Description

Process for the preparation of a detoxified agaric acid preparation. Agaricic acid, the carrier of the pharmacological effects of the larch sponge, has proven to be a valuable remedy. Their therapeutic use is opposed to the fact that sometimes extremely undesirable side effects of a hemolytic nature occur.

It has now been found that the properties of agaricic acid which are threatening to the body are canceled out if it is combined with theophylline and caffeine. In extensive experiments it was found that such combinations only show the beneficial effects of agaric acid without its harmful side effects.

The new products continue to gain particular importance because they have proven to be agents in the treatment of asthma which make them appear far superior to other agents previously used in this area of indication in terms of reliability, effectiveness and tolerability.

Example: 8.86 grams of agaric acid, 7.92 grams of theophylline and 4.32 grams of caffeine are dissolved together in boiling alcohol, whereupon the solution is dried to dryness in a vacuum. is evaporated. The product obtained is a colorless substance that begins to melt at 1030 , is almost insoluble in cold water, but dissolves easily in hot water. At around 201, part of the substance dissolves in around 25 parts of 90% alcohol. The solubility in ether and in chloroform is low.
