Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 chemin.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

   <Desc / Clms Page number 1>

   The invention relates to a machine for making bags filled from a tube of heat-sealing material.

   Known machines of this type are so-called two-lane machines, constructed to simultaneously produce bags from two widths of material. They have the following disadvantages
1 / For each replacement of the material supply spool, the entire machine must be stopped.

   2 / A single product can be introduced on both "tracks" at the same time.

   3 / The construction is heavy, the two tracks being connected by a joist, so that great forces of inertia appear.

   4 / In the event of faults, both channels must be stopped immediately.

   5 / The machine has a relatively large space in the direction of the width and in that of the depth, so that it is impossible to have a yarn of such machines in a reduced space.

   The machine according to the invention is constructed as a block with a guiding and filling apparatus for a single tube and the main control shaft of the machine is transverse to the front of the machine. This last measure makes it possible to keep the width of the machine small and to fit the motor and the actuating unit into the machine itself.

   In one embodiment of the invention, the control motor is placed at the rear of the machine and the control of the machine is ensured by a continuous gearbox.

   The support for the packaging material is preferably located at the front of the machine.

   All these measures provide the following advantages:
1 / If several machines are placed side by side, each machine can be stopped individually to renew the spreading material.

   2 / A different article can be packed on each machine in bags of corresponding dimensions and with a corresponding speed.

   3 / The single-track construction considerably reduces the inertia forces, so that the speed can be considerably increased, 4 / In the event of a fault, only one machine is put in use and, in most cases, it can be repaired more quickly.

   5 / The machine can be easily adapted to other forms of packaging and can easily be provided with another distribution system, while the speed is also easily adjustable.

   6 / In large establishments, the machines can be arranged side by side in lines, while in small companies, this way of packaging can also be adopted by mounting a single machine, the purchase price of which is much lower than that of a two-way machine.

   The invention also relates to other improvements of the aforementioned unitary machine, namely to improvements of the device intended to heat-seal the longitudinal seam of the manufactured bags, of the device intended to transport the material from which the bags are made. in the machine and, in this connection, of the device intended to center this material, that is to say of the device intended to ensure that the distance by which the material periodically moves in the machine remains exactly constant,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 This is especially important when the material for producing the bags has been preprinted, so that the printed materials must be in exactly the same place on each bag.

   With regard to the welding of the longitudinal seam of the bags formed in a unitary machine according to the invention, the following must be observed:
In a known machine, the superimposed edges of the longitudinal joint of a tube pass between a support and a heated wheel In such a device, the contact between the wheel and the packaging material is very short and the welding is sometimes defective. .

   The present invention provides a device which provides good welding when using various heat-sealing materials and this device is easily adjustable with respect to the applied welding pressure.

   The present device is characterized by a pressure member capable of long reciprocating movement, member which can be brought to cooperate with a support intended for the tube, at the place where the edges of the longitudinal seal overlap, a spring member being provided for exert pressure on the pressure organ.

   When welding the packaging material, it is important that it is heated to the correct temperature and is subjected to the correct pressure per unit surface area. It is also desirable that this pressure can be easily adapted to different packaging materials to be used.

   In known machines, the welding pressure acts continuously on the actuation mechanism of the welding device. This causes wear and tear. These deteriorations are prevented by the invention which provides the means of easily adjusting the welding pressure.

   According to the invention, the actuating mechanism of the welding device ceases to be subjected to pressure during the downward stroke of this device.

   In a practical embodiment of the invention, rollers are provided which are guided on wedges having parallel parts and which regulate the welding members.

    The welding pressure is preferably adjustable, for example, by an adjusting bolt which acts on a spring which can be put under tension.

   The invention further relates to an apparatus for centering the material in bags to be formed from a tube of heat-sealing material, using a closing and pulling apparatus, for the tube.

   In an apparatus of a known type, the parts of the tube intended to form the bags are centered so that the packaging material is pulled each time a little further than the severing point and it is then withdrawn backwards. by a device until a centering surface or mark comes in front of an electric eye.

   This centering is necessary to ensure that the printed part of the material is always placed in the correct place of the finished bag.

