En l'occurrence on opère com- me suit :

PROCESS FOR PREVENTING THE COLORING MATERIALS DRAINING ON THE EFFECTS OF WHITE IN WOOL AND SEMI-WOOL CLOTHES DURING THREADING AND WASHING.

During the fulling and washing of woolen or semi-woolen fabrics with colored threads, the various polychrome effects are attacked when alkalis are used, for example solutions of sodium carbonate, ammonia or even soaps. , and dye the effects white.

This phenomenon is referred to as "pouring of coloring materials". The articles thereby acquire a cloudy and ugly appearance, because the white effects do not remain pure, but instead become yellowed or colored.

In order to achieve a better result, attempts have already been made to carry out the crushing or washing process in a neutral medium, namely to operate only with water by adding fat dissolvents. or synthetic compounds combined. This actually resulted in an improvement in the whiteness effect, but still the fabrics were more often harsh and stunted in appearance because the hair fat was extracted from the woolly hair. In addition, there remained an unpleasant odor because, due to the absence of the alkali treatment, the feed material from the spinning was not removed.

The washing after crushing was carried out with the addition of alkali already mentioned or with the addition of fat solvents or alternatively with both additives together. The washing treatment lasted about 2 to 3 hours on average at a temperature of about 40 ° C.

It has now been found that the fabrics lend themselves very well to alkaline crushing and washing (2 Bé) and that the articles therefore are pure and odorless, and this although the effects remain pure white and are not not soiled by the flow of coloring matter.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

This result is obtained in accordance with the invention when the fulling is carried out on the fulling cylinder with a cold aqueous solution of sodium carbonate at approximately 2 Bé with the addition of approximately 2%, calculated with reference to the weight of the item, of a mixture of sodium di-isobutylnaphthalenesulphonate or sodium di-isopropylnaphthalenesulphonate and alkylbenzene sulphonates and hydrogenated chlorinated hydrocarbon compounds or terpene hydrocarbons such as oil turpentine (Pinoil) or dipentene.

Due to its strongly colloidal properties the additive does not always prevent the pouring of the unstable or unbound coloring matter, which is entrained with the saponifying sodium carbonate, but however the pouring on the white effects is completely prevented. .

After a fulling with the additional materials mentioned above, which for combed and combed-carded or light carded wool articles lasts 5 to 10 minutes, with heavy carded wool articles, for example the pile lodier or fleece or the like, for up to one hour, subsequent cold washing is carried out with the addition of 1-2 Bé sodium carbonate solution and the remaining additional products mentioned above.

In this case, we operate as follows:
After wetting on the hank washing machine with cold water and subsequent operation of the machine for about a quarter of an hour until the separate soil to which the coloring matter adheres is removed, the article is treated in the machine with cold water under high pressure for about 5 minutes then, after closing the water inlet, the article is cold worked with a reduced addition of additional colloidal agents for about a quarter hour, leaving the washing machine running until the creamy foam has risen, to then complete the washing process by ringing in cold water under high pressure, the end of the operation being recognized by the clarity of the runoff rinsing water.

A check with a solution of phenolphthalein is not essential, but it is indicated for the purpose of a check. trole.

The effects of the article thus treated are not soiled by a flow of the dyes, but remain pure white. Likewise, the article is absolutely clean and does not retain any odor.

In addition to the advantages listed, an advantage of the process according to the invention consists in that only half of the washing time which was previously essential is required, which makes it possible to achieve a significant saving in time.
