably placed on a rear leveling carriage, so as to be able to use the leveling carriage prior to the execution of operations which cannot be carried out at using the copy medium.
Copy control shafts or templates are attached to the bed for full length copying and to the side of the bed carriage for planing copy, and they are scanned by a contactor mounted on the copy carriage.
For small turns, this arrangement is very advantageous.
In lathes with large center spacing and turning lengths, difficulties arise because the control shaft supports or jigs become very large and inconvenient, and cause trouble for normal lathe work. It is therefore desirable to construct the lathe in such a way that it can easily be changed from normal turning work to finishing work or vice versa.
To solve this problem, in accordance with the invention, on the lathe whose leveling carriage carries a rotating part, two interchangeable rotating parts of this type are placed, which differ as follows: the intermediate carriage of one of the rotating parts carries a tool adjustable and therefore forms an upper support for ordinary turning work. However, the intermediate carriage of the other rotating part serves to guide a copy carriage controlled by hydraulic means at the

by means of a contactor mounted on it and guided on a jig fixed to the rotating part, and carrying the tool on its side. The exchange of the two rotating parts for each other can be carried out in a very short time.
The rotating part of which the intermediate carriage, which for its part can move on it, carries the copy carriage, now takes, according to another characteristic of the invention, the form of an upper support which is particularly practical for large turns, which can be used as desired both for finishing work and for ordinary lathe work. For this purpose, is mounted in the rotating part a conductive rod of the intermediate carriage connected by a disengageable control link to the lathe advancement mechanism. The guide rod is therefore able during the completion, both to print the copy support the conductive advance and also to allow the tapping of screws when the copy carriage is blocked.
Several preferred embodiments of the invention are shown in the drawing.
Fig. 1 shows in elevation the same lathe provided with a rotating part for the finishing work;
Fig. 3 is a plan view corresponding to FIG. 2; Fig. 4 is a view corresponding to FIG. 3 when the rotating part is arranged obliquely; Fig. 5 shows the plan view of the lathe provided with the finishing support which, however, in this case carries a drill bit as a tool; and Fig. 6 is a plan view corresponding to Fig. 3 of a lathe, the copy support of which is provided with a transverse carriage thus also allowing ordinary lathe work.
On the bench 10 of the lathe can move in an ordinary manner a bench carriage 11 which can be controlled from the advancement mechanism by a draw rod which is not otherwise shown. The bench carriage for its part carries a slide 12 arranged transversely with respect to the bench guide and on which is guided a leveling carriage 13. The latter can also be controlled by the advancement mechanism through the intermediary of the traction rod and a gear arranged on the closure box 14 as well as by means of a rod 15 mounted in the carriage of the bench 11 and acting on a nut fixed to the leveling carriage 13. On the latter is mounted a rotating part 16 able to rotate around a vertical axis forming on its side a horizontal slide
17 and carrying a rod 18 serving as a conductor, mounted parallel to the slide. This conductive rod can be connected by a mechanism not otherwise shown and by coupling to the advance mechanism of the machine. On the slide 17 of the rotating part 16 moves an intermediate carriage 19 provided on its side with a horizontal slide 21 perpendicular to the slide 17 and carrying an upper pusher receiving the tool. In the intermediate carriage 19 is mounted an adjusting rod 22 provided with a crank and entering a nut fixed to the upper carriage 21.
The five mutually supporting elements 14, 13, 16, 19 and 21 can be fixed to each other as long as they do not undergo any relative displacement during walking.
Using the support described, any turning work can be carried out. If one wants to carry out a finishing work, one detaches the rotating part 16 from the leveling carriage 13 and in its place is applied, on the leveling carriage 13, a rotating part 116 which does not differ from the leveling carriage.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
rotating part 16 than by its greater length ,, To better support it in relation to the carriage of the bench 11, the latter can be provided with lower bridges of easily removable lateral supports 23 and on the surface of which the projecting ends of the bench rest. the rotating part 116. Further, the rotating part 116 carries a copy medium. For this purpose, the intermediate carriage 119 is provided with a slide inclined with respect to the slide 17 and serving as a guide for the copy carriage 24.
This comprises in known manner a hydraulic cylinder, a piston slide and a contactor acting on this slide and moving along the template 25 under the action of a spring.
The piston arranged in the cylinder is fixed by its rod to a projection of the intermediate carriage 119. The copy carriage 24 carries a slide guide 26 disposed perpendicular to the slide guide 17 and carrying the tool 27 'which can move on him. The tool holder 27 can be moved by means of a rod 28 for positioning the tool. The template 25 is fixed to the rotating part 116. In the case of copy work, the rod 18 mounted in the rotating part, connected to the advancement mechanism and acting on its side on a nut fixed to the intermediate carriage 119 is actuated. Therefore, the carriage 119 moves along the slide track 17 and guides the contactor on the jig 25.
The contactor thus acts by means of the piston drawer on the hydraulic control which, in turn, moves the carriage by. copies 24 onto the intermediate carriage and thereby guides the tool on a path which corresponds to the shape of the jig, 25. During this time, the rotating part 116, the leveling carriage 13 and the bench carriage 11 remain fixed. to each other.
The exchange of rotating parts can be avoided if the rotating part shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and the finishing support as shown in FIG. 6. Here, a transverse carriage is arranged on the copy carriage 24. For this purpose, the copy carriage 24 carries a slide guide arranged parallel to the slide 17 and carrying a carriage 30 which can be adjusted by a crank 29. This carriage carries a slide arranged transversely with respect to the slide 17 and receiving the tool 31. The latter can be moved by a crank 32. In addition, there are devices for wedging the copy carriage 24 on the carriage. intermediate 119. In this case, ordinary turning work can be carried out using the guide rod 18 and the cranks 29 and 32.
Also in this case, the rotating part 116, the leveling carriage 13 and the carriage of the bench 11 are fixed to each other.
As shown in Fig. 4, the rotating part can be arranged obliquely. It is also possible, as shown in FIG. 5, Attach a drill bit to the copy carriage tool to copy interior shapes which can be executed forward or backward from the axis of the rod depending on the shape of the work.
Turning and tapping work can therefore be carried out both in the longitudinal direction and in the leveling direction or in any intermediate positions.