   In the known devices, this centering takes a long time and is not particularly precise, because the path between the place of centering (the eye) and the place of sectioning of the bags is relatively long and because the material can stretch considerably on this

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 path. This stretching can affect the result of the centering operation.

   In an apparatus such as that presented by the invention, the closing and pulling device is actuated so that the tube is each time pulled forward until a centering zone or mark appears. put in front of an electric eye close to the place of disconnection and, at this moment, the closure and traction members release the packaging material in such a way that subsequent traction is impossible. According to the invention, the centering operation is therefore as direct and, consequently, as precise as possible.

   An embodiment of the invention, shown in the drawings, will now be described.

   Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a machine according to the invention.

   Figure 2 is a front view.

   Figure 3 is a rear view.

   Figure 4 shows in detail the device for supporting the reels of packaging material.

   Figure 5 shows in detail an important part of the centering device.

   Figure 6 is a section taken on line VI-VI of Figure 5.

   Figure 7 is a section taken along line VII-VII of Figure 5.

   Figures 8, 9, 10 schematically show the centering, closing and pulling devices in a number of positions.

   FIG. 11 is a detail in partial section of the closing and pulling device.

   Figures 12 and 13 show details.

   Figure 14 shows the welding device in detail.

   Figures 15-10 are details of the welding device.

   The machine frame is generally indicated by 1; it may consist of several parts.

   Coils 4 and 5 are carried by appliques 2 and 3 (Figures 1 and 4), these coils are intended for the material 6 of which the bags are to be made.

   The material can be pulled in spurts from the two spools, for example, to form doubtful bags or a spool can serve as a spare spool.

   When the material is in the process of being drawn from the reels, it is guided along rollers 7, 8 of a braking device 9, 10 which is known per se and on other rollers 11, 12, 13. The material is then advanced towards a curved plate 14 intended to bend the material, supplied in a form. me of a pre-printed film, around a tube 122 (Figure 14). The plate 14 is adjustable by a device 15 (Figure 4).

  Tube 122 cooperates with a device for welding the longitudinal seam of the tube of heat-sealing material, which has been formed around tube 122.

   The device will be described below with reference to Figures 14 to 18.

   The tube 16 of material (Figures 8, 9, 10) is periodically pulled down by jaws 17, 18 (Figures 1, 8, 9, 10) which are actuated.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 born by a special mechanism intended to center the position of the material tube before making bags.

   This centering mechanism will be described with reference to Figures 8 to 13.

   The machine is operated by an electric motor 19 which controls the main shaft 21 through a belt 20 and a special transmission.

   The lever 22 actuates a closing and traction unit A (Figure 1) by a pivot 23, a connecting rod 24, a yoke 25 and rods 26. The lever 22 is actuated by means of a pivot 27, d 'a block 28 and a roller 29 by a grooved disc 30 located on the main shaft 21.

  This main shaft 21 is perpendicular to the front of the machine. The block 28 is guided in a rectilinear manner by guides 31 and 32 which are connected by bolts 33 inside the frame 1 in which the main shaft 21 is also journaled. The length of the stroke of the closing and pulling mechanism A can be adjusted using the adjusting screw 24 (figure 13).

   This adjustment takes place as follows: the lever 22 (FIG. 2) has a slot in which the sliding block 35 can move and can pivot around the spindle 36, the other end of which can slide in a support 37; By means of the adjusting screw 34, the spindle 36 can be moved and locked by the nut 38. The support 37 is mounted on the frame 1 by bolts. The main shaft 21 is operated by means of a transmission and a flywheel 39 on which a friction disc 40 is mounted.

   A cooperating conical disc 41 which at the same time constitutes a pulley, is journaled in a sliding member 42 (FIG. 3). This member 42 is guided by guides 43, 44 which are connected to brackets 45, 46 fixed to the frame 1. The sliding member 42 can be adjusted as follows using the handwheel 47 arranged at the front of the machine: The flywheel 47 is fixed to a shaft 48 carrying a Galle wheel 49. A chain 50 passes from the Galle wheel 49 to the Galle wheel 54 mounted on the shaft 52 journalled in the frame 1 and in the bracket 46. L The other end of the shaft 52 carries a bevel gear 53 meshing with a bevel gear 54 fixed on a threaded rod 55.

