Abstract
PROCESSO PARA PRECIPITAR GIBBSITA DE UM LICOR BAYER, E, APARELHO PARA O MESMO Um licor Bayer é produzido por dissolução de bauxita em soda cáustica quente. O licor é resfriado de modo que ele fica supersaturado, e os cristais de semente de gbbsita são adicionados ao licor (16). Ao mesmo tempo, pelo menos parte do licor é submetida à irradiação ultrassónica (34) intensa de modo a causar cavitação, preferivelmente por passagem de licor e cristais de semente (28) através de um duto (30) de recirculação. O ultrassom aumenta a proporção de finos por ruptura de quaisquer aglomerados de cristal e também por geração de núcleos de cristal, e também remove a incrustação das superfícies do cristal. O processo de precipitação é conseqüentemente mais eficiente. Caso se aplique ultrassom, quando as medidas indicam que ocorrem finos insuficientes no licor, este fato melhora a consistência do processo de precipitação.
