Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

   'L'effort continuant son action,la pédale(I) parcourera un cycle en forme d'ove de même que l'axe d'action(2)parcourera le sien en for me circulaire,mais le pivot(4) ayant atteint vers C son point extrême

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   Description de l'appareil

   Supporting documents in support of a patent application filed by Mr. De Brauwer Léopold residing at 223 rue de
Merode in Brussels concerning an "Apparatus amplifying force applied to a bicycle pedal"
The use of the bicycle prompted the search for suitable means to amplify the pressure of the foot on the pedal and many solutions were presented.

   I have designed a device that can be adapted to the bicycle and which fully meets the desired result.

   This device can be applied to a bicycle provided with any gearshift, which still gives higher efficiency.

   This is a lever arm having as its axis of action the end of the arm where the pedal is usually placed; this axis is located at
150m / m from the end of the lever arm above and it is to this end that the pedal is fixed. At the other end of the lever arm which extends over 425 m / m, is fixed by a pivot a second long arbra of 170 m / m, which has as its fulcrum an axis fixed on an extension of the frame at the place where the hub of the rear wheel is placed.

   Here is the movement caused by the action of the pressure of the foot on this system: the foot presses on the pedal placed at A, at this moment it descends towards B and drives the axis of action (2), the extension of 425m / m (3) follows the movement but in the opposite direction, that is to say that its end goes up towards C bringing with it, thanks to the pivot (4) the shaft (5) which is attached to it. Arrived almost horizontally, the assembly is on an almost straight line and we see at this time that the pedal shaft (b) from its axis (8) is doubled in length by the portion the lever arm (3) which goes from the axis of action (2) to the pedal, which has the effect of doubling the pressure,

   having conne point of support the axis of action (2), exerted by the pedal (I).

   'The effort continuing its action, the pedal (I) will go through a cycle in the form of an oval just as the axis of action (2) will go through its own in a circular form, but the pivot (4) having reached towards C its extreme point

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 C re will turn back to reach the limit point D of the stroke accomplishing xx thus a back and forth rocking motion.

   The whole being well balanced and positioned as it should be, gives the use of the bike an ease of action by considerably developing the pressure exerted by the foot on the pedal and if the bike is equipped with a change. speed, there is no hill that cannot be climbed with ease.

   Description of the device
A lever arm (3) is fitted at its end with the pedal (I), at a distance of 150m / m, a reinforcement serves as a housing for the action axis (2) which is the fulcrum. the assembly located at the end of the shaft (6) which rotates by its axle in the gear (8). The lever arm (3) extending rearward by 425m / m is fixed by a pivot (4) to another lever arm (5) its axis of rotation at (7) fixed to a frame extension (9).

   CLAIMS
 EMI2.1
 - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - =
I claim as being my invention the fact of having created a device adaptable to bikes capable of considerably increasing the pressure exerted on the pedal by increasing the length of the ordinary lever arm by an extension which has as axis of action the point or normally the pedal is placed.

  I - the fact of obtaining this result using a lever arm which doubles the ordinary pedal lever arm, which by extending backwards finds a fulcrum and pivoting point at the end a second lever arm which, for its part, is rotatably attached to an extension of the bicycle frame.

  2 - the fact that this assembly realizes the possibility of doubling the pressure exerted / by foot on the pedal precisely in the portion of the circle where this effort is necessary: 3 - the model presented is indicative and not restrictive.