   This threaded rod rotates a nut 56 connected to the sliding member 42 by bolts. The threaded rod 55 is journaled in a bracket 46.

   The conical disc 41 is actuated, by means of a trapezoidal belt 20, by the motor 19.

   The support 2, 3 for the reels of material, is only at the front of the machine. The attendant therefore does not have to move around the machine to replace a reel of material, so that a number of machines can be placed in a line, very close to each other, without any inconvenience.

   In addition, the suspension of the material at the front of the machine allows a very stable construction.

   All electrical appliances; Such as contacts, switches 58, indicators 59 and the like are arranged in a box 57, placed on one side of the machine (Figures 2 and 3): This is very convenient, especially for repairs and assembly.

   Now, the welding device will be described with reference to Figures 14 and 18.

   A cam disc 60 is fixed to the main shaft 21. Against this disc rolls a roller 61 which is carried by a pin 62 journalled in an arm 63 (FIG. 1). The arm 63 is journaled, via

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 of a journal 64, in the lower part of the frame 1. The other end of the shaft 64 carries an arm 65, connected to a traction rod 66 by a shaft 67 and a fork 68. The traction rod extends up to the top of the machine and its other end adjusts to slide in a guide nozzle 69 comprising a double spring hook carrying two springs 70 hooked on the other side to the member 71, which member is fixed to the pull rod 66.

   The top of the nozzle 69 forms an eye and is connected to an arm
72 by a pivot 73. The arm 72 is fixed to the shaft 74 which is journaled in a column 75 of the frame 1. In the middle of 7, the shaft 74 is an arm 76 fixed thereto by means of a screw. locking 77. Arm 72 has an extension to which one end of a spring 78 is attached, its other end being hooked to a pin 79 which is attached to column 75.

   The spindle connects the arm 103 to two connecting rods 108, the other ends of which are journaled on the shaft 109. This shaft is carried by a sliding shaft 110; on either side of the shaft 109 are two rollers
111, the device being locked by two locking rings 12. The rollers 111 are in contact with two guide blades 113 connected to the cover 114 in which the sliding shaft 110 is also journaled.

  Thus, the latter can only be moved lengthwise, but cannot rotate.

   One end of the shaft 110 carries a support 115 in which the pressure member 116 is elastically mounted. Two 117 bolts provide stops for the outward movement of the springs. The pressure is adjustable by two bolts 118 which compress the springs 120 via pressure discs 119. The springs are supported on the pressure member 116. Two locking nuts 121 prevent the bolts 118 from moving towards the pressure member. 'back;. As the main shaft rotates, the roller 61 is moved away from that shaft, so that the traction triangle 66 receives an up and down reciprocating motion. At the end of the downstroke of rod 66, pivot 107 lies in line with the centers of rotation of shafts 74 and 109.

   The tension spring 78 causes the roller 61 to always remain in contact with the cam disc 60. Thus, the sliding shaft 110 returns to its initial position, imparting a reciprocating movement to the pressure member 116. Around the tube of filling 112 is the packaging material which is superimposed where it is in contact with the pressure member 16.

   As the pressure member 116 reaches its extreme upright position, it exerts a certain pressure on the packaging material, so that the longitudinal seam is partially welded under the influence of the predetermined temperature of the upper member, which may be obtained using an electric heater 123.

   To ensure uniform pressure contact, the fill tube 122 is provided with a rubber coating. The adjustment of the pressure member is such that when the member is in contact pressure, the heads of the bolts 117 are at a distance of about 1 mm from the member 115, so that the springs 120 determine the pressure exerted on the seal. To prevent the filling tube 122 from being offset, a counter support 125 is provided which, however, may not constantly press on the tube. As the pressure member moves backwards, the counter support 125 should leave the tube 122 free to allow the packaging material to slide easily along the filling tube during the downward movement of the closure and pull mechanism A.

