La fig. 1 en montre schématiquement un premier exemple; La fi-. 2, montre en perspective, lecy- lindre porte-cliché de Fappareil représenté à la fig. 1; La fig. 2A montre, en perspective età une échelle beaucoup plus grande, un détail du porte-cliché, avec une raclette dont il est muni;

A printing method for coating at least certain regions of a sheet of paper with copying ink and apparatus for carrying out this method. The present invention relates to a printing method for coating at least certain regions of a sheet of paper with a copying ink, in order to be able to use these copying regions for the establishment. of a duplicate., and -à an apparatus for the implementation of this process, the latter being characterized by the fact that the printing is carried out by intaglio printing,
with a raster plate having a series of parallel grooves directed in a certain direction and intersecting with a series of parallel grooves directed in another direction, these two series of parallel grooves determining protrusions which are flush with the surface of the plate.
The apparatus for the implementation of this method comprises, according to the invention, a raster cliché having a series of parallel grooves in a certain direction and intersecting with a series of parallel grooves directed in another direction, these two series of parallel grooves determining projections which are flush with the surface of the cliché.
The appended drawing represents, by by way of example, some embodiments of this apparatus to to print.
Fig. 1 shows schematically a first example; The fi-. 2, shows in perspective, the cy- cliché holder of the apparatus shown in in FIG. 1; Fig. 2A shows, in perspective and on a much larger scale, a detail of the plate holder, with a squeegee with which it is fitted;
Fig. 3 shows, schematically, a continuous printing apparatus giving copying regions on only one side of the paper, and La, fig. 4 shows an apparatus similar to that shown iù, FIG. 3, but set to produce co-piant regions on both sides of the paper.
The apparatus to to print represented in in fig. 1 can be set, with the exception of its click-holder cylinder, in any suitable customary manner. It behaves, as usual , devices for conveying the paper to its place of printing, namely a paper table 1 on which are piled sheets ( the paper printed on one side and intended to to be coated on the back, by determined regions, with copying ink, preferably carbon, a margin table 2, arranged to bring said sheets of paper to the contact of cy- margin liner 3, the latter being, at, in turn, disposed to drive the sheets of paper,
during operation of the apparatus, so as to lead them at least as far as the generator of contact between the margin cylinder 3 and the click-holder cylinder 4 which coo father with ink transport members consisting of a tank 5 containing the copying ink, in an inking cylinder 6 drawing said ink from the tank, in a cylinder equalizer 7, which is tangent to the previous one and which ensures a good distribution of the copying ink on the cylinder 6, in an im- feeder 8, which is in contact at both with the inking cylinder 6 and the clich6 cylinder 6 4 and which impregnates this ink with last cylinder.
9 and 10 designate drive rollers over which an endless chain runs It arranged to receive the sheets of paper provided with copying regions and the transport to the outlet -of the apparatus where they are deposited- placed on a receiving table 19- The apparatus according to fig. 1 is advantageously organized so that the cliché cylinder 4 as well as the components taking part directly in the transport of ink to this cy - </ B> the liner, and consequently the ink itself, are at a temperature greater than than that of the margin cylinder 3,
which is achieved by heating means for heating the copying ink to from the tank 5, at least up to the generator of tangency of the margin cylinders 4 and plate holder 3.
To this end, the tank 5 is provided with a double wall which allows the desired heating, by circulation of a hot fluid, for example gas , steam, etc., by installation of an electric heater, or in any other suitable manner, and the cylinders 4, 6 and 8 are hollow, so that an internal circulation of the hot fluid, or any other suitable means, provides the required heating, so that the irpressure takes place, depending on the nature of copying ink of the paper , number of sheets Ù, print, color of sheet, etc., at an appropriate temperature.
To avoid (read, the ink passes through the sheet of paper, cooling means can be provided on the front of the sheet, which can be done easily, for example by making the margin cylinder 3 </ B > hollow, a cooling fluid, for example water, being made to circulate therein.
. The cliché cylinder 4, which plays an important role law , is established as follows: We engrave, as well as in the process of his- liogravure, on a copper plate forming a cliché, and in conformity with the eo- pious regions that we want to obtain on the back: of the sheet, a screened design (fig. # 9A), the threads of the weft preferably being established following two perpendicular directions.
The engraving of the screened drawing therefore determines, on the one hand, prismatic projections, the apex of which is tangent to the working plane of the copper plate forming a cliché, and, on the other hand, (the grooves which are clearly ,, in hollow "in relation to said shot.
