Description

Shock absorber for motor vehicles. This invention relates to a shock absorber for motor vehicles which constitutes an elegant solution to the problem of the elastic suspension of the car since it is both of a very simple construction and of an irreproachable effect and which It is effective in protecting car springs against accidental breakage.

This shock absorber comprises a flexible and corrugated steel blade, arranged in the immediate vicinity of the spring, the bending and oscillations of which must be damped and it is characterized in that the first corrugation of the blade from the point of attachment thereof. This forms a substantially semicircular arc and the corrugations connecting to said arc are progressively flattening towards the free end of the blade.

The appended drawing represents, by way of example, several embodiments of the object of the invention.

Fig. 1 and 2 are a side elevational view and a plan view of the first embodiment; . Fig. 3 and 4 show the second embodiment in the same views; Fig. 5-7 are three other embodiments shown in elevation.

In fig. 1 and 2, 1 designates the spring, the deflections of which are to be damped, and 4 the axle on which this spring is mounted.

Next to the spring and symmetrically with respect to the vertical axis of the axle is arranged a steel blade 2 bent so as to form in its middle part a caliper 3, embracing the axle 4 and whose cross member s' applied against the underside of the shaft, while the branches 5 directed upwards extend beyond the master blade, after which they are curved to first form a substantially semi-circular arc, open upwards, and then on dulations gradually flattening to their ends.

At the same time, the wavy parts of its branches are bent so that their ends come to rest on the leaf. mistress of the axle. It will be appreciated that the multiple corrugations have the effect of significantly increasing the. blade shock absorption ability.

. In their ascending parts, the branches 5 are connected by a bolt 6 allowing both to bring more or less to one another and thus to adjust the pressure with which the ends of the damping blade press on the spring. Finally, an antagonist coil spring 6 'is plugged into the bolt shank to facilitate reopening of the two branches 5, when the bolt is loosened.

The embodiment shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 is specially intended for so-called half-tweezers. The flexible blade is attached below the car spring and by the bolts that hold the car in place.

Immediately behind the fixing lug, the blade is curved to first form a substantially semicircular arc open upwards, then increasingly flattened undulations towards the end of the blade. The part of the blade in the shape of a circular arc is clamped by a sort of tensioning device, comprising two collars 7 and a screw -8.

The embodiment shown in. fig. 5 consists of a flexible blade 2 fixed below the car spring and symmetrically with respect to the vertical axis of the axle. The curvature of this blade is established according to the principle already stated. The free ends of the blade engage with a certain preliminary tension in flanges 9 adapted to the main blade of the spring so as to be able to slide axially.

In its adaptation to the semi-pincer springs, the flexible leaf, instead of pressing against the main leaf of the spring, could also act on the axle with which this spring is combined. - - - Fig. 6 and 7 show examples of this arrangement. In both cases, the conformation of the flexible blades is more or less identical to that of the embodiment shown in figs. 3 and 4.

In fig. 6, the free end of the flexible blade comes to bu ter against an interchangeable nipple 10 fixed to the underside of the axle. In fig. 7, this end rests on a bent finger 13 secured by a collar 12 of the rear axle tube 14.

All the embodiments thus described perfectly fulfill their role of shock absorbers for car springs. Their mounting, even to existing cars, can be done without difficulty. In addition, they fit all car models.