  The support 115 receives a reciprocating movement from a lever system. Two arms 126 press on the roller III. These arms are fixed to the shaft 128 by locking screws 127. This shaft is journaled to rotate in the cover 114. The shaft 128 comprises in its middle an arm 129, one end of which presses on a roller 130 journaled in a lever. bent 132 by means of a pin 131. The bent lever is carried in its middle by a

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 pin 133 journalled in the cover 114. The pin 134 is attached to one of the branches of the elbow lever 132 and carries two connecting rods 135. One of the connecting rods directly surrounds an arm 136 which fits into the sliding shaft 137 with a small diameter. The other connecting rod carries a collar 138 which fits over the shaft 136.

   A nut 139 secures the device tightly to the shaft 137. One end of a tension spring 14.0 is suspended from a third leg of the elbow lever 132 and its other end is hooked into an eye 141 of the cover 114. This The spring attracts the lever 132 against a stop 142 of the cover 114. When the elbow lever is in this position, the fulcrum 134 is in line with the points of rotation 133 and 136. The end of the shaft 137 has the form of a flange in which the fork 144 is fixed by means of the pin 143.

  This latter fork carries the pressure member 125 which is adjustable on the fork 144 by means of two bolts 145. The pressure member 125 surrounds a rubber buffer 146. In the position in which the spring presses the elbow lever on the 'stop, this buffer presses on the packaging material which in turn is pressed onto the fill tube 122. As the carrier 115 moves rearwardly, the bolt heads 117 first come into contact with the carrier. , so that the tension of the springs 120 is released. However, in this phase, the pressure member 116 remains in contact with the filling tube 122.

   As the bracket 115 moves further rearward, the spout of the applique 129 contacts the roller 130 and swings the elbow lever 132 clockwise, against the pressure of the spring. compression 140, so that the shaft 137 and the counter support 125 receive a movement to the right. So the buffer. rubber 146 is removed from the packaging material and hence also from the tube. The effect is now that the pressure member is already applied when the holder 115 is moved to the right and, at the same time, when the spring pressure is exerted on the tube.

  Thus, the tube is not subjected to bending stresses. One end of shaft 74 projects outward from one side of column 75. A small lever 147 is locked at one end of shaft 74. During normal operation, the end of this lever is slightly away from a lever 148 so that the shaft 74 and the lever 147 can move freely, independently of the lever 148. A stop 149 is provided on the column 75. The lever 148 is normally placed in the lower hollow. As the support 115 is lifted and moved into the second port 149 of the lever 148, the support 115 of the counter support 125 can be removed from the tube 122 by hand. Now the packaging material can therefore be freely moved along the tube.

   The cam of the lever 147 is gripped by the top of the lever 148. The shaft 74 therefore rotates in a counterclockwise direction. The guide member 69 is now released from the end of the pull rod 66, against the pressure of the tension springs 70. The pin 73 also moves counterclockwise.

  The roller 61 being pressed against the cam disc 60, the traction rod 66 cannot move upwards.

   We now come to the closing and traction device A, comprising the jaws 17, 18; reference will be made to Figures 1, 3, 11, 12 and 13.

   Forks 80 are arranged on the shafts 26 (Figure 11).

  Two pairs of levers 81 and 82 pivot at 83 and 84. The pivots are carried by the forks 80. These levers are surrounded by protective housings 85 and 86 in which the heated welding and pulling elements or jaws 17 and 18 are arranged. . In the shafts 26 are two wedges 87 and 88 journaled by nozzles 89 and 90. A rod 91 pulls the wedges 87 and 88 downwards, while the compression springs 92 and 93 tend to drive them upwards. During the downward movement, the levers 81 and 82 are spaced below by rollers 94 and 95 and pins 96 and 97. This causes the welding and draw members 17 and 18 to perform a clamping movement.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

   Before wedges 87 and 88 have completed their downward stroke, rollers 94 and 95 may perform an outward movement which decreases to zero speed. As a result, considerable forces can be produced.

   However, the tensile forces exerted on the rod 91 remain low. The protective housing 86 is movably disposed on the lever 81 in the clamping device, for example by means of slots.