The copper plate is then formed along the circumferential surface of a cylinder and fixed by clips, bars or other fixing means on the plate cylinder.
A preferably mobile squeegee 13 is provided, which carries to a place situated in front of the printing generator formed by the cylinders 3 and 4, on the eliché-carrying cylinder, this squeegee, of course, only bearing on the upper faces of the projections of the engraving of the grid pattern (fig. 2A), </ B> and removes ink, before each printing, all the part of the cliché corresponding to the areas of the back of the sheet which must not receive copying regions, to finally leave only in the hollows of the engraving of the raster drawing.
The amount of ink left in these hollows is, of course, determined by the shape and depth of the latter, which, in in turn, depend on the fluidity of the ink, the nature of the paper,! the reproduction process, etc. with regard to their dimensions. They can be determined without difficulty by experience.
The apparatus described is suitable for providing by intaglio printing, and hot , printed sheets bearing, on the back, copying regions in all shapes desired.
To carry out said printing, one chooses, advantageously, suitable copying inks, prepared in such a way that they exhibit a great fluidity at the manufacturing temperature, and a great consistency at. the operating temperature. These physical properties can be achieved by various chemical operations.
However, in order to prevent ink from penetrating into the paper, which is important here, since it concerns in particular printed formulas whose text on the front of the sheet must remain clean, we will use preferably, in a general- way, dyes which are insoluble or sparingly soluble in the excipients, these dyes having, in a way, to be in suspension therein.

<SEP> 3. <SEP> In <SEP> this <SEP> device, <SEP> where <SEP> all <SEP> the <SEP> cylinders <SEP> are <SEP> parallel . <SEP> the paper is unwound from a reel 14 and before reaching the feed rollers 15, on printing at least partly on one or two sides, texts, characters , figures, etc. by any suitable printing process (typography, lithography, gravure, etc.). Then the paper receives the printing of copying regions by the plate cylinder 16 to plate set as shown for the first example, -and which, to < / B> when heated, quenching directly in the inking tank 17,
and is fitted with the 18. squeegee. The contact of the paper on the cliché cylinder is advantageously regulated by a 19 cylinder which can be displaced. , for example substantially perpendicular to the course of the paper.
The strip of paper then passes over a cy- cooler A9, preferably not tan-, -ont to the plate holder cylinder, but as already < / B> said, parallel to him, and mounted so so to capable of being moved in the plane of the axes of the die-holder and cooler cylinders , and perpendicular to the generatrices of said cylinders, this variability providing a more or less rapid cooling of the paper, and also in the same way as the two plate-holder cylinders 16 and cooler 20 can be brought to tangency,
and that the cooling cy- linder 20 can exert a more or less intense pressure on the printing plate cylinder 16, the latter arrangement being preferably adopted, when it is necessary to for printing using certain co-ordinating inks of a special nature, or alternatively certain types of paper. The strip of paper is then cut, after having been driven by the drive wheel 21 and the drive wheel 22, by any device suitable for this. effect and in any desired shape, before, captured by the feed wheels 9-3, it is deposited in sheets on the reception table 24.
We can finally print sheets, thin cards, canvases, card stock, tracing papers. and other fibrous materials derived from paper, suitable to to be impregnated, to both, on the front and back or on both to </ B > at the same time, of texts, characters, figures, shapes, designs, etc., and -of copying regions, in whole or in part, according to any determined- forms. A apparatus established to this effect is represented to in fig. 4.
As for the whole part (this apparatus up to the cooling cylinder 20, it can, for example, be established similarly to that shown in fig . 3. To print copying regions on the other side of the paper web, a second plate cylinder is provided, 25 also established as that of the first example and equipped with an inking tank 26 and a paddle 27. The contact of the paper with the cylinder 25 is regulated by the cylinder 28 which is parallel to the other cylinders and can be moved at will perpendicularly to its generators.
29 designates a blower for cooling the paper printed on both sides, this blower comprising two nozzles placed on either side of the paper. The cooling of the paper is made modifiable by the possibility of varying the interval separating the two nozzles as well as moving them parallel in the direction of the paper lation.
The paper thus printed and cooled passes over the feed wheels and rollers- 30 and 31, on the one hand, and 32 and 33, < / B> other port, after which it is cut by a cutting device 34, gripped by the knurls 35 and deposited in sheets on the receiving table 36.
