EMI1.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
R - CH = N - CS - NH - NH - CS - NH2 (2)
EMI3.3
le groupement éther-oxyde étant en position para.
- l'aldéhyde méthylènepyrocatéchique (pipéronal ou héliotropine):
EMI3.4
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
- le vanillal:
EMI4.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Acid electrolytic bath allowing zinc deposits to be obtained with shine and leveling qualities.
The main patent describes a brightening agent consisting of an acid electrolyte containing zinc salts and further comprising a thiosemicarbazone compound of general formula:
EMI1.1
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to which is attached a thiourea group
NH2 - CS - NH2, this thiosemicarbazone compound being able, as a variant, to be replaced by a dithiocarbamic acid condensed with an aldehyde phenol.
The present invention relates more particularly to the constitution of the radical R appearing in the above formula.
It was indicated in the main patent that this radical R was preferably the carbon chain of an aldehyde phenol.
According to the invention, the aldehyde phenol can be replaced by its ether-oxide derivatives.
Generally, the radical R is the residue of an aldehyde-phenol or of an aldehyde-phenol derivative after reaction with thiosemicarbazide and thiourea.
By way of example, this radical can be:
EMI2.1
if the aldehyde-phenol derivative is piperonal (methylene-pyrocatechoic aldehyde).
If the aldehyde-phenol and thiosemicarbazide condensation is first carried out, since the thiourea group is attached to the product obtained, the general formula of the shining agent is:
R - CH = N - NH - CS - NH - NH2 (1)
If the reaction is carried out first by the action of thiourea on the aldehyde-phenol, then by causing the thio-semicarbazide to act on the product obtained, the general formula can be written:
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
R - CH = N - CS - NH - NH - CS - NH2 (2)
The two formulas differ only by the transposition of a group - NH - and the brightening agent is characterized by the presence in the molecule of a radical - CH = N - and of two radicals - CS -. '
The substitution reactions of the NH2 groups can continue and one then ends up with the formulas:
EMI3.1
R - CE = N - NH - CS - Ng - CS - NH - CS - NH - N = CH - R (3) R - Ci = N - C8 - NS - NH - - NH - NH - CS - N = CH - R (4) The aldehydes-phenols can be of the type:
EMI3.2
- monohydroxybenzaldéhydea C6B4 / Cfi $ o zou or diiiydroxybenzaldehydes C6R: - 3 CHO the phenol radicals being in the ortho, meta or para position.
The methyl ether-oxide derivatives of aldehydes-phenols are preferably chosen over aldehydes-phenols.
By way of example, mention may be made of: - anisic aldehyde:
EMI3.3
the ether-oxide group being in the para position.
- methylenepyrocatechic aldehyde (piperonal or heliotropine):
EMI3.4
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
- vanilla:
EMI4.1
A preferred method of preparation of the brightening agent is as follows: Piperonal and thiourea (dissolved in a 1/1 water-ethyl alcohol mixture) are reacted molecule to molecule at 30 ° C. for 4 h. Thiosemicarbazide, also dissolved in a 1/1 water-ethyl alcohol mixture, is added in molecular quantity to the piperonal-thiourea reaction product.
- The reaction carried out at around 30 C continues for 2 h.
- The final condensation product can be used as is or else purified to remove unreacted products.
- To purify the product, it is precipitated by diluting the water-alcohol mixture with 10 times its volume of water.
- The precipitate obtained is filtered, washed, with a small quantity of alcohol. It is then dissolved in a solvent or mixture of solvents (acetone or else alcohol + acetone or else alcohol + dimethylformamide).
Together with the primary brightening compound described above, the Applicant has observed that the effect of gloss and polish of the deposit were increased by the addition to the bath of compounds of the imidazole group and in particular those obtained by the action of an amine. on ethanedial, for example by reaction of a
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
molecule of glyoxal on a molecule of diethylenetriamine, the reaction taking place at a temperature between 40 C and 80 C in aqueous medium, the diethylenetriamine being replaceable by ethylenediamine or diethylenediamine.
The addition of this compound, while increasing the gloss range, reduces the consumption of primary brightener and has such an action that it can by itself produce a gloss effect in the absence of the primary brightener.