   In the face of the protective housing 86, an adjusting bolt 102 abuts a leaf spring 103 which is supported on both sides by cams on the levers 81.

   As a result of the clamping effect of levers 81 and 82, the protective housing 86 retracts, which puts the leaf spring 103 under tension.

   This tension is adjustable by means of the adjustment bolt 102 (figure '11).

   The rod 91 (Fig. 12) is connected to arms 106 by an adjuster 151, a fork 152 and a pin 153. These arms are located on the shaft 154, journalled in a support 155. An arm 156. (fig. 1 and 5) is fixed in the middle of this shaft and carries a roller 157 fixed there by a pin 158. The roller 157 rolls along a roller guide 159 when the welding and tension members 17, 18 move up and down. The support 155 is rigidly connected to a support 160. The support 160 can slide along the main shaft 21 and receives a reciprocating motion from a cam disc 162 which is also connected to the main shaft 21.

   Now, the device for centering the packaging material will be described, mainly with reference to Figures 5 to 10.

   The pre-printed packaging material 16 has at intervals P, zones or centering marks 163, 164 (Fig. 8) which can cooperate with a photocell (an electric eye) 165. The mate - line 16 is pulled down by the closing and pulling device A (fig. 1). This downward movement of device A is obtained by the lever with two arms 22 (FIG. 1).

   If now the device A moves from position I to position II (fig. 8) by a distance P, a certain mark 163 arrives in front of cell 165 which then actuates a relay 166. In the meantime, a certain mark cam 167 has been rotated so that it closes a contact 168 which causes the excitation of a lifting magnet 169. It follows that a pawl 172 is released from a sliding member 173 by rods 170 , 171. This member 173 is connected to the support 160 of a roller 174 and a guide member 158 by two connecting rods 175 and 176.

   The roller 157 rests against the guide member 158. This roller 157 constitutes part of the closing and traction device A. The roller 157 actuates rods 106, 91, the cone 87 and 88 and the levers 81, 82 , so that the jaws 17 and 18 close and open. Because the pawl 172 no longer locks the sliding member 173, the latter is moved due to the pressure exerted by the roller 157.

  This movement is limited by an adjustable stop 177 (see position III) fig.

  9). The roller 157 is biased by a spring 92 of the closing and pulling device A. As a result, the roller 157 exerts a pressure on the guide member 158 so that the connecting rods 175 and 176 pivot around the points 178 and 179. It follows that the sliding member 173 and the guide member 158 move towards each other and that the distance X increases up to Y (figure 9), whereby, the roller 157 rotates around the point 154 This causes the bar 91 to rise, so that, through the intermediary of the cone 87 and the connecting rods 81, 82, the jaws 17 and 18 are made to open slightly, for example about 1 mm.

   This means that the packaging material is no longer moved, so that the area printed on this material is in the correct place, the material having moved by the distance P.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

   In the meantime. the support 160 of the roller 174 which is urged by a spring 180 against the cam disc 162 carried by the main shaft 21, is moved rearward by this roller 174.

   The guide member 158 follows this movement only partially because this member 158 hits a stop 181.

   Now the distance X has increased to Z (Fig. 10) and the jaws 17, 18 are now fully open (see position IV, Fig. 10). Then the closing and pulling device A was moved a distance Q downwards, Q being larger than P.

   As the guide member 168, due to the stop 181, cannot move further with the support 160, the connecting rods 175 and 176, start to pivot about the points 182 and 183. This causes the pivot member 173 to be. requested against the stop 177, so that the member takes its initial position relative to the support 160.

   If now the closing and pulling device A is again lifted by the cam disc 30 and the lever 22, in its upper part, the cam 167 will again have rotated to such an extent that the support 160, the part sliding 173 and the guide member 158 again take their position I.

   The excitation of the lifting magnet 169 is interrupted by a cam 167 and a contact 168, so that the pawl 172 again engages the sliding member 173 and maintains the latter in a fixed position relative to the support 160.

   As now, the distance Z has been reduced to X due to the cam 162, the roller 157 closes the jaws 17,18.
